In this study, a system to measure continuously the fuel concentration in a steady flow rig on the basis of Rayleigh scattering is presented. The system can be employed to measure both the temporal and the spatial distribution. Also, it is possible to calibrate the system for the measurement of accurate absolute concentration. Firstly, the system was tested at a calibration chamber for the determination of scattering cross section from propane, butane, acetylene, Freon-12 and Genetron 143a. After this, the system was adapted to a steady flow rig to measure the temporal and spatial fuel concentration. The rig is composed of cylinder head, intake manifold, injector, and transparent cylinder which can simulate internal combustion engine. To cope with the problem of Mie scattering interference, a software filter was developed, which is based on the rise time and the time constant of the photomultiplier-amplifier system. The results show that LRS can provide useful informations about concentration field and the software filter is very effective method to remove Mie interference.

Research on High temperature polymer electrolyte fuel cell (HT-PEMFC) has actively been conducted all over the world. Since the HT-PEMFC can be operated at a high temperature of $120-180^{\circ}C$ using phosphoric acid-doped polybenzimidazole (PBI) electrolyte membrane, it has considerable advantages over conventional PEMFC in terms of operating conditions and system efficiency. However, If the thermal distribution is not uniform in the stack unit, degradation due to local reaction and deterioration of lifetime are difficult to prevent. The thin plate separator reduces the volume of the fuel cell stack and improves heat transfer, consequently, enhancing the cooling effect. In this paper, a large area flow field of thin plate separator for HT-PEMFC is designed and sub-stack is fabricated. We have studied stack performance evaluation under various operating conditions and it has been verified that the proposed design can achieve acceptable stack performance at a wide operating range.

For the development of a liquid rocket engine, hot-firing tests of a regeneratively cooled thrust chamber were performed at chamber pressures of approximately 30 and 60 bars. In the paper, pressure fluctuation data, which were obtained from the dynamic pressure transducers installed in propellant manifolds and combustion chamber, were analyzed. Compared to the data at chamber pressure of 60 bar, the results at chamber pressure of 30 bar showed low-frequency oscillations around 150 Hz in the combustion chamber. The low-frequency waves in the combustion chamber were coupled with those in the manifolds. However, the RMS values of the chamber pressure fluctuations at chamber pressure of 30 bar were only 0.8% of the chamber pressures. Thus, it can be inferred that the thrust chamber operates in the stability boundary even at low chamber pressure.

The combustion test results of the sub-scale combustor having dual swirl injector with internal mixing for a liquid rocket engine are described. The sub-scale combustor uses liquid oxygen(LOx) and kerosene as propellants and has an injector head, an ablative material combustor wall and a water cooled nozzle. The injector head has LOx manifold, fuel manifold, fire face plate, one center swirl injector and 18 main swirl injectors of internal mixing. The combustion tests were successfully performed at design and off-design points without any damages on the injectors. Combustion characteristics velocity of 1756m/s was measured at design point. High frequency combustion instability was not observed but low frequency pulsations occurred at off-design conditions.
Study on the mechanism of droplet transport and the droplet eddy diffusivity in the intake manifold of internal conbustion engine with carburetor has been carried out in this paper The theory and experiments were studied and performed respectively, to elucidate the mechanism and to measure typical rates of deposition, on the walls of a straight type intake manifold, of water droplets suspended in a turbulent air streams. Accordingly, the results are that Mechanism of a spray transport to the walls is caused by the fluctuation component of radial velocity. Deposition rate of a spray on the walls is mainly dependent upon air velocity and mean diameter of spray, and Droplet eddy diffusivity in the intake manifold is around $80\sim105cm^2/sec$.

A fuel-cell power system among various alternative power sources has many advantages such as comparatively independable circumstances, high-efficient, and heat-recyclable, thus it is now able to be up to hundreds MWh-scaled through improving feasibility and longevity of it. During the last few decades, numerous research results has been investigated to expand interest in fuel-cell technology. This study presents pressure distribution on the geometrical manifold structures, which are U-type and Z-type, of a planar-type fuel-cell stack by simulated with computational fluid dynamics(CFD). Then, electrical performance of a 200W fuel-cell stack, which is U-type, was diagnosed after pre-conditioning operation. The stack has electrical characteristics ; 22V, 10A, 220W, and current density $200mA/cm^2$.

A control-oriented nonlinear dynamic engine model is developed to represent a spark ignited engine over a wide range of operating conditions. The model includes intake manifold dynamics,. fuel film dynamics, and engine rotational dynamics with transport delays inherent in the four stroke engine cycles. The model is mathematically compact enough to run in real time, and can be used as an embedded model within a control algorithm or an observer. The model is validated with engine-dynamometer experimental data, and can be used in design and development of a powertrain controller.

The purpose of this paper is to study for fire example by fuel leakage in LPG Vehicle. At first example, the car was repaired the fuel line that was connected with pressure hose between fuel regulator and injector in engine. But the service man was not very tighten with regular torque. At a result, the gas leaked on hot parts of engine. It verified the production of fire by engine heat. At second example, when the repair man, after replacement the injector, inserted the injector in a assembling part of it, he didn't the transform condition of fixing part. Therefore, the tearing phenomenon of O ring producted the controlled leakage of fuel by the injector deflection. It found the fact that the fuel leaked with gap of O ring. At third example. the fuel-cut solenoid valve was lined with pressure regulator unit. But the service man didn't throughly certify the leaked work of connected parts after repaired it. As a result, it certified the fire by engine heating leaked liquefied petroleum gas. Therefore it have to minimize the fire production that the driver should do no problem to throughly manage the fuel system.
To cope with the interference of Mie scattering, which is main obstacle of the measuring concentration with Rayleigh scattering, a hardware filter was installed for reducing the number density of particles. Furthermore a software filter was developed, which is based on the rise time and the time constant of the photomultiplier-amplifier system. In addition, background noisy was reduced by adjusting the optical array and applying the pin hall and beam trap. The results show that LRS can provide useful information about concentration field and the software filter is very effective method to remove Mie interference.
The purpose of this paper studies the failure cases including with system of liquefied phase injection in liquified petroleum gas vehicle. The first case, resulting with inspection the injector of LPG, it occasionally certified the injection damage phenomenon that the fuel efficiency(km/l) was decreased to 5% by carbon deposit with injector hole when the driver operates the vehicle. The second case, it certified the interference phenomenon of air flow with carbon deposit in ISA system control for idle speed of engine and throttle body suppling air into engine. As a result, the fuel efficiency was decreased 7%. The third case, the outer air during intake stroke was intermittently flowed in this gasket gap because of weaken adhesion power phenomenon for cylinder block by intake manifold gasket tearing. Consequentially, it certified the decrease for fuel efficiency to 3% by risen the amount of fuel injection as the air inflow quantity. These failure examples reduced the power performance of engine and the fuel efficiency of vehicle. It have to minimize of failure phenomenon preparing through quality management.
