The Correction Factor of Sensitivity in Gamma Camera - Based on Whole Body Bone Scan Image - (감마카메라의 Sensitivity 보정 Factor에 관한 연구 - 전신 뼈 영상을 중심으로 -)

  • Purpose: Generally a whole body bone scan has been known as one of the most frequently executed exams in the nuclear medicine fields. Asan medical center, usually use various gamma camera systems - manufactured by PHILIPS (PRECEDENCE, BRIGHTVIEW), SIEMENS (ECAM, ECAM signature, ECAM plus, SYMBIA T2), GE (INFINIA) - to execute whole body scan. But, as we know, each camera's sensitivity is not same so it is hard to consistent diagnosis of patients. So our purpose is when we execute whole body bone scans, we exclude uncontrollable factors and try to correct controllable factors such as inherent sensitivity of gamma camera. In this study, we're going to measure each gamma camera's sensitivity and study about reasonable correction factors of whole body bone scan to follow up patient's condition using different gamma cameras. Materials and Methods: We used the $^{99m}Tc$ flood phantom, it recommend by IAEA recommendation based on general counts rate of a whole body scan and measured counts rates by the use of various gamma cameras - PRECEDENCE, BRIGHTVIEW, ECAM, ECAM signature, ECAM plus, IFINIA - in Asan medical center nuclear medicine department. For measuring sensitivity, all gamma camera equipped LEHR collimator (Low Energy High Resolution multi parallel Collimator) and the $^{99m}Tc$ gamma spectrum was adjusted around 15% window level, the photo peak was set to 140-kev and acquirded for 60 sec and 120 sec in all gamma cameras. In order to verify whether can apply calculated correction factors to whole body bone scan or not, we actually conducted the whole body bone scan to 27 patients and we compared it analyzed that results. Results: After experimenting using $^{99m}Tc$ flood phantom, sensitivity of ECAM plus was highest and other sensitivity order of all gamma camera is ECAM signature, SYMBIA T2, ECAM, BRIGHTVIEW, IFINIA, PRECEDENCE. And yield sensitivity correction factor show each gamma camera's relative sensitivity ratio by yielded based on ECAM's sensitivity. (ECAM plus 1.07, ECAM signature 1.05, SYMBIA T2 1.03, ECAM 1.00, BRIGHTVIEW 0.90, INFINIA 0.83, PRECEDENCE 0.72) When analyzing the correction factor yielded by $^{99m}Tc$ experiment and another correction factor yielded by whole body bone scan, it shows statistically insignificant value (p<0.05) in whole body bone scan diagnosis. Conclusion: In diagnosing the bone metastasis of patients undergoing cancer, whole body bone scan has been conducted as follow up tests due to its good points (high sensitivity, non invasive, easily conducted). But as a follow up study, it's hard to perform whole body bone scan continuously using same gamma camera. If we use same gamma camera to patients, we have to consider effectiveness of equipment's change by time elapsed. So we expect that applying sensitivity correction factor to patients who tested whole body bone scan regularly will add consistence in diagnosis of patients.

  • 우리나라는 해방 후 어려웠던 경제난국에서 벗어나 산업발전기에 접어들면서 수산물보다는 식탁에서 육류의 섭취가 상대적으로 많이 증가되었다. 그러나 최근에 들어와서는 외식산업의 현저한 발달과 더불어 즉석편리식품이나 육류의 소비가 증가함에 따라 비만, 동맥경화 및 영양의 과잉공급에 따른 각종 성인병이 만연하고 있는 실정이단, 이러한 시점에 수산물이 가지고 있는 건강기능성이나 생리효과가 식품관련 연구자들에 의해 밝혀지면서 생선회가 건강지향성과 기호성이라는 측면에서 두 가지 조건 모두를 만족시키는 식품으로 자리잡아 외식산업의 한 축을 이루어 생선회의 소비는 급증하고 있으나, 자연산 활어는 남획에 따른 자원고갈 및 어장축소 등 여러 가지 이유로 현재 유통되고 있는 생선회의 90% 이상은 양식산 활어이며, 양식 활어의 생산량 또한 1980년대 후반에 비하여 10배 이상 증가되어 있을 뿐만 아니라 가까운 중국이나 일본 등지에서 생선회로 먹기 위하여 많은 량의 활어가 수입되고 있는 실정이다 이렇게 생산된 활어는 활어시장에서 활어의 품질에 관계없이 중량을 기준으로 거래되고 있어 여러 가지 문제를 야기시킬 수 있다. 그러므로, 활어 품질판정 기술의 개발은 우리나라 양식업의 대외경쟁력을 갖추게 할 뿐만 아니라 어민소득을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한 활어의 유통 질서를 갖추기 위해서 양식활어 근육의 품질을 정확하고도 신속하게 판정할 수 있는 기술을 개발하고자 하였다. 그러므로, 육질의 판정을 위한 기초자료로써 사육수조에서 운동여부와 운동횟수에 의한 양식 활어의 품질을 비교 검토하였다. 운동사육구(2회/1일, 0.5m/s)와 비운동사육구의 초기수분함량은 각각 73.44±0.87%, 72.88±0.25%의 함량이였다. 운동사육시간이 길어질수록 운동사육구에서는 수분함량이 운동5일째에는 73.56±0.22%였으며, 운동 20일에는 75.88±0.94%로 초기수분함량보다는 3%정도 증가하였다. 반면, 비운동사육구에서는 큰 변화를 나타내고 있지 않았다(p<0.05). 운동과 비운동시킨 참돔의 지질 함량의 변화는 운동시킨 참돔은 운동으로 인한 에너지 소비로 인하여 함량이 유의적으로 감소했으며(r=-0.35), 비운동사육구에서는 절식으로 인하여 지질함량이 감소하였다(r=-0.38). 파괴강도와 가장 밀접한 영향을 가지는 콜라겐은 운동과 비운동 모두 사육기간동안 큰 변화는 보이지 않았다. 초기의 파괴강도값은 1.45±0.02kg(운동사육구), 1.36±0.18kg(비운동사육구)이였으며 사육기간동안 운동사육구는 파괴강도값이 증가한 반면, 비운동수조에서는 참돔의 파괴강도는 사육기간동안 큰 유의차가 없었다. 각 성분간의 상관도를 살펴보면, 수분함량과 파괴강도는 상관성을 가졌으며, 지질함량과 파괴강도도 같은 경향은 나타내었다. 운동기간동안의 파괴강도와 콜라겐 사이에는 상관성의 거의 없었다. 이는 운동기간에 따른 파괴강도의 증가가 콜라겐의 함량의 증가보다는 지질함량의 감소와 수분함량의 증가와 같은 성분과의 상관성이 크다고 판단된다. 다음으로는, 운동횟수에 의한 영향으로써 운동시간을 1일 6시간으로 설정하여, 운동횟수를 결정하기 위하여 오전, 오후에 각 3시간씩 운동시키는 방법과 오전부터 6시간동안 운동시키는 두 방법을 이용하여 품질을 비교하였다. 각 조건에 따라 운동시킨 참돔의 수분함량을 나타낸 것으로, 2회(오전 3시간, 오후 3시간)에 나누어서 운동시키기 위한 육의 수분함량은 73.37±2.02%를 나타냈으며, 1회(6시간 운동)운동시키기 위한 육은 71.74±1.66%을 나타내었다. 각각의 운동조건에서 양식된 참돔은 사육초기에는 큰 변화가 없었으나, 사육 5일 이후에는 수분함량이 증가하여 15일에는 76.40±0.14, 75.62±0.98%의 수분함량을 2회와 1회 운동시킨 참돔의 육에서 각각 나타났다. 운동횟수에 따른 지질함량은 2회 운동시킨 참돔은 5.83±2.08, 1회 운동시킨 참돔은 6.72±1.84%을 나타났으며, 사육기간이 증가할수록 함량은 감소하였다. 하루 1회운동시킨 참돔은 지질 함량의 감소율이 2회 운동시킨 참돔보다는 작았지만, 1회 운동시킨 참돔과 마찬가지로 운동기간동안 지질은 감소하였다. 운동횟수와 상관없이 운동기간동안 콜라겐의 함량은 큰 증가를 보이지 않았다. 파괴강도값은 운동횟수가 많을수록 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 운동시킨 참돔은 운동횟수에 상관없이 지질 함량이 감소할수록 파괴강도값이 증가하였으며, 운동횟수가 하루 2회인 참돔에서는 지질함량과 파괴강도값이 높은 상관관계를 나타내고 있다(p<0.05, r=0.866(2회/1일). 운동기간과 파괴강도의 값, 운동기간과 수분함량, 운동기간과 지질함량간의 상관성은 운동횟수에 상관없이 높은 상관관계를 나타냈다. 또한, 콜라겐함량은 운동기간과 상관관계 없이 상관성이 낮았다. 그러므로, 본 실험의 목적인 양식산 활어의 품질판정을 하기 위한 요인으로 동일 어종에는 콜라겐보다는 파괴강도, 수분함량 및 지질함량과의 관계를 상관성을 가지므로, 양식 활어의 품질판정 요인으로 선정하였다.

  • 운동여부와 운동횟수 그리고 어체 크기에 대한 양식산 어종의 품질판정을 위한 지표를 검색하기 위하여 효소적 방법 즉 ATP 관련화합물과 양식산 활어의 건강한 상태와 칼슘의 노출, 염도의 감소, 산소의 부족, 궁핍 등과 같은 스트레스를 받은 상태를 판단하는 adenylate energy charge (AEC)를 근육의 품질판정을 위한 지표로써 조사하였다. 운동사육구와 비운동사육구에서의 참돔육에 대한 ATP 관련화합물의 변화는 운동 0일에는 ATP함량은 8.62 μmol/g이었지만 20일차에는 8.59 μmol/g으로 운동기간이 길어짐에 따라 ATP의 함량은 약간의 감소를 보였다. 이는 운동이라는 자극요인으로 인하여 ATP의 소모가 촉진되었을 것으로 판단된다. 또한 운동 0일차의 ADP함량은 0.72 μmo1/g이었지만 20일차에는 0.93μmol/g로 ATP의 소모만큼 약간의 증가를 보이고 있다. 반면, 비운동사육구에서 0일차의 ATP함량은 5.78 μmol/g이었지만 20일차에서는 6.31 μmol/g로 운동사육구와 대조적으로 기간이 길어짐에 따라 ATP함량이 약간의 증가를 보여주고 있다. 생리적으로 동물에 가혹한 환경에 두거나 스트레스를 가하면 adenylate energy charge (AEC)가 영향을 받아 변화게 된다. AEC는 (ATP + ½ ADP)/(ATP + ADP + AMP)의 비율로 정의되는데, AEC의 범위는 0∼1사이로써 0은 ATP 관련화합물이 AMP로 전환된 상태를 말하며, 1은 모든 ATP 관련 화합물이 ATP로 존재하는 것을 의미한다. 그러므로, 이들결합의 상관적인 정도는 개개의 세포에서 에너지의 효용성을 측정하는 것으로 이용되고 있다. AEC 수치는 운동수조에서 0.91∼0.92 건강상태가 좋았지만 비운동수조는 0.87∼0.88로 운동수조에 비해 값이 낮게 나왔다. 운동횟수에 관계없이 운동시킨 어육의 AEC는 0.90∼0.91로 건강한 상태였다. 어체크기에 따른 ATP 관련화합물의 변화는 0.7∼0.9kg의 크기를 가진 참돔에서는 ATP 함량이 7.88 μmole/g, 1.5∼l,7kg의 크기를 가진 참돔에서는 ATP함량이 9.61μmole/g로 많았고 다른 크기에서는 큰 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 그리고 ADP함량은 어체의 크기가 증가할수록 함량은 감소하였다. 그러나, 어체의 크기에 따른 ATP관련화합물의 변화는 거의 없었다. 건강도의 지표인 AEC는 0.89∼0.94로 전체적으로 건강상태로 나타났다. 하루 2회 운동시킨 육에서의 ATP함량은 0일차에 8.75 μmole/g, 10일차에 8.46 μmole/g, 20일차에 8.51μmole/g로 약간의 감소를 보여준다. ADP함량은 일까지는 증가하지만 그 이후에는 큰 변화를 보이지 않는다. 6시간 운동시킨 그룹의 ATP함량은 0일차에 8.63 μmole/g, 5일차에 8.52 μmole/g, 10일차에 8.4μmole/g, 20일차에 8.51 μmole/g로 10일까지는 감소하지만 그 이후에는 큰 변화를 보이지 않는다. ADP함량은 0일차에 0.72 μmole/g, 10일차 0.84 μmole/g, 20일차에 0.83 μmole/g으로 10일차까지는 약간 증가하지만 그 이후에는 큰 변화를 보이지 않았다. 참돔의 근원섬유에 있어서 Ca/sup 2+/이 존재할 때 Mg/sup 2+/-ATPase 활성의 변화는 운동시킨 참돔 근원섬유의 Mg/sup 2+/-ATPase 활성은 0.35μmol Pi/minㆍmg였으며, 비운동구에서 0.34μmol Pi/minㆍmg으로 운동시킨 참돔의 육에서 ATPase 활성이 약간 높은 것으로 나타났다. 운동사육시킨 참돔은 운동기간이 증가할수록 ATPase활성이 증가하여 운동 20일에는 0.42μmo1 Pi/minㆍmg의 함량을 나타내었으나, 비운동사육에서는 큰 차이를 보이지 않고 있다. 근원섬유의 Ca/sup 2+/가 첨가되지 않았을때의 Mg/sup 2+/-ATPase 활성을 나타내었다. 운동시키전에는 각각 0.10μmol Pi/minㆍmg, 0.14μmol Pi/minㆍmg 나타나 비운동구가 운동구에 비하여 Mg/sup 2+/(-Ca/sup 2+/)-ATPase 활성이 높았으며 사육기간동안 활성이 서서히 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다. Ca/sup 2+/-ATPase의 활성 또한 사육기간 동안 큰 변화를 보이지 않았다. 그러므로, 참돔의 운동여부에 따라서 ATPase활성을 살펴본 결과, 운동기간에 따른 약간의 차이는 보이고 있으나, 품질지표로써 사용하기가 어렵다고 판단된다. 효소적인 방법을 이용한 양식산 활어의 품질지표로써 ATP 관련화합물, ATPase 활성은 운동여부, 크기에 따라 객관적인 지표로써의 사용이 어려우므로, 건강도를 측정할 수 있는 AEC의 수치를 적용하는 것이 적합하다고 판단된다. 즉, 양식산 참돔의 AEC 수치가 1∼0.9의 범위에서는 건강한 활어로 상급의 등급을, 0.8∼0.7의 AEC 수치는 중급의 등급으로, 그 이하의 수치에서는 하급으로 적용가능 하다고 판단된다.

The Efficacy Evaluation of Tourmaline-Ionized Water in Animal Study (투어마린이온활성수의 효능 평가)

  • This study was performed using animals to confirm the effect of tourmaline-ionized water (TIW) the properties of which were changed by tourmaline energy and electric discharge. In the ICR mice fed high-fat diet, body weight increasing rate of the TIW-treated group (Exp) was generally decreased and moreover exhibited significance at 11th week (P<0.05) compared with the control (Con) group fed distilled water, although water intake of the Exp group was lower than that of the Con group. In the ICR mice with $CCl_4$-induced hepatotoxicity, AST and ALT activities of the Exp group were not significant but showed some decreasing trend, and histological damage of liver was less compared with thatof the Con group. On the study of ethanol-induced hangovers in Sprague-Dawley rat, blood alcohol concentration was significantly decreased (P<0.01), activity of GST, antioxidant enzyme related to the alcohol metabolism, was increased in liver tissue (P<0.05), and AST and ALT show a tendency to be decreasedin the Exp group. These results suggest that drinking TIWhas not only some obesity preventing effect but also an alcohol detoxification effect and liver protecting effect in vivo. It is supposed due to a structural change of water cluster and a property which maintains the changed structure through tourmaline energy and electric discharge. Therefore, TIW has a potentiality to be developed as functional water with several beneficial effects as well as for daily drinking, but further study on the mechanism related with efficacy will be necessary.

Fuel characteristics of Yellow Poplar bio-oil by catalytic pyrolysis (촉매열분해를 이용한 백합나무 바이오오일의 연료 특성)

  • Bio-oil has attracted considerable interest as one of the promising renewable energy resources because it can be used as a feedstock in conventional petroleum refineries for the production of high value chemicals or next-generation hydrocarbon fuels. Zeolites have been shown to effectively promote cracking reactions during pyrolysis resulting in highly deoxygenated and hydrocarbon-rich compounds and stable pyrolysis oil products. In this study, catalytic pyrolysis was applied to upgrade bio-oil from yellow poplar and then fuel characteristics of upgraded bio-oil was investigated. Yellow Poplar(500 g) which ground 0.3~1.4 mm was processed into bio-oil by catalytic pyrolysis for 1.64 seconds at $465^{\circ}C$ with Control, Blaccoal, Whitecoal, ZeoliteY and ZSM-5. Under the catalyst conditions, bio-oil productions decreased from 54.0%(Control) to 51.4 ~ 53.5%, except 56.2%(Blackcoal). HHV(High heating value) of upgraded bio-oil was more lower than crude bio-oil while the water content increased from 37.4% to 37.4 ~ 45.2%. But the other properties were improved significantly. Under the upgrading conditions, ash and TAN(Total Acid Number) is decrease and particularly important as transportation fuel, the viscosity of bio-oil decreased from 6,933 cP(Control) to 2,578 ~ 4,627 cP. In addition, ZeoliteY was most effective on producing aromatic hydrocarbons and decreasing of from the catalytic pyrolysis.

Traditional Korean diet can alter the urine organic acid profile, which may reflect the metabolic influence of the diet (한식의 체내 대사에 미치는 영향에 대한 연구: 소변 유기산 분석을 통한 한식의 효과)

  • Purpose: To determine the metabolic influence of the traditional Korean diet (K-diet), which has been regarded as a healthy diet, we investigated the profile of urine organic acids that are intermediates of various types of metabolism including energy metabolism. Methods: Ten women aged 50-60 years were recruited and randomly divided into 2 diet groups, K-diet and control diet, the latter of which is a Westernized Korean diet that is commonly consumed by Koreans nowadays. Before and after the 2-week intervention, 46 urine organic acids were determined using LC/MS/MS, along with clinical parameters. Results: The average concentrations of succinate (4.14 ± 0.84 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 1.49 ± 0.11, p = 0.0346) and hydroxymethylglutarate (3.67 ± 0.36 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 2.97 ± 0.29, p = 0.0466), both of which are intermediates of energy metabolism, decreased in the K-diet group after the 2-week intervention, but these were not observed in the control diet group. In particular, the average concentration of succinate in the K-diet group was lower than that in the control group (3.33 ± 0.56 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 1.49 ± 0.11, p = 0.0284) after 2 weeks. The concentrations of two tryptophan metabolites, 5-hydroxyindolacetate (3.72 ± 0.22 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 3.14 ± 0.21, p = 0.0183) and indican (76.99 ± 8.35 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 37.89 ± 10.06, p = 0.0205) also decreased only in the K-diet group. After the 2-week intervention, the concentration of kynurenate, another tryptophan metabolite, was lower in the K-diet group than that in the control diet group (3.96 ± 0.51 ㎍/mg creatinine vs. 2.90 ± 0.22, p = 0.0356). Interestingly, the urine level of kynurenate was positively correlated with BMI (r = 0.61424, p = 0.0003) and total cholesterol (r = 0.46979, p = 0.0088), which decreased only in the K-diet group (239.40 ± 15.14 mg/dL vs. 198.20 ± 13.25, p = 0.0163). Conclusion: The K-diet alters the urinary excretion of organic acids involved in energy metabolism and tryptophan metabolism, suggesting the influence of the K-diet on these types of metabolism. Urine organic acids changed by the K-diet may serve as biomarkers in future studies.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of black soybean (CJ-3) testa extracts on lipid profiles in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Methods: One control group and four STZ-induced diabetic groups with different doses of black soybean (CJ-3) testa extracts treatment [0 mg/kg (diabetic control, EX), 250 mg/kg (EX-250), 500 mg/kg (EX-500), 1,000 mg/kg (EX-1000)] were orally administered for 4 weeks. Results: All CJ-3 treatment groups had remarkably lower serum triglyceride (TG) levels than that of EX group (p < 0.05) whereas hepatic TG contents did not show any differences. Results from serum total cholesterol (TC) concentrations of EX-250 and EX-1000 groups were decreased compared to EX group (p < 0.05). Furthermore, protein levels of 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-Coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase from the liver decreased in all treatment groups (p < 0.05). However, significant differences were not observed in serum glucose and insulin, and glucose transporter 4 (GLUT-4) protein expression in skeletal muscle tissue. Conclusion: These results suggest that black soybean testa extracts could be useful for improvement of hyperlipidemia and hypercholesteremia in diabetes.

The aim of this study was to investigate microbiological and chemical changes on complete feed for milking cow under open-air exposure with moisture 33% at 30℃ during 15 days. pH decreased 6.29 to 4.66 and water activity decreased gradually 0.99 to 0.95. Bacteria increased 6.2×106~1.6×107 to 2.1×109 CFU/g at 5 days and showed 108 CFU/g until 15 days. Fungi increased 103 CFU/g to 8.0×104 CFU/g. During the processing of spoilage, bacteria such as Acinetobacter oleivorans, Pediococcus acidilactici, Acinetobacter oleivorans, Weissella cibaria, and Methylobacterium komagatae were identified and fungi such as Fusarium sp. and Mucor sp. were also identified. Moisture content increased until 10 days (p<0.01). Crude protein was not changed so much whereas crude fat decreased 6.0% to 5.5% (p<0.01). Crude fiber and crude ash changed 2.0~ 3.0% and 4.5~ 4.8% levels with no significance, respectively. Gross energy was not almost changed at 4,400 kcal/g. During spoilage, lactate and propionate increased whereas acetate was not detected. Protease and lipase activities increased significantly during spoilage (p<0.01). Zearalenone content increased 59.2 μg/kg to 623.8 μg/kg, showing 10.5 times more production. During feed spoilage, pH decreased with microbial growth and various chemical changes were occurred.

Effect of Light-Induced ROS Generation Unit on Inactivation of Foodborne Pathogenic Bacteria in Water (광유도 ROS 발생장치의 세척용수 중 식중독 세균에 대한 불활성화 효과)

  • As the consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables increases, food poisoning caused by foodborne pathogen contamination is not decreasing. To prevent the contamination of produce, a quick and easy, low-cost, environmentally-safe disinfection method that does not affect produce freshness or quality is needed. This study demonstrates a new-concept, circulating-water disinfection system that purifies water by using newly developed 'LED-PS (photosensitizer)-induced ROS generation unit'. Using various types of LED-PS induced ROS generation units, we investigated the conditions for reducing the density of various pathogenic bacteria by more than 3 log CFU / mL in 1 hour. The major operational factors affecting the density reduction of the LED-PS-induced ROS generation unit were analyzed. Depending on bacteria species, the density reduction rate was varied. The effect of the units on reducing the density of Bacillus cereus and Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum was high, but the effect on foodborne bacteria such as Escherichia coli was relatively low. In this circulating water disinfection system, the density reduction effect tended to increase as the flow rate increased and the initial bacterial density decreased. As the amount of PS absorbed beads increased, the density reduction effect increased exponentially in some bacteria. Model 3280, a double cylindrical unit connecting two single cylindrical units, could completely sterilize more than 3 log CFU/mL of B. cereus and P. carotovorum subsp. carotovorum in 30 minutes of LED irradiation.

Effects of Corn Distiller's Dried Grains with Solubles on Production Performance and Economics in Laying Hens (옥수수 주정박이 산란계의 생산성 및 경제성에 미치는 효과)

  • A 10-wk layer feeding trial was conducted to investigate the effects of high quality corn distiller's dried grains with solubles (DDGS) on performance, egg qualities, and yolk fatty acid composition. The economics of using DDGS in the Korean situation was also analyzed. A total of 216 Hy-line Brown layers, 23-wk of age, were employed in this trial consisting of three dietary treatments (0%, 10%, and 20% DDGS), and six replicates per treatment. All experimental diets were prepared as iso-protein (17%) and iso-calorie (2,780 kcal/kg). The use of DDGS up to 20% in layer diets did not affect the feed intake, laying rate, egg weight, and feed conversion ratio (P>0.05). At 5th and 10th wk of the trial, the eggshell color, albumen height, and Haugh unit were not influenced by the DDGS supplementation. At 5th wk of the trial, the eggshell qualities, like eggshell weight, eggshell thickness, and eggshell strength, were not affected by the DDGS feeding; however, these eggshell qualities were decreased at 10th wk due to the 20% DDGS feeding (P<0.05). Yolk color of DDGS 20% increased compared to DDGS 0% at 5th and 10th wk of the trial (P<0.05). At 10th wk, yolk/egg ratio of DDGS 20% decreased compared to DDGS 0% (P<0.05). The yolk fat content was not changed due to DDGS feeding. The monounsaturated fatty acid content of yolk decreased linearly by feeding DDGS (P<0.05). The yolk polyunsaturated fatty acid content of DDGS 20% increased significantly compared to DDGS 0%. The DDGS feeding was not found to affect the degree of yolk fat unsaturation. The cost of feed (₩/kg feed) decreased as the level of DDGS increased. The production costs of egg (₩/kg egg) were cheap in the order of DDGS 10%, DDGS 20%, and DDGS 0%, indicating that DDGS is a viable alternative feed ingredient to corn and soybean meal. In conclusion, high quality DDGS ($L^*$ 61.72) could be used economically up to 20% level without any harmful effect on laying performance: however, the use of DDGS up to 10% is more economical than DDGS 20%.
