The Human body is subject to two patterns of senescence, both of which are represented in the eye and vision. This article discusses the anatomical and physiological changes in anterior and posterior segments which occur with age. The areas covered include the globe, lids, tears, conjunctiva, cornea, sclera, anterior chamber angle, iris, lens, choroid, vitreous and retina. A sample of 219 individuals between the ages of 50 and 79 years was tested with case history, slit lamp examination, palpebral fissure, horizontal visible iris diameter(HVID) and pupil size. The palpebral fissure decreases with age while HVID remains constant in all age classes. This study suggests that an understanding of anatomical and physiological changes which occur with age is helpful to all eye clinicians because the aging process affects all of the ocular tissues.
Purpose: This study was to investigate the refractive state of an asian population (male: 39, female: 53) from 21 to 30 years old who visited the A optical shop at jongnogu in seoul. Methods: The visual acuity test was performed by the object and subject method. Results: Among the 184 eyes, myopia is 83.16% and emmetropia is 16.84%, respectively. As for the equivalent spheric power of myopic abnormal refractive eyes, the -m0.5Dt < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -2.00Dt was 40.53%, the -2.00Dt < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -6.00Dt was 51.63% and anything over the -6.00Dt was 7.85%. The percentages of with-the-rule, against-the-rule and oblique astigmatism among people with astigmatism were 46.67%, 35.56% and 7.77%, respectively. The average of pupillary distance in male (64.5${\pm}$2.9 mm) was greater than that in female (61.9${\pm}$2.3 mm). Conclusions: Korean opticians were provided some useful information about making up a prescription by this research.

For this study we made up a question investigation to analyze a grade of satisfaction and a side effect about the prescription actual condition of contact lens of person with astigmatism among the person who has a error of refraction. The whole patient of refractive error was 46 person, there were 11 person who only wear spectacles by correction of visual acuity among person to a question investigation and 35 person who only wear contact lens. Under investigation 35 person who only wear contact lens, there were 25 person who experience the problem which occurs because of contact lens wearing for a long time. The most patient who made up a question investigation very choose remainder item except for item of very satisfaction. The their reason that could not satisfaction was non corrected astigmatism, wrong prescription, wrong Base curve, out of life span etc.
Purpose: The study was aimed to suggest the most effective color of the tinted lenses by evaluating the effect of the prescription with tinted lenses on the visual quality of the elderly at the age of the sixty or more. Methods: The visual acuity of fifty subjects at the age of sixty or more (17 males, 33 females with the averaged age of $71.0{\pm}6.3$) were corrected to have the visual acuity at a far distance of 0.5 or more using a trial lens frame, and non-tinted, brown-tinted, and gray-tinted lenses were randomly applied on the trial frame. The minimum legibility and minimum separability were measured at a far distance in the aspect of the visual acuity and calculated as LogMAR and then, the visual acuity was compared. The stereopsis and contrast sensitivity were also estimated at a near distance in the aspect of the visual function. The participants' preference for tinted lenses and their subjective symptoms of the visual perception and the movement were further surveyed. Results: The best minimum legibility and minimum separability was shown when wearing non-tinted lenses, and brown-tinted and gray-tinted lenses were in the next. The stereopsis and the contrast sensitivity at a near distance and the visual perception was the best when wearing brown-tinted lenses. It was surveyed that the subjective discomfort was the biggest when wearing gray-tinted lenses, and brown-tinted lenses were the best in the aspect of the subjective preference. Conclusions: As the result of this study, it was revealed that the visual acuity and visual function could be improved by the use of tinted ophthalmic lenses however, its change of visual acuity and visual function was not completely correlated with the subjective satisfaction. Therefore, the appropriate color of ophthalmic lenses should be selected in accordance with the individual visual perception and the main vision lifestyle in the elderly generation. From the present study, the use of non- or brown-tinted lens and brown- or gray-tinted lens can be recommended for distance work and near work, respectively, in the elderly generation under the illumination of about 1,000 lux.
The objective of this study was to investigate the problems of soft contact lens wear on the women college students. The results were as follows 1. Almost the purchase of soft contact lens was the optical shop. 2. Almost the motive of soft contact lens use was the discomfort of glasses wear. 3. Almost the good feeling of glasses wear was moderate degree. 4. On the main reason of exchange of contact lens, teens was contact lens damage and tweenths was lifespan of contact lens. 5. On the contact lens wearing time at one day, teens was over 10 hours and tweenths was from 7 hours to 10 hours. 6. On the contact care and treatment, teens was a lens washing and storage and tweenths was a lens washing and disinfectant. 7. On the main difficult of contact lens handling, teens was a lens separation in eye and disinfection of lens case and tweenths was a solution treatment and insertion of contact lens in the eye. 8. On the contact lens insertion in the eye, the most difficult item was hanging of the eyelid and fear thinking in teens and fear thinking in tweenths. 9. On the difficult in separate of contact lens wear, a most subjects were eye opening. 10. On the most inconvenient state in contact lens wearing, the subjects were eye redness, foreign body and eye pain. 11. On the advantage of contact lens wearing, teens was decrease in glasses side effects and twenties was a beauty.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate subjective symptoms according to the wearing, purchase and fitting status of soft contact lens wearers, and consumer perception of base curve. Methods : A survey was conducted for those who visited optical shops and lens shops in Seoul from June to August 2018. A total of 98 answer sheets they submitted were used for the analysis. The chi-square test and Fisher's exact test were used to compare subjective symptoms (dryness, glare, uncomfortable fitting, and decreased vision) according to whether fitting condition is screened (case history and push-up test, ect relevant to wearing sensation), and the odds ratio (OR) was obtained by the logistic regression analysis. Results : When the contact lenses were purchased, the rate of which the visual acuity test was performed was 86.6% at optical shop and 64.7% at lens shop. When purchasing contact lens and the contact lens was not tested for fitting, they more experienced dryness (OR 4.41, 95% CI 1.25-15.62) and uncomfortable fitting (OR 2.68, 95% CI 1.08-6.64) than testing for fitting. In addition, it was investigated that 87.8% of contact lens wearers did not know about the term base curve, 92.9% did not listen to an explanation related to the base curve when purchasing contact lenses, and 96.9% did not experience with base curve test. Conclusion : It would be thought that satisfaction of the contact lens fitting of existing consumers should be improved by changing a proper base curve by confirming the fitting condition when prescribing soft contact lens.
In this paper, we found out the objective refractive errors, the full corrective refractive powers, and the prescriptions for 64 males and 36 females aged 18 to 26 years. To increase the unaided visual acuity 0.1 to the aided visual acuity 1.0 with the glasses, we needed the spherical equivalent refractive power of -3.00D for male and -2.91D for female respectively. To increase the unaided visual acuity 0.5 to the aided visual acuity 1.0 with the glasses, we needed the spherical equivalent refractive power of -0.5D for male and -1.38D for female respectively. Comparing unaided visual acuity and corrective refractive power, the more one has refractive error the less one has unaided visual acuity but these are not linear relationships. Comparing objective refractive error figures, full corrective refractive power figures and prescriptions, objective refractive error figures are the hightest, followed by full corrective refractive power figures. Prescriptions compared with the other two are lower. The cylindrical refractive powers are less than -2.50D. In this study, with the rule astigmatism is dominant over against the rule astigmatism and oblique astigmatism. The accommodation measured by push up method is 6.75D~10.04D for male and 7.50D~9.60D for female respectively.
This study was performed to survey dioptric differences between the refractive states of both eyes from 1,100 patients who were given their prescriptions in spectacles. The differences were obtained by using dioptric power matrix. The prevalence of anisometropia was 96.9% for isoanisometropia, 2.9% for simple anisometropia, 0.2% for antimetropia. Spherical anisometropia was 22.1%, cylindrical anisometropia was 10.9%, spherocylindrical anisometropia was 46.5%, and no anisometropia was 20.5%. Anisometropia was more in thirties and forties than in other groups. In distribution of only spherical diopter differences, 76.1% were less than 0.50D, 91.7% were under 1.00D, only 2.5% were over 2.00D. In cylindrical diopter differences alone, 93.3% had under 0.50D, 1.7% had more than 1.00D. In spherocylindrical anisometropia, 52.8% were less than 0.50D, 78.6% were under 1.00D, 5.1% were more than 2.00D. In axis differences, with-the-rule type was 29.9%, against-the-rule type was 29.8%, oblique type was 40.3%.

Purpose: The study was conducted to compare the values of auto-refraction, manifest refraction and cycloplegic refraction in school-aged children. Methods: One hundred five myopic school children ranged from 6 to 14 years old (210 eyes, $10.28{\pm}1.59$ years old) were recruited and noncycloplegic auto-refraction (AR) and manifest refraction (MR) were conducted and then underwent cycloplegia and refractive status (CR) again with the auto-refractometer. Results: Refractive powers measured by AR, MR, and CR were highly correlated. However, spherical and cylindrical powers of the subjects measured by AR were measured higher negative power than in CR (p<0.001). From 210 eyes, the discrepancy rate in the spherical and cylindrical powers were 40 eyes (19%) and 19 eyes (9%) of the total subjects, respectively and the differences between noncycloplegic and cycloplegic refractions were higher with the spherical and cylindrical powers increasing. Conclusions: The use of the autorefractometer in children with negative spherical power without cycloplegia may overestimate the actual myopia that subjective refraction is the most important in prescription for the eyeglasses and regression equations would be used to prognose the cycloplegic refraction from the auto-refraction as the basic data for the subjective refraction.
Purpose: To assess the refractive state of the westerners (male: 44, female: 62) in twenties who visited the A optical shop at Seoul. Methods: The visual acuity test was performed by the objective and subjective method. Results: The emmetropia and myoptia were 35 and 177 eyes (83.49%), respectively. About 26.76% of tested males was ametropia. Myopia compound and myopia simple astigmatism were found in 60.56% and 12.68% of tested males, respectively. However, about 43.40% of tested females was ametropia. Myopia compound and myopia simple astigmatism were 49.06% and 7.55% were found in tested females, respectively. As for the equivalent spheric power of myopic abnormal refractive eyes, the -0.5D < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -2.00D was 35.02% of tested westerners, the -2.00D < spheric equivalent ${\leq}$ -6.00D was 60.45% and anything over the -6.00D was 4.53%. The percentages of with-the-rule, against-the-rule and oblique astigmatism among people with astigmatism were 59.82%, 26.78% and 13.40%, respectively. The average of pupillary distance in male (63.5${\pm}$2.4 mm) was greater than that in female (59.7${\pm}$2.3 mm). Conclusions: Korean opticians were provided some useful information about making up a prescription for the westerners in twenties by this research.
