  • The purpose of this study was to test the mediation effects of adolescents' ego-resilience on the relation between neglect, abuse and life satisfaction. The 6-year longitudinal data from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were collected from 1st grade middle school students. The data were analyzed by structural equation modeling and Sobel testing. The results of this study were as follows. First, the results revealed that the path from neglect and abuse to life satisfaction was partially mediated by family relations. The relations between trauma(neglect) and ego-resilience are negative(${\beta}=-.258$, p<.001). The relations between ego-resilience and life satisfaction are positive(${\beta}=.843$, p<.001). Second, the verification of the mediation effect of ego-resilience showed that ego-resilience was a full mediator between trauma(neglect) and life satisfaction for 1st grade middle school students(Z=-.169, t(CR)=-.012 (p<.05). Based on these results, the practical implications were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of peer attachment on life satisfaction of adolescents and to verify the mediating effects of career identity and smart-phone dependency in the process. For this purpose, the data from the sixth year Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey(2015) on 1,823 middle school students were analyzed by hierarchical regression analysis and path analysis among variables. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, peer attachment of adolescents had a significantly positive effect on their life satisfaction. Second, adolescents' career identity had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between peer attachment and life satisfaction. Third, the effect of peer attachment on life satisfaction of adolescents was partly mediated by their smart-phone dependency. On the basis of above findings, the practical programs to enhance career-identity and life satisfaction and reduce smart-phone dependency were presented.

  • Using the 3rd to the 6th wave data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), we examined the effects of academic characteristics and social relations on the trajectories of the life satisfaction among adolescents. OLS results showed that male students were more satisfied with their lives than female students in the 3rd grade of middle school. As academic characteristics, academic achievement and the level of class adjustment improved life satisfaction but the amount of learning time spent had a negative effect on life satisfaction. However, the effect of academic achievement lost its statistical significance after including variables of social relations. Relationships with parents, teachers, and friends had positive effects on life satisfaction. The longitudinal analysis using the fixed effect estimation also showed a similar result of the associations among the variables to that in the OLS analysis. The life satisfaction gap between male and female students narrowed over time from the 3rd grade of middle school to the 2nd grade of high school. The effects of relationships with parents and friends showed significant effects on both female and male students, but the relationship with their teachers was significant only for female students. Based on the results, we discussed the issues of Korean education related to the life satisfaction among adolescents.

The author collected the source material by means of SPSS WIN. 21.0 Program, frequency analysis, technological statistic analysis, relative analysis, path analysis (for satisfaction), and sobel test, etc. The results of analysis are as follows: Firstly, the child abuse by their parents has had a significant negative maladjustment on the participants' life satisfaction level. Secondly, the peer attachments had an influence on partial mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and adolescents' content(satisfied) lives. Lastly, the self-esteem had an influence on the complete mediatorial effect between the child abuse by their parents and the adolescents' happy lives. The author gave an improved counterplan for peer attachments and self-esteem. The author suggests following researchers to include the impact of versatile environmental factors on adolescents' life satisfaction level which was excluded in the present research.

  • Adolescence is a period of transition from child to adult and is a very important period in which to think about the direction to go in the future and establish one's ego. However, the level of life satisfaction experienced by Korean youths in the adolescent period has been shown to be the lowest among OECD countries. It is very critical to understand which factors are important in determining the level of life satisfaction and how they affect it. In this study, to analyze the factors which affect the life satisfaction of youths and their learning attitude - essential school activity prior to life satisfaction in the youth period, we firstly focused on the relationships with their parents, peers and teachers as potential factors affecting their learning attitude and life satisfaction. This study found that Parenting Style, Peer Attachment and Relationship with Teachers significantly influenced Life Satisfaction either directly or indirectly. We analyzed the structural relationships among these factors using the structure equation model, discussed the analysis results and concluded with further research directions.

  • This study aims to examine the mutual influences of negative parenting attitudes, self-esteem, and life satisfaction perceived by adolescent children through longitudinal perspective. Data from the first to third years of the panel of the first year middle school students were used among the 2018 data of the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) of the Korea Youth Policy Institute. The longitudinal correlation was analyzed by applying the autoregressive cross-lagged model which can determine the direction of longitudinal causality between variables. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the negative parenting attitudes, self-esteem, and life satisfaction perceived by adolescents had a positive effect on the negative parenting attitude perception, self-esteem, and life satisfaction at later times, respectively. In addition, the higher the negative parenting attitude at the previous point was, the lower the self-esteem or life satisfaction afterward. The higher the life satisfaction, the lower the negative parenting attitude of the parents, and the higher the self-esteem. Recognition of negative parenting attitudes of parents lowered the self-esteem of adolescents, whereas the cross-delay coefficient from self-esteem to negative parenting attitude perception was not significant. Through these results, the longitudinal relationship between negative parenting attitude perception of adolescence, self-esteem, and life satisfaction was confirmed and efforts to form positive self-esteem and improve life satisfaction were discussed.
