Phase Transition Studies on TiO2 anatase under High Pressure (TiO2 아나타제에 대한 고압 상변이 연구)

  • Anatase, one of the $TiO_2$ polymorphs, is known to show different phase transition paths depending on its crystalline and shape. Particle size of 15~25 nm anatase has been subjected to high-pressure Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction studies using a diamond anvil cell. We observe that the starting sample transforms to an amorphous phase above approx. 20 GPa, which is retained upon pressure release to ambient condition. This is in contrast to previously established transition to baddeleyite phase and we suspect difference in the particle distribution state trigger phase instability of nanoparticles and hence amorphization.

A Study on Photocatalytic Decomposition of Methylene Blue by Crystal Structures of Anatase/Rutile $TiO_2$ (아나타제/루틸 $TiO_2$ 결정 구조에 의한 메틸렌 블루 광분해 특성 연구)

  • Anatase and anatase/rutile $TiO_2$ samples were prepared at $HNO_3$/TTIP molar ratio of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 to study the effects of the physical properties of $TiO_2$ on photocatalytic decomposition of methylene blue. The physical properties of the samples were measured with XRD, SEM, TEM, BET, FT-IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy. Anatase phase was observed at $HNO_3$/TTIP of 0.1 and anatase/rutile phases were observed at $HNO_3$/TTIP of 0.5~1.5. Rutile crystal phase, mesopore size between $TiO_2$ nanoparticles, and surface OH group on $TiO_2$ sample were gradually increased with increasing the molar ratio of $HNO_3$/TTIP and the residual methylene blue concentration before UV irradiation decreased from 78.0 to 53.3%. After UV irradiation, the residual methylene blue concentrations of the samples prepared at $HNO_3$/TTIP of 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 were 20, 14, 11, and 23%, respectively, and the sample prepared at $HNO_3$/TTIP of 1.0 showed the best photocatalytic ability.

  • High pressure has been applied to check the pressure effect on the powdered $TiO_2$-complex, which was synthesized for ultra-violet rays cutoff and antimicrobial applications. $TiO_2$-complex consists of anatase, rutile and silver chloride. Grain size was determined to be ~34 nm. Both anatase and rutile begin structural phase transitions to $ZrO_2$ (baddeleyite)-type crystal structures at 14~16 GPa, then sustain their phases up to 22.7 GPa. Under decompression to 0.0001 GPa (ambient pressure), rutile transforms to another phase with ${\alpha}-PbO_2$ structure, while anatase retains its high pressure structure upon complete decompression. Silver chloride peaks disappear at the low pressures.

  • 산업화에 따라 각종 산업분야에서 유기 용제의 사용이 증가하게 되었고 대기오염, 수질오염 등의 상태가 심각해져가고 있는 실정이다 그러나 다양해진 오염물질을 처리하는 데 있어서 기존의 산화처리방법은 한계에 달하였고 새로운 처리공정으로 최근 고급산화법(AOP : Advanced Oxidation Process)에 대한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대기환경 및 인체에 심각한 영향을 주는 VOCs(Voletail Organic compounds)중 BTEX(Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, Xylene)를 다양한 형태의 광촉매제를 이용하여 기상 광분해한 후 이에 대한 최적의 분해 조건과 분해율을 비교하고자 하였다. 순환식의 자체 제작한 기상광반응장치를 이용하여, CVD법으로 TiO$_2$ 입자를 알루미나 비드위에 코팅한 볼과 같은 방법으로 유리기판위에 코팅한 판상의 광촉매제 그리고 결정성이 각기 다른 루틸상과 아나타제 그리고 아나타제/루틸 혼합상의 TiO$_2$ 분말을 직접 이용하여 VOCs 농도와 종류, 광원의 종류 및 세기를 변화시켜 PID(Photo ionization Detector)방식의 순환식 VOCs 측정기를 이용하여 광분해율을 실시간으로 측정하였다.

  • TiOCl$_2$수용액과 암모니아수의 반응으로부터 얻은 titanium hydroxide 침전물에 대해 각각 NaOH 또한 HCl 처리를 통하여 비교적 낮은 온도에서 결정성이 우수하고, 높은 비표면적을 갖는 결정형 TiO$_2$나노분말을 제조하였다. 저온처리 조건을 변화시킴으로써 TiO$_2$분말의 결정상과 입자 모양을 제어할 수 있었는데, NaOH 처리한 다음 산처리한 분말에는 아나타제와 루틸상이 함께 형성되었으며 구형입자와 긴 스핀들 모양의 입자들로 이루어져 있었고, 비등수 처리 시에는 열처리를 통해 아나타제상의 구형 입자들을 얻을 수 있었다. Titanium hydroxide를 0.1M과 0.5M에 산처리한 분말은 모두 아나타제상을 나타내었는데, 0.1M의 분말은 구형입자로 이루어져 있었고, 0.5M의 경우는 대부분 구형입자들로 이루어져 있었지만 스핀들 모양의 입자들도 소량 관찰되었으며, 2M에 산처리한 분말은 루틸상으로서 모두 스핀들 모양의 입자들로 이루어져 있었고, 제조된 분말의 비표면적은 약 240-250$m^2$/g을 나타내었다.

Photo-catalytic Characteristics of Sol-Gel Synthesized TiO2 Thin Film (졸-겔법을 이용한 TiO2 박막의 광촉매 특성)

  • Thin film of $TiO_2$ was obtained by the sol-gel dip method on the brosilicate glass substrate. It was found that the film was about $1.5{\mu}m$ thick as obtained by 4 successive coatings and annealed at varied temperatures ranged from $300^{\circ}C$ to $1100^{\circ}C$ for 2 hrs. The substrate used was having the surface area of $100mm^2$. Increasing the annealing temperature caused to change in mineralogical phase of titanium oxide i.e., amorphous, crystalline antase to rutile phases. The particle size of the titanium oxide film were ranged from $0.1{\sim}0.54{\mu}m$ estimated by the SEM analysis. The material showed an absorbance maximum at the wavelength 390nm obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometer. These results therefore, indicated that the $TiO_2$ film obtained relatively at low annealing temperature consisted predominantly with anatase phase; possessed higher photocatalytic behavior i.e., 2.4 times higher than that of only UV lamp irradiation.

  • Nanostructured $TiO_2-SiO_2$ materials have widely been used as anti-reflecting coating, optical-chemical sensors and catalysts because of their superior optical and thermal properties as well as chemical durability. Web type $SiO_2$ microfibers with nano-crystalline $TiO_2$ were prepared by electrospinning of Ti-PCS mixed solution and oxidation controlled heat-treatment, rather simple than sol-gel process. Nano-crystalline anatase phase were formed for the heat-treatment up to $1200^{\circ}C$ and they were finely dispersed in the amorphous $SiO_2$ matrix.

Structural and optical properties of TiO2 thin films prepared by Sol-Gel dip coating method (졸-겔 침지코팅법으로 제조된 TiO2 박막의 구조적.광학적 특설)

  • The TiO$_2$ coating solutions were synthesized with different concentrations (T1-0.7N, T2-2.0N) of hydrochloric acid used as catalyst. and TiO$_2$ thin films were prepared by sol-gel dip coating. Their structural and optical properties were examined as a function of calcination temperature. XRD results showed that T1 thin films calcined at 400~80$0^{\circ}C$ had the anatase phase, while those calcined at 100$0^{\circ}C$ had the rutile phase. T2 thin films calcined at 40$0^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ had the anatase phase, with the rutile phase for calcination at 80$0^{\circ}C$. Crystallinity of T2 thin films was superior to that of T1 thin films. The crystallite size of TiO$_2$ thin films increased with increasing calcination temperature, and the crystallite size of anatase phase in T2 thin films was larger than that in T1 thin films, but the crystallite size of rutile phase in T2 thin films was smaller. The surface morphology of the films showed that the films were formed more densely in the rutile phase than in the anatase phase, this phenomenon appeared conspicuously in T2 thin films. The transmittance of the samples with thin films on quartz glass calcined at 100$0^{\circ}C$ was significantly reduced at wavelength range about 300-700 nm due to the increased absorption originating from the change of crystallite phase and composition of the films and the scattering effect originating from increasing crystallite size. The refractive index of TiO$_2$ thin films increased, and hence the film thickness as well as the porosity of TiO$_2$ thin films decreased with increasing calcination temperature. Furthermore, the refractive index of T2 thin films was higher than T1 thin films, and porosity of T2 films was lower.

Effects of Flame Temperature on the Characteristics of Flame Synthesized $TiO_{2}$ Nanoparticles (화염온도에 따른 $TiO_{2}$ 나노입자의 결정구조 및 입자크기 변화)

  • In this work, $TiO_{2}$ nanoparticles were synthesized using a $N_{2}-diluted$ hydrogen coflow diffusion flame. The effect of flame temperature on the crystalline structure and the size of formed nanoparticles was investigated. The maximum centerline temperature of the flame ranged from 1,920K for $H_{2}-only$ flame to 863K for 81% $N_{2}-diluted$ flame. When the temperature was higher than about 1,000K, the particle size was tend to increase due to the agglomeration and sintering among the primary particles. On the other hand, when the temperature was lower than 1,000K, the portion of anatase phase was greater than 80%.

  • 유도결합플라즈마를 적용한 화학기상증착법으로 $TiO_2$ 박막을 얻었다. 박막의 특성 조절을 위해 수소유량을 변화시켰다. 수소 유량을 증가시킴에 따라 박막의 표면 형상, 결정성, 결정 구조 및 광촉매 특성이 변하였다. 고밀도 플라즈마가 반응 기체의 분해를 촉진함으로써 외부 가열없이 아나타제 $TiO_2$가 만들어졌다. 적절한 양의 수소를 첨가했을 때, 루타일 상으로 상전이가 발생하였다. 화학기상증착법에서 루타일 $TiO_2$는 일반적으로 900 K 이상의 고온에서 형성되는 것으로 알려져 있다. 수소의 역할을 고찰하기 위해 랭뮤어 탐 침법과 발광 분광기를 이용한 플라즈마 진단을 수행하였다.
