  • The objective of this study was to identify factors affecting the positive and negative responses of undergraduate students to inferiority by using a group counseling program to manage the inferiority of undergraduate students majoring in health science. This study sampled 30 undergraduate students attending the health science department of S University and divided them into a treatment group and a control group. The treatment group received an inferiority management group counseling program twice a week 120 minutes each from November 20, 2018, to January 2, 2019 eight sessions in total. The inferiority response criterion was applied before-treatment, after-treatment, and follow-up to verify the effectiveness of the program. The analysis results showed that the inferiority management group counseling program significantly decreased the negative response of undergraduate students to inferiority and significantly increased the positive response to inferiority. These results suggest that the inferiority management counseling program can lower the negative attitude and enhance the positive attitude toward the inferiority, which is caused by comparing themselves with their peers.

  • The present study examined the effects of positive affect and the response styles to positive affect(enhancing and dampening) on well-being. Based on Fredrickson's (1998) 'Broaden-and-Build theory', we hypothesized that positive affect and response styles of positive affect predict well-being, and there is reciprocal effects between of predictors on well-being. Using a short-term longitudinal study, 147 undergraduate and graduate students completed measures of positive affect, responses to positive affect, and well-being. The results showed positive affect and enhancing positive affect predict increased well-being, but not dampening. Moreover, mediational analyses showed that positive affect and enhancing positive affect reciprocally predict one another. We discussed implications for practice of counseling and limitations of the study.

  • In this study, we hypothesized that the needs for start-up support services may vary depending on the founder's psychological characteristics, such as self-efficacy or his attitude toward uncertainty. To verify this, a survey was conducted on the founders of 86 companies located in Business Incubators at Seoul and Daejeon and an empirical analysis was conducted based on the data. According to the analysis, the higher the self-efficacy of the founder, the more active he expressed his willingness to accept the start-up support service, which aims to provide start-up zones to busy areas outside the university. While the founder, who has experienced failure in the past, responded positively to attracting customers located outside the university. The results of this study supported the hypothesis and suggest that differentiated start-up support services should be designed by including not only characteristics at the level of start-up companies, such as industries and growth stages, but also the psychological characteristics of start-ups in important consideration.

  • This study investigates happy life experiences and their emotional responses to these experiences with a sample of Korean students and adults. A total of 489 Korean university students and adults completed an open-ended questionnaire developed by the present researchers. Three sets of results have been found. First, while experiences of achievement and failure affect the strength of feelings of happiness or unhappiness, social relationships with family members and friends affect the frequency of feelings of happiness or unhappiness. Second, while strong positive affects are aroused by sense of achievement and pride, frequent positive affects are aroused by feeling of calmness and positive relational emotions (such as Jung - deep affection and attachment). Third, while strong negative affects are aroused by sense of frustration and sadness, frequent negative affects are aroused by anxiety and negative relational emotions (such as the sense of indebtedness and shame). These results indicate that the interpersonal relationships with family members and friends and personal achievements and failures influence the subjective well-being of feeling happy or unhappy with people's lives.
