Brittle failure of Mesozoic granite in the Daejeon region is predicted using empirical analysis and numerical modeling techniques. The input parameters selected for these techniques were based on the results of laboratory tests, including damage-controlled tests. Rock masses that were considered to be strong during laboratory testing were assigned to "group A" and those considered to be extremely strong were assigned to "group B". The properties of each group were then used in the analyses. In-situ stress measurements, or the ratio of horizontal to vertical stress (k), were also necessary for the analyses, but no such measurements have been made in the study area. Therefore, k values of 1, 2, and 3 were assumed. In the case of k=1, empirical analysis and numerical modeling show no indication of brittle failure from the surface to1000 m depth. When k=2, brittle failure of the rock mass occurs at depths below 800 m. For k=3, brittle failure occurs at depths below 600 m. Although both the Cohesion Weakening Friction Strengthening (CWFS) and Mohr-Coulomb models were used to predict brittle failure, only the CWFS model performed well in simulating the range and depth of the brittle failure zone.
To investigate the image-forming property of optical system having Gaussian amplitude for polychromatic source, we calculated the chromaticity variation and the illuminance distribution. Considered polychromatic sources in this paper are A light which is on incandescent-tungsten lamp, C light which is a daylight, and $D_{65}$ light which is a extend daylight to the near ultraviolet. The polychromatic sources represent the different chromaticity values at a geometrical image point. The chromaticity variation of optical system having a Gaussian amplitude is smaller than that having an uniform amplitude. The illuminance distributions for polychromatic sources present nearly the same values, and the depth of focus for optical system having a Gaussian amplitude is wider than that having an uniform amplitude. From these results, we know that the depth of focus increases and the chromaticity variation decreases, when the incident light amplitude is modulated from an uniform amplitude to a Gaussian amplitude.

In this paper, we present a novel digital multifocusing approach using adaptive region-based histogram equalization for the multiple color-filter aperture (MCA) system with insufficient amount of incoming light. From the image acquired by the MCA system, we can estimate the depth information of objects at different distances by measuring the amount of misalignment among the RGB color planes. The estimated depth information is used to obtain multifocused images together with the process of the region-of-interests (ROIs) classification, registration, and fusion. However, the MCA system results in the low-exposure problem because of the limited size of the apertures. For overcoming this problem, we propose adaptive region-based histogram equalization. Based on the experimental results, the proposed algorithm is proved to be able to obtain in-focused images under the low light level environment.
In a nonlinear site response analysis which is performed in time domain, small strain damping is modeled as viscous damping through use of various forms of Rayleigh damping formulations. Small strain damping of soil is known to be independent of the loading frequency, but the viscous damping is greatly influenced by the loading frequency. The type of Rayleigh damping formulation has a pronounced influence on the dependence. This paper performs a series of nonlinear analyses to evaluate the degree of influence of the viscous damping formulation on Korean soil profiles. Analyses highlight the strong influence of the viscous damping formulation for soil profiles exceeding 30 m in thickness, commonly used in simplified Rayleigh damping formulation overestimating energy dissipation at high frequencies due to artificially introduced damping. When using the full Rayleigh damping formulation and carefully selecting the optimum modes, the artificial damping is greatly reduced. Results are further compared to equivalent linear analyses. The equivalent linear analyses can overestimate the peak ground acceleration even for shallow profiles less than 20 m in thickness.

We've run leveled intense and supplementary study groups connected with JAVA regular classes for more effective learning of computer programming. We performed the test for evaluating learning understanding degrees between before and after study to analyze learning effect for three leveled study groups and a non study group, and we also analyzed the differences of learning understanding degrees among 4 learner groups by computer programming areas. As a result, we can reach the result what programming areas are effective to be operated by intense and supplementary study groups. Those areas are the area to improve the ability of programming applying concepts through in-depth understanding of concepts, and the area of programming through mixed knowledges related each other. The study group for low-leveled learners has most improved of four groups. Low-leveled group was behind the other study groups on programming application ability, but the group was more excellent than non study group in most programming areas.

A numerical model (SK-EST) for estimating hydraulic conductivity using monitoring data of underground LPG storage cavern was developed. The model calculates hydraulic conductivity from matrix equation which is established from the distribution of hydraulic potential. To verify the applicability of this model, an inverse analysis was performed using the monitoring data of pressure cell of an operating underground LPG storage cavern. And also using the water pressure parker test data which were obtained to look over the operation capability of pressure cell, conductivity variation with depth was estimated using the developed numerical model (SK-EST) and was compared with in situ results.
In this study, we found that the design can be configured according to the visual weight in the design of the interface. First of all, interface design has gone through the era of squeeze morphism to express depth and dimension by borrowing part of material design or head design from flat design. This is due to the characteristics of metro UI and flat design, which are difficult to express depth and dimension, but in material design, there was no separate device for inducing eyes, so Gestalt theory showed the principle of visual weight. Positive and negative, the size and placement of regions, proximity, closure, and notion were closely related to visual weight and orientation, and in some cases, it could be applied to the interface.
Gravel is commonly employed to enhance the bearing capacity of foundations and provide stable support for structures. However, effectively assessing the ground characteristics in the presence of gravel poses significant challenges. This study aims to compare the resolution of ground containing gravel using electrical resistivity, elastic wave surveys, and ground penetration radar (GPR). Nondestructive methods are applied at construction sites where soil improvement is carried out using gravel. The experiments focus on shallow depths, and the obtained results cover depths up to 2 m. Both the electrical resistivity and elastic wave techniques exhibit similar behavior in their findings, indicating comparable outcomes. However, GPR has limitations in observing the characteristics of ground with gravel. Dynamic cone-penetration tests were conducted to validate these findings. The electrical resistivity and elastic wave profiles exhibited similar behaviors in localized areas, further supporting their compatibility and reliability.
A new intelligent home appliance is being appeared with overlap of telecommunication and home appliance technology. In this kind of product the user interface especially on screen display(OSD) and remote controller, holds a key post and is critical factor of performance and usability. In spite of this importance, the user interface is designed by circurt engineer from a viewpoint of engineering on the basis of his experience and unsophisticated insight. Therefore this study clarifies a user- centered design process of OSD from the designer's viewpoint on the basis of development case and gives a guideline for each stage in consideration of characteristic features that the user interface design of OSD is highly enfluenced by hardware specification and restricted by remote controller as input device.
This paper intended to assess the hydro-structure characteristics of volcanic rocks based on the hydrogeological data obtained from the underground storage cavern during construction. The variation of groundwater levels was periodically measured from the 28 surface monitoring holes(NX size) and the hydraulic pressures and injection rates were daily monitored from the water curtain holes(95 horizontal holes and 63 vertical holes). The hydraulic interference tests were performed in whole water curtain holes. The distribution patterns of hydraulic pressure are closely related to the dip angles of fracture intersected to the water curtain holes. Three domains can be grouped by the distribution of hydraulic pressures in the horizontal water curtain holes. The initial hydraulic pressures measured immediately after drilling of water crutain holes are high in ascending order of the cavern C-2, C-1, and C-3. The priliminary hydrochemical data also indicate that the portions of the deep groundwater composition is relatively great in the cavern C-3 area. Some of the horizontal water curtain holes in the cavern C-3 show a steady higher groundwater pressure with the composition of shallow groundwater indicating the outer boundary as constant hydraulic boundary. The water curtain holes in the cavern C-2 is characterized as low initial hydraulic pressure and less injection rates, suggesting poor hydraulic connectivity to a shallow groundwater system. The results of the study can help to understand a hydraulic compartment concept in a fracture hydro-geology and be utilized during the surface investigation for a groundwater system.
