  • Direct time integration method such as Newmark method is numerically performed under the assumption that continuous load function such as constant amplitude load can be treated as a discontinuous load fuction. It is due that the load can be treated as a constant value at the given time period regardless of variation of load at the time increment interval. It means the numerical results should be accompanied by the error due to approximation of load fuction. In contrast, the load function is calculated by convolution integral for the given time interval at finite element equation based on Gurtin's variation equation. Therefore. precise numerical results can be obtained by Gurtin's method because of convolution integral for the continuous load fuction curve even at the variation of load function in the given time interval. In this study, we prove that Gurtin's method can be more suitable than Newmark method in the problem of constant amplitude loading, using the numerical results for the free end of the one-dimensional rod. This study also shows that Gurtin's method is more effective in constant amplitude loading than in constant loading. The accuracy and the validity are verified by comparison between the results of in-house FORTRAN code and ADINA, a commercial software supporting Newmark method.

  • In this study, vertical dynamic analyses on the suspension bridges under seismic load are developed. Time domain analysis, random vibration analysis, and spectral analysis are formulated theoretically. The random nitration analysis is checked by numerical integration and the mathematical integration with correlation coefficient which include CQC and SRSS method in the conditions of white noise and filtered white noise. Beam, truss and frame elements are used in order to model the suspension bridge. Geometric stiffness due to dead load is considered for cable and tower.

  • Two-dimensional explicit finite element code was developed. The transient dynamics code can analyse large deformations of non-linear materials subjected to extremely high strain rates. The Lagrangian finite element program uses an explicit time integration operator to integrate the equations of motion, thus the stiffness matrix is not introduced. Cylinder upsetting and ring compression problems are simulated to check the effects of friction and inertia force. It is shown that (1) calculated results agree very well with experimental results, (2) constant shear friction method overestimates the decrease of inner ring radius and then underestimates after on in comparison with the Coulomb friction method, and (3) the effect of the increase in initial strain rate is similar to the effect of higher frictional coefficient.

  • Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive optical method which measures arterial oxygen saturation with two different wavelength. We can obtain the pulsating component of the arterial blood superimposed on DC level attenuated by venous blood, skin and other nonpulsatile components. This study is based on computing algorithm of oxygen saturation using the integral ratio of pulsatile components. In this algorithm, we used the half cycle of the pulsatile signal rely on arterial contraction. It's period is about 1/4 in 1 cycle. In the result, Our algorithm with 1/4 period of 1 cycle is similar to existing model. Because of removal that A part have low amplitude and possession in long term from calculating, the effect of the motion-artifact is decrease.

  • This paper presents a novel ARAP (as-rigid-as-possible) approach to real-time simulation of physics-based deformation. To cope with one, two and three dimensional deformable bodies in an efficient, robust and uniform manner, we introduce a deformation graph of oriented particles and formulate the corresponding ARAP deformation energy. For stable time integration of the oriented particles, we develop an implicit integration scheme formulated in a variational form. Our method seeks the optimal positions and rotations of the oriented particles by iteratively applying an alternating local/global optimization scheme. The proposed method is easy to implement and computationally efficient to simulate complex deformable models in real time.

  • This paper established the dynamic model of a flexible Timoshenko beam capable of geometrical nonlinearities subject to large overall motions by using the finite element method. Equations of motion are derived by using Hamilton principle and are formulated in terms of finite elements in which the nonlinear constraint equations are adjoined to the system using Lagrange multipliers. The Newmark direct integration method and the Newton-Raphson iteration are employed here for the numerical study which is to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed formulation.

  • Estimating the first order plus time delay model on the basis of the step responses has been widely used in industry for the tuning of PID controllers. Even though various model identification methods from simple graphical approaches to complicated approaches based on least squares method have been proposed, simple approaches to incorporate noisy step responses are rarely available. In this research, we will compare and analyze recent approaches using the integrals of the step responses and develop an improved identification method to incorporate real situations more effectively.

  • A new finite element formulation based on the relaxation type hereditary integral is presented for a time-domain analysis of isotropic, linear viscoelastic problems. The semi-discrete variational approximation and elastic-viscoelastic correspondence principle are used in the theoretical development of the proposed method. In a time-stepping procedure of final, linear algebraic system equations, only a small additional computation for past history is required since the equivalent stiffness matrix is constant. The viscoelasticity matrices are derived and the stress computation algorithm is given in matrix form. The effect of time increment and Gauss point numbers on the numerical accuracy is examined. Two dimensional numerical examples of plane strain and plane stress are solved and compared with the analytical solutions to demonstrate the versatility and accuracy of the present method.

  • As shear-warp volume rendering is the fastest rendering method among the software based approaches, image quality is not good as that of other high-quality rendering methods. In this paper, we propose two methods to improve the image quality of shear-warp volume rendering without sacrificing computational efficiency. First, supersampling is performed in intermediate image space. We propose an efficient method to transform between volume and image coordinates at the arbitrary ratio. Second, we utilize pre-integrated rendering technique for shear-warp rendering. We propose new data structure called overlapped min-max map. Using this structure, empty space leaping can be performed so that we can maintain the rendering speed even though pre-integrated rendering is applied. Consequently, shear-warp rendering can generate high-qualify images comparable to those generated by the ray-casting without degrading speed.
