  • The study goals are establishing a library management plan for the school for the blind in Korea and also developing a structured library program, which reflected the patron's perception. We surveyed the students in three schools for the blind to identify their perception and usage statistics of the libraries. The analysis of the survey led to a school library program framework consisting of four types. To verify the applicability and effectiveness of the framework, we designed ten programs to meet the needs of the schools by consulting respective school's teachers. We administered the second survey after the classes, and we found that there were positive increases in the frequency of library use, a number of books read, perception about the libraries, amount of information used, and self-directed learning willingness.

  • This study observes information education of facilities for the disabled. A certain facility for the disabled was selected in Daejeon to compare the educational environment for visually disabled of regular school for visually disabled and facilities for the disabled, and then personnel current situation by age and form of the disabled, teacher current situation by age, computer possessing current situation, weekly education schedule for the disabled, and equipment possessing current situation for visually disabled were observed. As a result, expansion of Braille education was necessary for the Braille skilled, which is the basis of information education information to visually disabled is insufficient, and forming of learning environment was desperate since equipment necessary for computer education was absurdly lacking unlike regular schools. Also, only 10 out of 21 teachers(47%) majored in social welfare or special education, and none majored in computer. It is because support for employment of those who majored social welfare, special education, and computer is insufficient compared to treatment for teachers at general schools at the facility for the disabled since teacher employment regulation at the facility for the disabled is not set. It is studied that providing high-quality of education environment to the disabled was desperate through physical and social treatment that suits nurturing of the professionally knowledge personnel through expansion of equipments and constant education and training based on government support to promote information education of the facility for the disabled.

  • In this paper, we studied the voice recognition system kiosk for convenience, thinking that the kiosk widely used in modern society should compensate for the inconvenience of using by the visually impaired. Using ultrasonic sensor and PIR(Passive Infrared), it recognizes the visually impaired within the range of 80cm-40cm, introduces the kiosk through the MP3 module and induces them to come closer. Also, when the visually impaired within 40cm is recognized, the product description and order are guided through the MP3 module. A recording-based data voice recognition system and a kiosk that outputs desired items through servo motors were studied. A kiosk for the convenience of the visually impaired was manufactured through operation and optimization experiments of PIR, ultrasonic, voice recognition, and shock sensor for the manufactured voice recognition kiosk. Finally, it was confirmed that security can be strengthened by using shock sensors and emergency bells to enhance security.

Producing braille music requires professionals such as braille translators thereby it costs money for an individual to order braille music. Therefore, public libraries involve in producing and distributing braille music. Current status of digital braille music in Korea has been far from the fulfillment with the unmet needs of the blind people for diversity in their music preferences. This paper analyses the present condition of braille music possession in Korea National Library. Based on the analysis, policy proposals has been proposed.

  • In this paper, research was conducted to prevent various safety accidents that may occur from infant carriages carrying children and to make the use of infant carriages easier. In order to prevent the baby car from running without protection, a brake function is installed on the baby car wheels using a pressure sensor and a servo motor. Then, a pressure sensor and LCD are used to determine whether the seat belt is fastened to prevent the child from falling out of the baby car. In addition, it was designed to use LCD and LED to turn on a warning light when the temperature and humidity exceed a certain level, so that infants can be in a comfortable environment when using the baby car.

  • This study was conducted to improve the education method for improving perception awareness of the visually-impaired. 'Hear me later' was designed and implemented based on VR content that allows the visually-impaired experience in the eyes and environment. The main target is from middle and high school students to adolescents in their twenties. It is consisted of a student, the user's daily life with waking up at home in the morning, going to school, taking classes at school, and disembarking home late in the dark. In addition, 10 quests are placed on each map to induce users' participation and activity. These quests are a daily activity for non-disabled people, but it is an activity to experience uncomfortable activity for visually impaired people. In order to verify the effect of 'Hear me later', 8 participants in their early teens to early 20s' perception of visually impaired people was measured through pre and post evaluation of VR contents experience. In order to verify the effect of'Hear me later', 8 participants in their early teens to early 20s' perception of visually impaired people was measured through pre-post evaluation of VR experiences. As a result, it was found that in the post-evaluation of VR contents experience, the perception of the visually impaired was increased by 30% compared to the pre-evaluation. In particular, misunderstandings and changes in prejudice toward the visually impaired were remarkable. Through this study, the possibility of a VR-based disability experience education program that can freely construct space-time and maximize the experience was verified. In addition, it laid the foundation to expand it to various fields of improvement of the disabled.
