Design of GPS Antenna with Electromagnetically Coupled Slot Radiator(ECSR) for Mobile Handset Applications (전자기적 결합된 슬롯 방사체를 이용한 휴대단말기용 GPS 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a GPS antenna is designed by using metal film which can be attached on the case of battery without additional space for antenna in GPS band operation. The proposed metal film has a half-wavelength slot radiator. The slot radiator is fed by th electromagnetic field coupled from the GSM850/PCS band antenna. The proposed GPS antenna obtains about 20 MHz bandwidth(VSWR<3) which can cover entire GPS band. The antenna has an average gain of -3.8 dBi.

  • This paper suggests a CPW-fed UWB antenna with new hexagonal slot. To increase the impedance bandwidth of an antenna, the proposed antenna is designed with the hexagonal patch. Polygonal slot is inserted in the hexagonal patch to avoid interference with IEEE 802.11a. The proposed antenna was fabricated on FR-4 substrate with a relative dielectric constant 4.7 and thickness of 1.6 mm and measured for VSWR Characteristic and group delay. The fabricated antenna shows that the gain flatness is 4 dBi except at the band for IEEE 802.11a.

Design of Microstrip Antenna with U Slotted Ground Plane using Genetic Algorithm and FDTD Method (유전자 알고리즘과 FDTD 방법을 이용한 접지면 U 슬롯 구조의 마이크로스트립 안테나 설계)

  • This paper presents a broadband compact microstrip antenna design with four U slots on the ground plane by using of genetic algorithm. FDTD method is used as fitness function for antenna analysis, and length of rectangular patch, length of ground plane slot, distance from center point to feed point is used as optimization parameter for maximum bandwidth and minimum size. The measurement result of implemented antenna present 10 dB bandwidth of 15.63 % and peak gain of 3.61 dBi in the 2.445 GHz, and antenna has a reduced patch size of 54.8 % compare with normal microstrip antenna.

The Design of the Ultra-Wideband Slot Antenna by Using a Semi-Circular Extension (반원 확장을 이용한 초광대역 슬롯 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we have proposed a Ultra-Wideband slot notch antenna by using a semi-circular extension. The proposed antenna cover the entire UWB band(3.1${\~}$10.6 GHz) and notch out the IEEE 802.1la frequency band(5.15${\~}$5.825 GHz) by inserting a $\lambda$/4 length slot into the patch. A prototype antenna was fabricated on FR-4( ${\epsilon}_r$ =4.4, substrate thickness=0.8 mm) and measured for VSWR characteristics. The measured notched frequency variations versus frequency for different slot length. The path loss and group delay were measured. The proposed antenna also show a good gain flatness(1.9 dBi) except the IEEE 802.1la frequency band.

Dual Band Microstrip Antenna with Modified Inset Feeder and a Slot (수정된 Inset 급전선과 단일 슬롯을 이용한 이중대역 마이크로스트립 안테나)

  • In this paper, we study the characteristics of dual band microstip antenna with modified inset feeder and a single slot. The modified inset feeder consists of the vertical inset feeder placed in x direction and the horizontal one in y direction for shortening the total length of inset feeder. The optimun feeding position for good impedance matching at two resonant frequencies can be easily found by adjusting the horizontal inset distance. And Various frequency ratios can be simply obtained by the parameters of slot. The measurements for fabricated antenna prototypes are carried out for validation. The measured results show a tunable frequency ratio from 1.25 to 1.88 with the variation of slot parameters. It is worthwhile to point out that the radiation patterns are similar at both bands. and below -20.0 dB of cross polarization level at the E plane.

Wideband Slot Antenna with Corrugated Structure (물결모양 구조를 갖는 광대역 슬롯 안테나)

  • In this paper, a wideband slot antenna with corrugated structure antenna is proposed. The proposed antenna consists of a ground plane with corrugated slot and microstrip feed-line. Even with a limited dimension of $70{\times}70{\times}1.6mm$, the proposed antenna has wide bandwidth due to the longer current path formed by the corrugated slot structure. Measured bandwidth(10 dB return loss) and fractional bandwidth of the proposed antenna are 2,180 MHz(2.5~4.68 GHz) and 60.7 % at the center frequency of 3.59 GHz. The proposed antenna has an omni-directional radiation pattern and measured gains and average efficiency were 3.48~5.83 and dBi, 81.55 %, respectively.

More compact rectangular two stepped slot antenna for Wi-Fi dual band application (더욱 소형화된 와이파이 이중대역용 직사각형 2단 계단식 슬롯 안테나)

  • In the present study, a more compact dual-band slot antenna is newly proposed for Wi-Fi application. The proposed antenna is composed of rectangular two stepped slot with open end which can generate standing wave resonance at dual frequency bands and L-type microstrip feed line. The measured impedance bandwidths are 50 MHz(2.412 ~ 2.470 GHz) at low frequency band and 452 MHz(5.451 ~ 5.903 GHz) at high frequency band respectiviely. Furthermore its size of 14 × 21 mm2 is reduced by 30% compared to the size of 20 × 21 mm2 of a conventional similar compact slot antenna. It has the omni-directional radiation pattern characteristics of a typical dipole antenna on the H-Plane, so it is suitable for commercial wireless network applications such as Wi-Fi.

Design and Manufacture of X-Band 10 X 10 Waveguide Slot Array Antenna for SAR (SAR용 X-밴드 10 10도파관 슬롯 배열 안테나 설계 및 제작)

  • The X-band 10${\times}$10 waveguide slot array antenna for SAR is designed, fabricated and measured. The array antenna is designed using the equivalent circuit model based on the field distribution of the dominant mode, TE$\sub$10/, and EM simulation. The method to decide optimum angle of the centered inclined slot(coupling slot) and the optimum of offset of the longitudinal slot(radiating slot) is provided. The designed antenna structure is EM simulated and fabricated. The measured return loss bandwidth is 180 MHz at 9.15 GHz , the side lobe level is below -25 dB, HPBW is about 9$^{\circ}$, and the gain is 25.5 dB. These results are similar to the simulation data.

A Study on the Design of Meander Slot Antenna for the Zigbee Module and Improvement of Its Return Loss (지그비 모듈용 미앤더 슬롯 안테나 설계 및 반사손실 개선에 관한 연구)

  • In order to design small printed antenna restricted within narrow area of $30mm{\times}8mm$ for the Zigbee module and improve its return loss, meander slot antenna with a floating conductor as the parastic element has been proposed. The resonant frequency and bandwidth(VSWR${\leq}$2) of the antenna designed and fabricated in the present study is about 2.44GHz and 113MHz respectively. The radiation pattern is almost similar to that of dipole antenna within the operation frequency range. Also the radiation efficiency and gain of the proposed antenna is more than 60% and 2.7dBi respectively. It has been observed that the characteristics the proposed antenna mentioned above satisfy the specification required of the Zigbee application. In order to validate the proposed antenna, some simulated and measured results are presented and compared.

A Study on Bandwidth Broadening of U-slot Microstrip Patch Antenna Design with L-Shaped Inset-Feed Structure (L자형 Inset 급전구조를 갖는 U슬롯 마이크로스트립 패치 안테나의 광대역화에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, we tried to find the correlation of the parameters and dual resonance of U-slot microstrip patch antenna with L-shaped Inset-feed structure and design broadband antenna using them. In the first step, we classified cases where dual resonance occurs through changes in antenna parameters that affect antenna performance. In the second step, we correlated each antenna parameter to the location and intensity of the resonance point, and 3 dB bandwidth. Next, antenna simulation confirmed the process of designing to have wide bandwidth using the correlation in the second step previously presented in the U-slot antenna case with narrow bandwidth. Finally, we fabricated a designed antenna and demonstrated the validity of antenna bandwidth broadening through the correlation analysis.
