  • The study investigates how two different methods of peer tutoring impact academic achievement and student affect in a high school mathematics class. The two methods include the one-on-one non-reciprocal peer tutoring and the one-on-four interactive peer-tutoring method. We looked into students' cognitive gains and their affect toward mathematics after students had experienced peer tutoring for six weeks. Further, we analyzed student responses in a survey about peer tutoring activities. A finding is that the two methods produced no statistically significant difference in both cognitive gains and student affect toward mathematics. As students expressed views about their peer tutoring experiences, their comments, however, revealed the multifaceted aspects of peer tutoring in the classroom setting. In turn, this supports the use of diverse peer tutoring methods especially when the teacher makes incremental changes in teaching practices to improve student learning. Findings also indicate that appropriate peer tutoring experiences have the potential to create intellectually safe learning environments with high student engagement. This underscores the benefit of designing and implementing diverse peer tutoring methods that are effective in engaging students in learning and increasing the opportunity to learn and create knowledge with peers.

  • In this study, I set the 5th grade children mathematically gifted in elementary school to pose freely the creative and difficult mathematical problems by using their knowledges and experiences they have learned till now. I wanted to find out that the math brains in elementary school 5th grade could posed mathematical problems to a certain levels and by the various and divergent thinking activities. Analyzing the mathematical problems of the mathematically gifted 5th grade children posed, I found out the math brains in 5th grade can create various and refined problems mathematically and also they did effort to make the mathematically good problems for various regions in curriculum. As these results, I could conclude that they have had the various and divergent thinking activities in posing those problems. It is a large goal for the children to bring up the creativities by the learning mathematics in the 2009 refined elementary mathematics curriculum. I emphasize that it is very important to learn and teach the mathematical problem posing to rear the various and divergent thinking powers in the school mathematics.

  • This study aims to develop a family math program that can be experienced by the families in accordance with the 2nd Mathematics Education Comprehensive Plan and to spread the positive attitude and perception of mathematics to the people by applying the family math program for the family units. And this study aims to suggest some concrete ways to develop and apply family math sympathy programs. For this purpose, we developed over 24 activities for math tour, mathematical games, math activities, my home math, historical math, and e-world mathematics, which can be enjoyed by infants and students in the levels of elementary school and secondary school. And we applied these programs to 175 families eight times and surveyed them using a questionnaire. Based on the results, some implications related to the development and application of a family math sympathy program to disseminate a positive culture of mathematics were derived.

  • This study is a basic study to effectively develop a mathematics experience object, an important tool and educational tool in mathematics education. Recently, as mathematics education based on action theory is emphasized, various mathematics experience objects are being developed. It is also used through various after-school activities in the school. However, there are insufficient cases in which a mathematics experience teaching tools is developed and used as a tool for explaining mathematics concepts in mathematics classrooms. Also, the mathematical background of the mathematics experience teaching tools used by students is unclear. For this reason, the mathematical understanding of the toolst for mathematics experience is also very insufficient. Therefore, in this study, a development model is proposed as a systematic method for developing a mathematics experience teaching tools. Also, in this study, we developed 'the Great Common Divisor' mathematics experience teaching tool according to the development model. Through the model proposed through this study and the actual mathematics experience teaching tool, the development of various tools for mathematical experience will be practically implemented. In addition, it is expected that various tools for experiencing mathematics based on mathematical foundations will be developed.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate characteristics of mathematically gifted high school students' thinking in design activities using GrafEq. Eight mathematically gifted high school students, who already learned graphs of functions and inequalities necessary for design activities, were selected to work in pairs in our experiment. Results indicate that logical thinking and mathematical abstraction, intuitive and structural insights, flexible thinking, divergent thinking and originality, generalization and inductive reasoning emerged in the design activities. Nonetheless, fine-grained analysis of their mathematical activities also implies that teachers for gifted students need to emphasize both geometric and algebraic aspects of mathematical subjects, especially, algebraic expressions, and the tasks for the students are to be rich enough to provide a variety of ways to simplify the expressions.

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain a deeper understanding of didactic processing in the class that unified with engineering by analyzing on the types of the teacher's instumental orchestration and schematizing it as an activity system. In order to do so, a qualitative study of a 5th grade class for math-gifted students in Y elementary school with ethnography was conducted. Interviews with the students were held and various document data were collected during the participational observation of the class. The collected qualitative data were gone through the analytical induction while the instrumental orchestration of Drijvers, Boon, Doorman, Reed, & Gravemeijer as well as the secondgeneration activity theory of Engestrom were using as the frame of conceptional reference. According to the result of this study, there exist 4 types, such as 'technical demo' 'link screen board', 'detection-exploring small group' and 'explain the screen and technical demo'.

  • This study investigated the learning process of Chines international student within a technology environment, who was studying in Korea to be well equipped as a math teacher in future. Her activities were observed and guided in a class for pre-service teachers in one university, Kyunggido, in the second semester of 2014. She experienced obstacles such as the lacks of comprehending Korean sentences, Korean math terminologies, mathematical concepts, and fidelities of technology in her learning. She was recovered by bilingual effect, visualization activities, repetition activities, and group activities. There was a learning helper who made her learning possible in a bilingual way. Thus, the bilingual education is crucial for students with multi-cultural background.
