  • It is necessary to realize in advance the lessons and knowhow about how to live, which humankind have developed, through learning to decrease the number of trial and error in our first trip to life. The big problem that present mathematical education is faced with is just only to place much importance on doing microscopic research ignoring macroscopic perspective, which results in the ineffectiveness of mathematics for contributing to life. The purpose of present study is to examine the way of living, classify methods of gaining an insight into life using macroscopic perspective, and develop a life model which can suggest a way of gaining an insight into life from external perspective. Also, this study explores a way of building a creative mathematical model for effective insight about life.

Prediction of Charge/Discharge Behaviors and Aging of the VRLA Battery (VRLA 배터리의 충/방전 거동과 노화 예측 모델링)

  • In this work, Mathematical modeling was carried-out to predict the charging/discharging characteristics of VRLA (Valve regulated lead acid) battery, which is mainly used as a 12 V lead acid battery for automobile. And It also carried-out how it's characteristics would be changed due to aging. A mathematical modeling technique, which has been mainly used to predict behavior of Lithium-ion batteries, is applied to commercial 70 Ah VRLA battery. The modeling result of Voltage was compared with result of constant current charge / discharge test. From this, it can be seen that the NTGK model can be applied to the lead acid battery with high accuracy. It was also found that the aging of lead-acid battery can be predicted by using it.

  • This research is an analysis of communication that occurs during the quadratic function teaching and learning process of middle school students, which reflects mathematical modeling. For an in-depth analysis of the communication, Sfard(2008)'s discourse theory and language analysis framework were applied. A quadratic function mathematical modeling teaching and learning were conducted for the week second (1 hour) in June 2019 for students who studied the concept of a quadratic function and who passed a specified period (3 months). The results are as follows. First, The commo-gnitive conflict occurred because of differences in prior knowledge other than quadratic function among students. Second, in the course of communication, knowledge was expanded through problem-solving from different perspectives. These results can be interpreted as allowing students to clearly reveal problems in the communication process based on their understanding of the concept of quadratic functions and to facilitate cooperation among students. of the concept of quadratic functions and to facilitate cooperation among students.

  • There have been raised the question that students have been of no interst in mathematcs and incompetent for solving real world problem because students have been recognized mathematcs as abstract knowldege. We research whether students' modeles developed in modeling activity can mediate between concrete and abstract. The analysis of our case study revealed that students' modeles aren't decontextualized abstraction but is located in situated abstraction that is a network connecting between concrete and abstract. Thus, these modeles are a tool mediating between concrete and abstract. Also, students' modeling activities can provide students with the opportunity of being competent for solving real world problem.

Effects of the Mathematical Modeling Learning on the Word Problem Solving (수학적 모델링 학습이 문장제 해결에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of two teaching methods of word problems, one based on mathematical modeling learning(ML) and the other on traditional learning(TL). Additionally, the influence of mathematical modeling learning in word problem solving behavior, application ability of real world experiences in word problem solving and the beliefs of word problem solving will be examined. The results of this study were as follows: First, as to word problem solving behavior, there was a significant difference between the two groups. This mean that the ML was effective for word problem solving behavior. Second, all of the students in the ML group and the TL group had a strong tendency to exclude real world knowledge and sense-making when solving word problems during the pre-test. but A significant difference appeared between the two groups during post-test. classroom culture improvement efforts. Third, mathematical modeling learning(ML) was effective for improvement of traditional beliefs about word problems. Fourth, mathematical modeling learning(ML) exerted more influence on mathematically strong and average students and a positive effect to mathematically weak students. High and average-level students tended to benefit from mathematical modeling learning(ML) more than their low-level peers. This difference was caused by less involvement from low-level students in group assignments and whole-class discussions. While using the mathematical modeling learning method, elementary students were able to build various models about problem situations, justify, and elaborate models by discussions and comparisons from each other. This proves that elementary students could participate in mathematical modeling activities via word problems, it results form the use of more authentic tasks, small group activities and whole-class discussions, exclusion of teacher's direct intervention, and classroom culture improvement efforts. The conclusions drawn from the results obtained in this study are as follows: First, mathematical modeling learning(ML) can become an effective method, guiding word problem solving behavior from the direct translation approach(DTA) based on numbers and key words without understanding about problem situations to the meaningful based approach(MBA) building rich models for problem situations. Second, mathematical modeling learning(ML) will contribute attitudes considering real world situations in solving word problems. Mathematical modeling activities for word problems can help elementary students to understand relations between word problems and the real world. It will be also help them to develop the ability to look at the real world mathematically. Third, mathematical modeling learning(ML) will contribute to the development of positive beliefs for mathematics and word problem solving. Word problem teaching focused on just mathematical operations can't develop proper beliefs for mathematics and word problem solving. Mathematical modeling learning(ML) for word problems provide elementary students the opportunity to understand the real world mathematically, and it increases students' modeling abilities. Futhermore, it is a very useful method of reforming the current problems of word problem teaching and learning. Therefore, word problems in school mathematics should be replaced by more authentic ones and modeling activities should be introduced early in elementary school eduction, which would help change the perceptions about word problem teaching.

  • 본 논문에서는 원형구조의 전파환경을 위한 경로손실을 다각형모델링과 수학적 모델링을 통해 분석하였다. 원형의 통신환경은 비교적 좁은 반경에 곡률이 거의 없고, 내부는 공기저항을 고려한 감압상태로 Ray-tracing 기법은 원형이라는 구조적 특징을 완벽히 적용하는데 문제가 있기 때문에 원에 가까운 다각형을 모델링하였다. 다각형 모델링 방법와 수학적 방법의 전파손실분석결과 반사횟수와 관계없이 유사한 전파손실성능을 확인하였다. 본 논문은 무선을 이용한 튜브 즉, 원형의 철도운영환경도 고려되고 있는 시점에서, 기존의 철도환경과 다른 환경에 대한 무선환경분석을 위한 기초자료로 사용될 수 있을 것이다.

Comparison of Industrial Mathematics Issues between Korea and the US Using Topic Modeling (토픽모델링을 활용한 한국과 미국의 산업수학 이슈 비교)

  • This study explored the issues of industrial mathematics in online news articles and online forums in Korea and the US by using text mining and compared the results. Text data about industrial mathematics were collected from news articles of Naver, a major portal site, and postings and replies on Clien as resources of Korea, and from news articles by the New York Times and CNN as well as postings and replies on Reddit as resources of the US. Structural topic modeling analyses were performed, the major results of which were as follows. First, news articles in Korea mainly dealt with the necessity of industrial mathematics and government support. On the contrary, the news articles in the US focused more on various fields where industrial mathematics fields were utilized. Second, in Korea, the same number of issues with different topics were discussed in news articles and online forums, whereas in the US more issues were covered in news articles than in online forums. It was suggested academic implications for researchers and practical implications for the government for settling industrial mathematics in Korea.

  • 최근 다양한 시스템의 상태를 추정하는데 시스템의 운동 특성을 모델링하는 기법이 많이 연구되고 있다. 이 기법은 시스템의 운동 특성을 수학적으로 모델링하는 것으로 모델링의 정확도에 따라 시스템의 상태 추정 정확도에 많은 영향을 미치게 된다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 표적의 기동 특성을 모델링하고 표적의 현재와 과거의 상태를 이용하여 정의된 기동 모델 중 적합성을 판단하는 기법을 제시하며 시뮬레이션을 통하여 기동하는 표적의 모델을 정확하게 판단하는지를 검증하고자 한다.

  • 컴퓨터 그래픽스를 이용하여 3차원 물체를 모델링하는 방법은 그 이론적 배경에서 크게 두 가지로 나뉘는데, 직선들과 삼각형 혹은 사각형들을 연결하는 폴리곤 모델링 방법과 NURBS(Non Uniform Ra-tional B-splines)라는 수학적으로 정의된 곡선 혹은 곡면을 이용하는 방법이 있다. 본 고는 이미 상용화되어 사용되고 있는 몇 가지 3차원 모델링 소프트웨어들의 기능 중에서 NURBS 모델링 기능을 살펴보고 이를 비교.분석해 본다.
