  • The purpose of this study was to examine the curricula for mathematically gifted focused on contents and graded sequences of those. Three cases of the curricula for the mathematically gifted including teachers' lesson plans and activity sheets for students were collected from gifted education institutes attached the Metropolitan Office of Education. By qualitative analysis, three cases are compared. The first, in a view of educational contents on mathematics, characteristics of the educational programs were investigated. The second, how these contents were arranged according to grades was inquired. On the basis of the results, further studies can be proposed as follows. First, there is a need to study the criteria for setting the educational contents and the sequences of education for the mathematically gifted connecting elementary mathematics education curricula. Second, it is necessary to form the networks in which can allow communication among teachers and researchers for the mathematically gifted.

  • This article is a review report on the middle school mathematics textbooks, based on "2015 Revision of National Curriculum". Considering future textbooks, this report is to keep a record of the review. In this report, I mainly discuss the mathematical aspects (but not educational or pedagogical aspects) of the textbooks. I sincerely hope that the content of this article is to be discussed and examined further by the society of mathematics education and the society of mathematics.

  • Since textbooks are developed according to the curriculum, it might be said that the terms registered in curriculum can serve as guidelines for terms used in textbooks. But it really is not. In this study, so that terms registered in curriculum can serve as guidelines for terms used in textbooks, inconsistencies between them would be found out and improved. To this end, suitability of selecting and using terms are discussed, focusing on terms registered in curriculum and terms used in textbooks. In fact, there are significant differences between the terms registered in curriculum and the terms in textbooks, because there is not any criteria in selecting and using terms. In this study the five criteria with respect to registering terms in curriculum are proposed. Everyday language should not be registered. Naturalized terms should not be registered. Terms used in only elementary mathematics, but are already well-established should be registered. Same term used in diverse context should be registered only once. Terms which can be used without definition should be designated. Three criteria in regard to using terms in textbooks are proposed. Terms registered in curriculum must be used. Same term used in diverse context should be redefined in every context. Terms that are not certified and are not absolutely necessary must not be used.

  • Curricular noticing is about how teachers understand the content and pedagogical opportunities inherent in curriculum materials. Since the enacted curriculum differs depending on which aspect of the curriculum material is paid attention to and how to interpret it, it is necessary to focus on Curricular Attending and Curricular Interpreting in Curricular Noticing for enhancing the teaching expertise of preservice teachers. First, this study categorized the objects that preservice elementary mathematics teachers attended when planning the lesson for rate. Second, in order to find out the reason for paying attention to those objects, it was analyzed what factors were related to interpret. By discussing the results, implications were drawn on how to use Curricular Noticing in preservice teacher education to enhance the pedagogical design competency of preservice elementary mathematics teachers.

  • This study intends to examine the characteristics of Korean students' mathematics achievement according to the TIMSS-R International Benchmarks in the relation with mathematics curriculum and text. The concrete contents of this study are as followings. First, we consider the Korean students' mathematical abilities according to the TIMSS-R international benchmarks classified into Top 10% Benchmark, Upper Quarter Benchmark, Median Benchmark, and Lower Quarter Benchmark. Second, we examine the precent correct and the error-types of Korean students on the anchor items of such benchmarks. From these examinations, we grasp the mathematical titles that Korean students showed insufficient performance and lead the educational implications.

  • The objective of this study is to develop university-level program(UP) 'Statistics Curriculum'. The UP program is a Korean curriculum sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Technology, which offers standardized courses to high school students that are generally recognized to be equivalent to undergraduate courses in college. In this paper we analyze that various programs are being conducted currently in Korea and overseas related with University-level Program in mathematics. And we describe course of the study, mathematical objectives of developed statistics curriculum on the study.

  • Mathematics curriculum according to 2009 Revised National Curriculum suggests that school mathematics must cultivate interest and curiosity about mathematics in addition to creative thinking ability of students, and ability and attitude of observing and analyzing many things happening around. Centroid of a triangle in 2007 Revised National Curriculum is defined as 'an intersection point of three median lines of a triangle' and it has been instructed focusing on proof study that uses characteristic of parallel lines and similarity of a triangle. This could not teach by focusing on the centroid itself and there is a problem of planting a miss concept to students. And therefore this writing suggests centroid must be taught according to its essence that centroid is 'a dot that forms equilibrium', and a justification method about this could be different.

  • The study aims to compare our newest mathematics curriculum with Singapore's and analyse the differences of them. Because the levels of our mathematics education have been evaluated to be difficult to our students, we try to find that the evaluation is appropriate and there are other characteristics we have to notice carefully, and provide some implications for our mathematics curriculum. We mainly compared both mathematics curriculums focussed on the national documents of mathematics curriculum, and textbooks in the level of middle school. The results are following. Firstly, Singapore has three tracks based on students' abilities and there are three kinds of textbooks on the tracks. This is a different from our teaching on students level. Secondly, the introductions of our mathematics curriculum contents are not faster than Singapore's, but they have more concrete ranges of contents than us. Thirdly, the focus of Singapore's mathematics education lies on problem solving, and we can find some good examples of contents of textbook focussed on problem solving. Some mathematical concepts are introduced simply without any process of students discoveries or investigations, and the focus lies on the problem solving using the concepts. Fourthly, Singapore's mathematics textbooks are more emphasis on the internal connections than ours.
