  • The purpose of this study is to improve the standards for the animation education in '2011 Arts and Culture Education Standards: Cartoon and Animation'. Animation Education Standards has been developed by discussion about Arts and Culture Education, and by study of documents about animation, and by investigation about experimental recognition. And the study of domestic and foreign art education standards are reflected in these standards. These standards consist of seven categories reflecting various aspects of animation and each category is classified into five stages by age. This standard has two axes: seven categories by various aspects of animation and five stages by age, and it represents achievement requirement in animation learning. This study suggests that 'Animation Education Standards' has five features as below. First, it reflects the character of Animation as an independent subject. Second, it is studied on the basis of the framework of arts and culture education. Third, it provides basic achievement requirement, and it has no limitation in learning activities. Fourth, the achievement requirements of two or more categories can be applied simultaneously in real classroom; each category is set by themes of animation education. This study presents five methods to improve existing standard. First, independent standard for animation education must be developed. Second, categories must be established distinctly. Third, each categories and achievement requirement must reflect unique characteristic of animation. Fourth, the description of achievement requires must be systemized. Fifth, to help to adapt education standard, explanation about practical teaching and learning activities must be added. '2011 Art and Culture Education Standards: Cartoon and Animation' is important in that it is the first study that systemized animation education and presented pedagogical achievement requirements by suggesting achievement requirements for animation education by two axes -ages and categories. It will be very helpful in studying the animation education as a subject, and developing education programs, and teaching and learning in an actual class.

  • As interest in artificial intelligence increases, each university has been establishing a special graduate school with artificial intelligence major, and recently, the Korea government has established various support policies for artificial intelligence education. However, each university has a lot of difficulties because it has little experience in operating graduate education with the latest field of artificial intelligence and it is not easy to find experts. In this study, the response of graduate school students majoring in artificial intelligence was analyzed using IPA technique, and the direction of education of graduate school artificial intelligence major was searched. Among the 40 items surveyed by IPA, 12 items such as systematization of artificial intelligence curriculum, progress of class considering learning level, improvement of academic relations with guidance professors were extracted as items to be improved first. On the other hand, 8 items such as assistant capacity, and relationship with colleagues were overloaded, and twelve items such as instructor's lecture competency, appropriateness of educational contents, learner's artificial intelligence skills and knowledge, and attitude acquisition were to be maintained. In addition, eight items such as convergence education curriculum and diversity of education methods were all low in importance and performance. It is suggested that AI graduate school should be divided into two tracks(technical specialization, convergence expansion) by educational goal, and each track should be conducted by level-specific educational contents and methods suitable for student level. The curriculum should be elaborate and systematic to acquire AI knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and should have an individualized guidance system centered on excellent faculty members.

  • Mathematical tasks in general introduce and deal with real-life situations, and they derive to students' thinking fluently in solving the given tasks. The tasks might be considered as an important and significant factor to lead a successful mathematical teaching and learning situation. MiC Textbook is a representative one showing such good examples and tasks. This study explores concretely and in detail the cognitive demand level of mathematical tasks, by the subject of MiC Textbook. To accomplish this, this study is to reconstruct more elaborately the analysis framework developed by Hwang and Park in 2013. The framework basically was set up utilizing 'the cognitive demand level' suggested by Stein, et, al. The cognitive demand level is divided into two levels such as low level and high level. The low level is comprized of two elements such as Memorization Tasks(MT), Procedures Without Connections Tasks(PNCT), and high level is Procedures With Connections Tasks(PWCT), and Doing Mathematics Tasks(DMT). This study deals with the tasks on the area of 'data analysis and statistics' in MiC 1, 2, 3 level Textbook. As a result, mathematical tasks of MiC Textbook led learners to deal with and understand mathematical content for themselves, and furthermore to do leading roles for checking and reinforcing the content. Also, mathematical tasks of MiC Textbook are comprized of the tasks suitable to enhance mathematical thinking ability through communication. In addition, mathematical tasks of MiC Textbook tend to offer more learning opportunity to learners' themselves while the level of MiC Textbook is going up.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the recognition of middle school students on 'Thinking Science' activities and the influence on the understanding of the gas particles behavior concepts. For this study 125 students of four classes first grade in middle school were divided into two groups, the experimental and the control group. The SRT II test was carried out to identify the cognitive level of the students. The logical factors, needed to understand of the gas particles behavior concepts, were extracted. And the 9 'Thinking Science' activities designed to develop these factors were chosen and then implemented to the students of the experimental group. After the lesson for the gas particles behaviors, the achievement test of understanding of the gas particles behavior concepts and the survey of the students' recognition on 'Thinking Science' activities were administered. According to the results of the achievement test, there was not significant difference between the two groups on the whole. But only mature concrete operational students in the experimental group got high scores than those in the control group in analyzing the effect size. According to the results of the ANCOVA analysis, there was significant difference between the two girls' group. When students in the experimental group had a positive perceptions about 'Thinking Science' activities, they got higher achievement scores. This implied that there was a correlation between perception about 'Thinking Science' activities and their achievement in the gas particles behavior concepts. Especially, students with positive perception in mature concrete operational period got higher scores in science achievement. After the 'Thinking Science' activities, there was a high perceptions about improving in scientific thinking.

  • Currently, most of the science and engineering students who enter the university are required to take general chemistry and general chemistry experimental subjects. However they have different learning bases about learning basic science subjects. Regarding college entrance examinations, the current system is used for selection, so they have different levels of basic knowledge. But, without considering this situation, all of the students in science and engineering are participating in the same basic science class, some learners are relatively easy to adapt to learning, while others experience extreme difficulties and suddenly give up. This is true. The purpose of this study is to develop a scale to measure the ability to learn general chemistry of freshmen in science and engineering at H University in the Seoul Metropolitan area and to analyze what kind of learning backgrounds are related to learners. The results show that gender and major are not related to general chemistry learning major, and it we found that there is a close relationship to the relationship between their major and chemistry, the level of the chemistry learning in the high school, and the selection of chemistry in college entrance examinations. In addition, it was found that the degree of feeling that pre-learning is beneficial to current learning and that it is common with current learning is also a factor related to general chemistry learning aptitude. Therefore, in this study, we propose two ways of presenting and promoting a guide for learning by majors, and establishing a step-by-step learning system considering the level of students.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze Korean middle school student achievement in environmental science based on the TIMSS 2003 (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), a student comparison of 46 participating nations. Korea ranked the fourth with a mean score of 554 in environmental science. However, all 3 environment science topics assessed in TIMSS are not included in the Korean science curriculum through 8th grade, even though they are included in most other participating nations' curricula. The average percent correct of items was analyzed according to the main topic, the item type and the cognitive domain. Items that showed differences between the average percent correct of Korea and the international average as well as differences between the average percent correct of boys and girls were further analyzed. Results revealed that Korean students performed better than the international average, especially in 'use and conservation of natural resources', multiple-choice items, and items requiring 'factual knowledge'. Also, male students demonstrated significantly higher achievement than female students. On the other hand, Korean students showed relatively lower achievement in constructed-response items, items that contained content they had not learned in science lessons and items requiring descriptions of the uses and effect of science and technology. Moreover, Korean student lacked understanding about acid rain, global warming, and ozone layer destruction. Korean female students showed relatively lower environmental conceptions and lower performance on items requiring data analysis than Korean male students. On the basis of these results, this study suggested that topics of environmental science be included in the science curriculum and taught in the science classroom to help middle school students more fully comprehend environmental issues.
