  • This study aimed to examine the effect of management by objectives(MBO) and job commitment on the nursing performance of operating room(OR) nurses. The study was conducted on 226 OR nurses from tertiary healthcare institutions in Seoul. Multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of OR nurses on nursing performance. In results, the factors that affect the nursing performance of OR nurses included the concreteness of goals, job commitment, and measurability of objectives in that order, and these variables explained 25.9% of the nursing performance. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of the nursing work, it is necessary to make efforts to create a work environment where nursing can be carried out due to the nature of the nursing operation. In addition, it is essential to develop a strategy to further the influence of the concreteness and measurability of goals among other attributes, thereby enhancing the job performance of OR nurses.

  • This study aims to survey patients who underwent a heart valve so as to define their self-care Agency and quality of life, as well as the effect of their self-care Agency on their quality of life. One hundred ten outpatients in two university hospitals in the City of D were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The findings of this study revealed that for the life quality of patients with a surgery of heart valve, out of a total of 4.0 points, self-care Agency was an average 2.71 points, while life quality was an average 2.96 points, showing not so high scores. Also, it was also found that the higher the physical skills of patients with a surgery of heart valve (${\beta}$=.625, p<.001) were, the higher the quality of their life was. In conclusion, self-care Agency was confirmed as a determinant of the life quality of patients with a surgery of heart valve, and it was found that the higher the self-care Agency of patients with a surgery of heart valve, the higher their life quality was. Thus, in order to enhance the self-care Agency of patients with a surgery of heart valve, nursing assessment of their physical, psychological and mental areas, as well as corresponding appropriate nursing interventions need to be developed.

  • This study aimed to examine the effect of selected factors on confidence in nursing performance among new operating room nurses, with a focus on the mediating effect of learning flow. Data was collected from July to August 2019 using structured questionnaires. The participants were 250 new operating room nurses from university hospitals located in Incheon and Gyeonggi. The collected data was analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 and AMOS 24.0. Structural equation modeling was performed to examine the effect of the selected factors namely web-based video programs on confidence in nursing performance, and the mediating effect of learning flow. Results: The factors of 'hygiene & safety' and 'patient care' from the web-based video programs had a positive effect on the learning flow. The higher the learning flow of the nurses, the greater their confidence in nursing performance. Just the 'hygiene & safety' factor significantly increased nursing performance. Conclusion: The study results suggest that new nurses perceive that 'hygiene & safety' is an important factor in building their confidence in nursing performance, even without the learning flow. Therefore, it is necessary to develop web-based video programs based on nurses' needs and to emphasize the importance of postoperative care.

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of simulation education integrated with problem based learning (SIM-PBL) on clinical competency and self-efficacy in post operation nursing care for children. Methods: This study was a quasi-experimental design. Thirty six students in the third year of a 4-year baccalaureate nursing program were recruited conveniently and assigned to the control or intervention groups using time difference. Students were all in a pediatric nursing clinical practicum. The control group received the regular clinical practicum in a hospital setting. For the intervention group, a SIM-PBL education replaced 150 minutes of their clinical practicum. Results: The intervention group showed greater improvement in two areas of clinical competency compared with the control group; physical assessment (t= 3.019, p=.005) and post operation advice (t=2.428, p=.021). However, no statistically significant differences in improvement in any areas of self-efficacy were found between two groups. Conclusion: The results indicate that the SIM-PBL education is effective in improving some areas of clinical competence, but not self-efficacy in post operation nursing care for children. Further study is needed to develop SIM-PBL programs for various clinical topics and evaluate the effectiveness on the learning outcomes.
