  • Compressive sensing allows recovering an original signal which has a small dimension of the signal compared to the dimension of the entire signal in a short period of time through a small number of observations. In this paper, we proposed a method for detecting tonal signal which caused by the machinery component of a vessel such as an engine, gearbox, and support elements. The tonal signal can be modeled as the sparse signal in the frequency domain when it compares to whole spectrum range. Thus, the target tonal signal can be estimated by S-OMP (Simultaneous-Orthogonal Matching Pursuit) which is one of the sparse signal recovery algorithms. In simulation section, we showed that S-OMP algorithm estimated more precise frequencies than the conventional FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) thresholding algorithm in low SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) region.

  • Underwater noise radiated from submarines is directly related to the probability of being detected by the sonar of an enemy vessel. Therefore, minimizing the noise of a submarine is essential for improving survival outcomes. For modern submarines, as the speed and size of a submarine increase and noise reduction technology is developed, interest in flow noise around the hull has been increasing. In this study, a noise analysis technique was developed to predict flow noise generated around a submarine shape considering the free surface effect. When a submarine is operated near a free surface, turbulence-induced noise due to the turbulence of the flow and bubble noise from breaking waves arise. First, to analyze the flow around a submarine, VOF-based incompressible two-phase flow analysis was performed to derive flow field data and the shape of the free surface around the submarine. Turbulence-induced noise was analyzed by applying permeable FW-H, which is an acoustic analogy technique. Bubble noise was derived through a noise model for breaking waves based on the turbulent kinetic energy distribution results obtained from the CFD results. The analysis method developed was verified by comparison with experimental results for a submarine model measured in a Large Cavitation Tunnel (LCT).

  • Passive sonar systems detect and classify the target by analyzing the radiated noises from vessels. If multiple noise sources exist within the sonar detection range, it gets difficult to classify each noise source because mixture of noise sources are observed. To overcome this problem, a beamforming technique is used to separate noise sources spatially though it has various limitations. In this paper, we propose a new method that uses a FDICA (Frequency Domain Independent Component Analysis) to separate noise sources from the mixture. For experiments, each noise source signal was synthesized by considering the features such as machinery tonal components and propeller tonal components. And the results of before and after separation were compared by using LOFAR (Low Frequency Analysis and Recording), DEMON (Detection Envelope Modulation On Noise) analysis.

  • In the case of elevated railway station in which railway is connected with superstructure of station, vibration and noise level is relatively higher than those of general structure type station due to structural characteristic which transmits vibration directly. Therefore, characteristic understanding of structural vibration and accompanying structure cause noise and establishment of reduction plan through the results are in need. Test and analysis are performed in this research to consider correlativity between structural vibration and accompanying structure cause noise when external forces are applied on standard slab and floating slab which is able to isolate vibration. By producing and loading on standard and floating slab, vibration and noise response are measured while simulation using numerical analysis, finite element method and SEA method is performed. The results about structural dynamic behavior of slab, correlativity between structural vibration and noise, reduction performance of floating slab is deduced through the analysis of tests.

  • Urban air mobility (UAM) is being developed as part of the next-generation aircraft, which could be a viable solution to entrenched problems of urban traffic congestion and environmental pollution. A new airport platform called vertiport as a space where UAM can take off and land vertically is also being introduced. Noise regulations for UAM will be strict due to its operation in a highly populated urban area. Ground effects caused by vertiport can directly affect aerodynamic forces and noise characteristics of UAM. In this study, ground effects of vertiport on aerodynamic loads, vorticity field, and far-field noise were analyzed using Lattice-Boltzmann Method (LBM) simulation and Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) acoustic analogy with a permeable surface method.

  • Low frequency noise emitted by wind turbines is one of the most noise complaints. In this study, the reliability of the models was examined by comparing the measured sound pressure levels with the predicted levels based on Denish model and commercial programs of the SounPLAN and the ENPro based on ISO 9613. As a result of applying it to representative 3 MW wind turbines, on lnad, the measured and the predicted values differed within a maximum of 5 dB in the frequency range of 12.5 Hz to 80 Hz. It may be due to the change in the acoustic power levels because the wind turbines have been in operation for more than 7 years. However, considering that the Boundary Element Method (BEM) predicted value, which is known to be the most accurate in the low frequency band, the predicted values are well matched within 2.5 dB, the models of this study are expected to be used as deviation within 3 dB.

  • As ships become faster, larger and are required to meet higher standards, the importance of flow noise is highlighted. However, unlike in the aeroacoustics field for airplanes and trains (where flow noise is considered in design), acoustics are not considered in the marine field. In this study, analysis procedures for hull-induced flow noise are established to investigate the flow noise characteristics of a wave-piercing hull form that can negate the effect of wave-breaking. The principal mechanisms behind hull-induced flow noise are fluid-structure interactions between complex flows underneath the turbulent boundary layer and the hull. Noise induced by the turbulent boundary layer was calculated using wall pressure fluctuation and energy flow analysis methods. The results obtained show that noise characteristics can be distinguished by frequency range and hull region. Also, the low-frequency range is affected by hull forms such that it is correlated with ship speed.

  • This paper describes Active Noise Cancellation/Control(ANC) method that removes the information of the unnecessary noise and doesn't remove the informations of the necessary noise(warning sound, operating sound etc.) for the induced noise of the mechanical system. In this paper, the noise source Is axial fan, and the Feedback Active Noise control method that can effectively control BPF generated from the axial fan is used, and the Filtered-X LMS algorithm for adaptive algorithms is used. The experiments are executed for two case(propagating noise in the duct, emission noise for exterior free field). The part to be removed is BPF noise, and the band-pass filter not to effect to the other frequencies is used. Also, to investigate the effect of the noise reduction for human, we are compared with the results that are controlled for using Loudness before and after. As a results, we are certified that the BPF is decreased only and frequencies outside of BPF are not affected, and we acquire the reduction effects of 6.7 dB Loudness Level, then the frequency to be removed is controlled. Therefore, we can be certified that sound pressure as well as loudness can be effectively decreased for human sound quality

  • The general approach using sine series expansions was represented to evaluate the radiation loading from a vibrating surface on a simply supported cylinder. In this paper, the fluid-loading coefficients (radiation impedance) for a submerged finite cylindrical shell with an arbitrary end condition are defined and evaluated. The vibrations of cylindrical shell are expressed by using cosine series expansions to analyze the radiation impedance for a finite cylindrical shell. It is possible to represent the displacements at both ends of cylindrical shell in comparison with sine series. The direct and cross modal components of fluid-loading coefficients are shown and the validity of cosine series expansions are verified from the results of numerical computations. This approach and results are directly applicable in the analysis of sound radiation from subemerged finite cylindrical shell with arbitrary end conditions.
