Design of Low Power 4th order ΣΔ Modulator with Single Reconfigurable Amplifier (재구성가능 연산증폭기를 사용한 저전력 4차 델타-시그마 변조기 설계)

  • In this paper, a low power 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with a high resolution of 12 bits or more for the biological signal processing. Using time-interleaving technique, 4th order delta-sigma modulator was designed with one operational amplifier. So power consumption can be reduced to 1/4 than a conventional structure. To operate stably in the big difference between the two capacitor for kT/C noise and chip size, the variable-stage amplifier was designed. In the first phase and second phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 2-stage. In the third and fourth phase, the operational amplifier is operating in a 1-stage. This was significantly improved the stability of the modulator because the phase margin exists within 60~90deg. The proposed delta-sigma modulator is designed in a standard $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS n-well 1 poly 6 Metal technology and dissipates the power of $354{\mu}W$ with supply voltage of 1.8V. The ENOB of 11.8bit and SNDR of 72.8dB at 250Hz input frequency and 256kHz sampling frequency. From measurement results FOM1 is calculated to 49.6pJ/step and FOM2 is calculated to 154.5dB.

Soil Physical Properties and Traction Characteristics of Non-tilled Paddy Field (경운 작업 전 논토양의 물리성 및 견인력 특성)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the soil physical properties and the traction characteristics of paddy field before tillage by a computer simulation. Soil physical properties, such as soil moisture content, bulk density, soil hardness, and soil texture were measured in the twelve rice production area. Mathematical model based on dimensional analysis which include soil physical properties and vehicle factors was used for the computer simulation. Most of the soil texture of the investigated area was silty loam, loam and silty clay loam. Soil moisture content ranged between 20 and 40% mostly. Soil bulk density was in the range of 1,500 to $1,700kg\;m^{-3}$. Soil hardness ranged between 2 to $12kg\;cm^{-2}$ mostly. Soil hardness incorporates the effects of many soil physical properties such as moisture content, texture and bulk density, and so the range of soil hardness was greater than that of any other physical properties. The predicted net traction was in the range of 70 to 1,500 kgf depending on the area, but it was above 1,000 kgf for most of the investigated area. Thus it was concluded that 50 HP tractor can pull the four row moldboard plow considering the conventional tillage depth and width. But for the soft soil area such as Andong and Namyang, tractor itself may have mobility problem and show high slip during plowing operation.

W-band Single-chip Receiver MMIC for FMCW Radar (FMCW 레이더용 W-대역 단일칩 수신기 MMIC)

  • In this paper, a W-band single-chip receiver MMIC for FMCW(Frequency-modulated continuous-wave) radar is presented using $0.15{\mu}m$ GaAs pHEMT technology. The receiver MMIC consists of a 4-stage low noise amplifier(LNA), a down-converting mixer and a 3-stage LO buffer amplifier. The LNA is designed to exhibit a low noise figure and high linearity. A resistive mixer is adopted as a down-converting mixer in order to obtain high linearity and low noise performance at low IF. An additional LO buffer amplifier is also demonstrated to reduce the required LO power of the W-band mixer. The fabricated W-band single-chip receiver MMIC shows an excellent performance such as a conversion gain of 6.2 dB, a noise figure of 5.0 dB and input 1-dB compression point($P_{1dB,in}$) of -12.8 dBm, at the RF frequency of $f_0$ GHz, LO input power of -1 dBm and IF frequency of 100 MHz.

Forecasting the Sea Surface Temperature in the Tropical Pacific by Neural Network Model (신경망 모델을 이용한 적도 태평양 표층 수온 예측)

  • One of the nonlinear statistical modelling, neural network method was applied to predict the Sea Surface Temperature Anomalies (SSTA) in the Nino regions, which represent El Nino indices. The data used as inputs in the training step of neural network model were the first seven empirical orthogonal functions in the tropical Pacific $(120^{\circ}\;E,\;20^{\circ}\;S-20^{\circ}\;N)$ obtained from the NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data. The period of 1951 to 1993 was adopted for the training of neural network model, and the period 1994 to 2003 for the forecasting validation. Forecasting results suggested that neural network models were resonable for SSTA forecasting until 9-month lead time. They also predicted greatly the development and decay of strong E1 Nino occurred in 1997-1998 years. Especially, Nino3 region appeared to be the best forecast region, while the forecast skills rapidly decreased since 9-month lead time. However, in the Nino1+2 region where they are relatively low by the influence of local effects, they did not decrease even after 9-month lead time.

Positioning Scheme Based on Iterative Path-Loss Exponent Estimation in WSNs (무선 센서 네트워크에서 반복적인 Path-Loss Exponent 추정을 통한 위치추정 기법)

  • In wireless sensor networks, the positioning scheme using received signal strength (RSS) has been widely considered. Appropriate estimation of path-loss exponent (PLE) between a sensor node and an anchor node plays a key role in reducing position error in this RSS-based positioning scheme. In the conventional researches, a sensor node directly uses the PLEs measured by its nearest anchor node to calculate its position. However, the actual PLE between a sensor node and the anchor node can be different from the PLE measured by its nearest anchor node. Thus, if a sensor node directly uses the PLEs measured by its nearest anchor node, the estimated position is different from the actual position of the sensor node with a high probability. In this paper, we describe the method how a sensor node estimates PLEs from the anchor nodes of interest by itself and calculates its position based on these self-estimated PLEs. Especially, our proposal suggests the mechanism to iteratively calculate the PLEs depending on the estimated distances between a sensor node and anchor nodes. Based on the recalculated PLEs, the sensor node reproduces its position. Through simulations, we show that our proposed positioning scheme outperforms the traditional scheme in terms of position error.

Evaluation of Binder jetting 3D Printed Specimens Using Vacuum Impregnation (진공함침을 적용한 바인더젯 3D 프린팅 출력물의 성능 평가)

  • This study examined the applicability of the vacuum impregnation post-processing to enhance the strength of binder jet 3D printed output. In addition, permeability, bulk density, and compressive strength of 10 mm, 20 mm, 30 mm, and 40 mm cubic specimens were examined to check the strength limit depending on the 3D prined output size. In result, as the maximum pressure increased, the post-processing storage solution permeated to the inside of the 3D printed sample and thus the permeation area ratio was improved. The compressive strength and the permeation area indicate the correlation between the exponential function of the adjusted R-square factor 0.992. In addition, the bulk density was increased, which can be inferred as the post-processing solution permeated to the inside. In conclusion, in order to enhance the compressive strength of the binder jet 3D printed output, it is essential to permeate the post-processing solution to the inside of the output, and vacuum impregnation can be proposed as an effective method.

  • In this paper, we proposed the method to detect brain tumor region in MR images. Our method is composed of 3 parts, detection of tumor slice, detection of tumor region and tumor boundary detection. In the tumor slice detection step, a slice which contains tumor regions is distinguished using symmetric analysis in 3D brain volume. The tumor region detection step is the process to segment the tumor region in the slice distinguished as a tumor slice. And tumor region is finally detected, using spatial feature and symmetric analysis based on the cluster information. The process for detecting tumor slice and tumor region have advantages which are robust for noise and requires less computational time, using the knowledge of the brain tumor and cluster-based on symmetric analysis. And we use the level set method with fast marching algorithm to detect the tumor boundary. It is performed to find the tumor boundary for all other slices using the initial seeds derived from the previous or later slice until the tumor region is vanished. It requires less computational time because every procedure is not performed for all slices.

Process Analysis on the Decontamination of Internal Surface of $UF_6$ Cylinder ($UF_6$ 실린더 내부표면 제염에 관한 공정분석)

  • To evaluate the efficiency of the decontamination plant for the removal of uranium compounds deposited on the internal surface of $UF_6$ cylinder for its reuse, two demonstration tests of the plant with different ratio of ${Na_2}{CO_3}$ and ${H_2}{O_2}$ were carried out, and each test had 5 steps. The main chemical form removed by the tests was to be identified as ${Na_4}{UO_2}(CO_3)_3$. More than 50% of uranium was removed by water of the first step, and at the following steps the removal amounts were exponentially decreased. On the other hand, the result shows that the injected amount of ${Na_2}{CO_3}$, compared with that of the removed uranium, was stoichiometrically excessed. This suggests that the injected amounts of ${Na_2}{CO_3}$, the generation rate of decontaminated waste, and the decontamination steps could be reduced by a process optimization of the plant.

  • Amorphous FeCoSiB films with high saturation magnetostriction and excellent soft magnetic properties have been studied to evaluate their strain sensitivity. Films were subjected to a strain by bending of their substrates, which caused a change in the magnetic anisotropy of films via magnetoelastic coupling. Films were exhibited a figure of merit $F=({\Delta}{\mu}/{\mu})/{\varepsilon}$ (change in film permeability $\mu$ per unit strain $\varepsilon$) of $1.2{\times}10^5$, which is comparable with that of amorphous ribbons. To make a study of application of magnetostrictive films as strain sensor elements, we have prepared a micro-patterned film by means of the photolithography and ion milling processes. Impedance change in the patterned films, when strain was applied, was measured over the frequency range from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. Reflecting a large value of figure of merit F, a variation of 46% impedance of films was shown at 100 MHz frequency when a strain of $300{\times}10^{-6}$ was applied.

  • This paper is concerned with an experimental research to random vibration control caused by external loads specially in bridges which tend to be structurally flexible. Experimenting on a reduced structure modelled on Seohae Grand Bridge, we inflicted a reduced form of El-centro wave on the model structure to a proper proportion. On the center of its middle span, we placed a shear type MR damper which was to control its vibration and also acquire its structural responses such as displacement and acceleration at the same site. The experiments concerning controlling vibration were performed according to a variety of theories including un-control, passive on/off control, and Lyapunov stability theory. Its control performance was evaluated in terms of the peak absolute displacements, the peak absolute accelerations and the total power required to control the bridge which differ from each different experiment method. Among all the methods applied in this paper, case of Lyapunov control method turned out to be the most effective to reduces of displacement and acceleration. Also, this method could to decrease consuming of external power for vibration control. Finally, it was noteworthy that Lyapunov control method was specially effective in the vibration control employing a semi-active damper such MR damper.
