  • In this study, improved test methods, which consider the real site test conditions, were suggested to measure for geosynthetics chemical resistance. For this purpose index and performance tests were done to specify and regulate the test method most approaching to the installation condition and accelerated model by Arrhenius equation was applied to interpretate the experimental data. Through the analysis and comparison of the overall experimental results, we could suggest the possibility and setup of the advanced chemical resistance test method for geosynthetics fitting to the field installation conditions.

Development of Disassembly Tool for Intermediate Examination of Nuclear Fuel Rods (핵연료봉 중간검사를 위한 장탈착 툴 개발)

  • To check the characteristics of nuclear fuels during an irradiation test, the nuclear fuel rod needs to be disassembled from the test rig located in the pool of the research reactor. Then, the disassembled fuel rod is delivered to the hot cell for intermediate examination. A fuel rod that passes the intermediate examination is delivered to the reactor pool to be reassembled into the test rig. The irradiation test is resumed with the reassembled test rig. Because nuclear fuel rods irradiated by neutrons are highly radioactive, all the disassembly and reassembly processes should be carried out in the pool of the research reactor to prevent operators being exposed to radiation. In particular, because a test rig is 5.4-m long and the reactor pool of HANARO is 6-m deep, special tools need to be developed for performing the disassembly and reassembly processes. In this study, a new assembly design of nuclear fuel rods for intermediate examination is introduced. Furthermore, tools for treating the irradiated fuel rod assembly are introduced, and their performance is verified by an out pile test.

A Study on the Development and the Verification Experiment of ECDA Equipment (외면부식직접평가 장비 개발 및 실증 시험에 관한 연구)

  • When the coatings of buried steel pipelines are damaged, corrosion could be occurred on the surface of the damaged areas. Moreover the pinhole occurred by corrosion of pipelines may cause accidents due to gas leakage. To prevent these accidents, foreign countries including UK and USA have carried out coating defect detection on the buried gas pipelines by using a DCVG or a ACVG and have conducted direct assessment of pipelines through digging the ground, and if necessary, have repaired the pipelines. That is called ECDA i.e External Corrosion Direct Assessment which is regulated by NACE standards(SP 0502) and etc. In Korea, the ECDA provisions were included in KGS FS551 in 2014 when the regulations of Safety Validation in Detail for the medium-pressure piping were introduced. We have developed the equipment which can be used to detect external corrosion of the buried gas pipelines. We have also constructed pipeline test bed for empirical test of the developed equipment. In addition, we have carried out the verification experiments of the developed equipment on the test bed to demonstrate the performance of the equipment. The experiments were conducted by comparison tests of the developed equipment and other equipments which have been introduced and used in Korea. As the result, we have found the developed equipment is easier to use and has far superior performance compared to other equipment being used in Korea.

  • VDES는 2015년 ITU-R M.2092-0가 발행된 이후로 다년간 기술 개발 및 개정 작업을 통해 2022년에 ITU-R M.2092-1이 발행되었다. 2026년 1월부터 VDES를 필수 규제 체계에 도입하기 위해 IMO는 2021년 MCS 103회의를 시작으로 NCSR 10에서 SOLAS 4장 및 5장의 수정안과 성능 기준 및 지침 개발을 논의하였고 24년 6월이면 작업이 완료될 것으로 예상된다. 자율운항선박 과제에서는 VDES를 이용하여 자율운항 선박의 안전관련 필수 정보들을 육상-선박 뿐만 아니라 선박-선박 연결에서도 데이터 교환을 할 수 있도록 VDES 시스템을 통신 방식 중 하나로 적용하여 개발하고 있으며 최신의 VDES 관련 표준을 유지할 수 있도록 지속적인 표준 분석 및 시스템 적용을 수행하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 VDES의 MAC 계층 설계를 위해 IEC에서 개발 중인 시험 표준을 분석하고 VDES 개발 시제에 적용하여 검증 및 평가를 수행하였다.

Experimental Study on Flexural Capacity of Circular Concrete Beam Confined by Carbon Fiber Tubes (탄소섬유관으로 구속된 무근 원형 보의 휨성능에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • Experiments for circular unreinforced concrete beams confined by carbon fiber tubes (CFT) made of carbon fiber sheets were performed. Selected test parameter was thickness of carbon fiber tube: 1.5mm (3 layers), 2.0mm (4 layers), 2.5mm (5 layers), and 3.0mm (6 layers). Based on the test results, an equation for estimating moment capacity of the circular beams confined by carbon fiber tubes was proposed. Comparison results showed good agreement up to 2.5mm (5 sheets) of the CFT thickness.

  • Internal flow field of supersonic nozzle with pintle, which control thrust of solid rocket motor, is very complicated by pintle tip shape and contour of nozzle. For studying of pintle nozzle performance by effects of internal flow field variation with pintle position, cold flow test and numerical analysis about needle type pintle shape were performed and results were presented in this paper.   • When a certain magnitude earthquake occurs, serious damage for human and properties is a major concern for most of the subway stations which were not applied for earthquake resistant design. Consideration and experimental verification for ground and structural behavior based on soil-structure interaction relation are required to evaluate seismic performance of the subway station as embedded structures. For 1/60 scaled subway station model, centrifuge modeling shaking table test is performed using Kobe and Northridge earthquakes. Compare to displacements and moments of the underground and structure obtained by soil response analysis and response displacement method based on experimental results, this paper shows how to evaluate seismic performance of subway station.

  • The sinus distal to the prosthetic heart valve influences the valve closure behavior and velocity field near the valve, therefore affects the hydrodynamic performance of the prosthetic heart valve. In order to study the effects of valve distal geometry on the hydrodynamic performance of the prosthetic valves, mechanical bileaflet valve(SJMV), monoleaflet polymer valve(MLPV) and trileaflet polymer valve(FTPV) are inserted in the test sections which have the straight and the sinus shape distal to the valve. Leakage volumes and systolic mean pressure drops are measured in the pulsatile mock circulation flow loop. Leakage volumes are slightly less and systolic mean pressure drops are higher in the sinus test section comparing to those in the straight test section, but the differences are statistically insignificant. Flow waveforms are analyzed in order to predict the valve closure behavior. The distal sinus does not affect the closure of the MLPV, but early valve closure of SJMV is observed in the sinus test section. This effect is more significant in FTPV, and the reverse flow peak of FTPV is reduced in the sinus test section. Therefore the sinus distal to the valve can reduce the reverse flow jet caused by sudden valve closure.

  • In this paper, during radio-frequency performance testing in a shield box, the non-uniform electric field distribution between multiple mobile phones is examined by numerical simulation, and two ways to improve the field uniformity among mobile phones under test are proposed. The results demonstrate that the proposed methods can greatly improve the field uniformity.
