Consumer Experience and Adoption Intention of Internet of Things Services: The Impact of Network Externalities (소비자의 사물인터넷 서비스 경험과 수용의도 : 네트워크 외부성을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to enhance the understanding of consumer experience and behavior of Internet of Things (IoT) services and to provide practical implications through investigating the impact of benefits-cost factors and network externalities on consumers' adoption intention of IoT services. An online survey was conducted on general consumers in their 20s to 60s who were aware of the IoT services and 328 data were collected. Using SPSS 24.0, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, factor analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis were conducted. As a result, the level of consumers' IoT service experience in various contexts was examined, and entertainment, informativeness, loss of humanity, compatibility, and complementarity were found to have a significant effect on consumers' adoption intention of IoT services. This study suggests that strengthening network externality effects by increasing compatibility and complementarity is important in promoting consumers' adoption of IoT services. In future studies, it is necessary to adopt specific Internet of Things services to verify the validity of the models developed in this study.

The Smartphone User's Dilemma among Personalization, Privacy, and Advertisement Fatigue: An Empirical Examination of Personalized Smartphone Advertisement (스마트폰 이용자의 모바일 광고 수용의사에 영향을 주는 요인: 개인화된 서비스, 개인정보보호, 광고 피로도 사이에서의 딜레마)

  • This study examined the factors that influence the smartphone user's decision to accept the personalized mobile advertisement. As a theoretical basis, we applied the privacy calculus model (PCM) that illustrates how consumers are engaged in a dynamic adjustment process in which privacy risks are weighted against benefits of information disclosure. In particular, we investigated how smartphone users make a risk-benefit assessment under which personalized service as benefit-side factor and information privacy risks as a risk-side factor accompanying their acceptance of advertisements. Further, we extend the current PCM by considering advertisement fatigue as a new factor that may influence the user's acceptance. The research model with five (5) hypotheses was tested using data gathered from 215 respondents through a quasi-experimental survey method. During the survey, each participant was asked to navigate the website where the experimental simulation of a mobile advertisement service was provided. The results showed that three (3) out of five (5) hypotheses were supported. First, we found that the intention to accept advertisements is positively and significantly influenced by the perceived value of personalization. Second, perceived advertisement fatigue was also found to be a strong predictor of the intention to accept advertisements. However, we did not find any evidence of direct influence of privacy risks. Finally, we found that the significant moderating effect between the perceived value of personalization and advertisement fatigue. This suggests that the firms should provide effective tailored advertisement that can increase the perceived value of personalization to mitigate the negative impacts of advertisement fatigue.

Estimating Economic Values of Parcel Service Attributes (택배 서비스 속성별 경제적 가치 추정)

  • The objective of this paper is to quantify economic values of parcel service attributes (safety, reliability, quickness, and kindness and customer service) using the contingent choice method and to investigate impact factors (such as sex, age, and education), which influence choice of desirable parcel services. As empirical results, the marginal willingness-to-pay for multiple attributes of parcel service is calculated as about 2,349.6 KRW for the safety attribute, about 829.3 KRW for the reliability attribute, about 588.5 KRW for the quickness attribute, and about 358.8 KRW for the kindness and customer service attribute, according to the estimation model without covariates. The overall results indicate that the safety attribute ranks highest among parcel service attributes, followed by the reliability attribute, quickness attribute, and kindness and customer service attribute. These results can be useful in the decision-making process for establishing desirable pricing policies for parcel service.

  • Profiling-based recommendation services provide the convenience of easily accessing specialized content for individuals on the user side and provide an important profit model on the corporate side. Despite the utility of these recommendation services, the issues such as personal information infringement and restrictions on consumer options are emerging, and certain regulatory movements for profiling recommendation services are actively underway. Under the circumstance, there are concerns that the introduction of regulations without a close review of regulatory effectiveness and side effects will weaken the competitiveness of domestic companies in the global market. This study systematically analyzed how companies providing profiling-based recommendation services perceive the corresponding regulations.

  • Despite consumers' increasing awareness and interests in innovative wearable devices, the sales growth has been stagnant. To analyze this phenomenon, we investigate consumer preferences for various innovative features embedded in wearable devices. Conducting conjoint analysis on smartwatches, we empirically show that the curse of innovation can occur when the consumer's expected utility from the smartwatch falls short of his/her psychological cost associated with behavior change from smartwatch usage. Therefore, our findings provide managerial implications on the R&D strategy for new technologies and more importantly on the marketing strategy easing consumers' resistance to highly innovative products.

  • Smart cities are attracting attention as a new economic growth engine based on new technologies and means to solve side effects of urbanization such as a surge in energy consumption, deepening environmental pollution, and an increase in crime rates. In particular, as demand for non-face-to-face services increases due to COVID-19, the role of smart cities that can provide various online and offline non-face-to-face services is becoming more important. Therefore, this study defined smart city non-face-to-face services based on literature research on the concept and underlying technology of smart city, and analyzed consumer utility for each service using Conjoint analysis. In particular, differences in user preferences between Sejong City and Busan City, which are currently designated as national smart city pilot cities in Korea, were compared and analyzed, and based on the derived results, measures to improve the competitiveness of smart city services were suggested.

  • Recently, Broadband Internet service in the rural area is deployed actively so it will be needed to identify the factors influencing success for continuous spread. In this paper, we explain the users'satisfaction of BcN for rural area and verify success factors such as obstacles the digital divide through the empirical analysis. We select basic variables from Information System (IS) Success Model and add specific variables from former research about overcoming digital divide. The results show that system quality has a significant influence on satisfaction. Use and satisfaction have an impact on eliminating the digital divide in rural area. Based on the findings, academic and practical implications for establishing Broadband Service in rural area are also discussed.

  • 사용자는 웹 서비스 컴포넌트에 대한 발견뿐만 아니라 자신의 시스템에 맞게 동작할 수 있도록 명세를 참조하여야 구현 및 테스트 작업이 효과적으로 이루어진다. 따라서 컴포넌트 명세를 작성할 때 사용자 이해를 고려한 여러 요소가 포함되어야 하는데, 현재의 명세는 오퍼레이션 이름, 데이터 타입 등과 같이 API 수준의 정보를 제공하기 때문에 해당 컴포넌트에 대한 이해가 어려워 사용자의 요구에 적합한 것인지를 결정하기 힘들며, 구현 및 테스트 과정에서 제약, 선 후 조건, 품질과 같은 요소들이 빠져 있어 작업을 어렵게 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 앞서 제시한 문제들을 개선하고자 사용자 요구사항 기반의 명세 확장방법을 제안하고, 이에 대한 효과를 명세 표준인 WSDL과 비교 분석함으로써 그 효용성을 보였다.

  • DGNSS 서비스는 보정정보를 제공하는 기준국과 측량지점 간의 기선거리가 멀어질수록 정확도가 저하되는 문제가 있다. 이를 해결하기 위해서는 다수의 기준국을 설치하는 방법이 있지만, 기준국 설치 시 많은 비용이 소요되기 때문에 비효율적이다. 이러한 문제는 기존의 기준국들로 기준망을 구성하고 보간을 통해 측량지점의 보정정보를 생성하는 가상기준국 기반의 방법을 적용함으로써 해결할 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 국토해양부 위성항법중앙사무소에서 운영하는 DGNSS 서비스를 이용하여 가상기준국의 보정정보 생성 알고리즘을 구현하였으며 단일기준국 기반의 DGNSS 측위의 정확도를 평가하여 가상기준국 기반의 DGNSS 측위의 효용성을 검증하였다.

  • 최근 인구 고령화 시대에 맞춰 개인건강에 대한 관심이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 헬스케어에 대한 관심이 집중되고 있으며, 스마트 기기나 웨어러블(wearable) 기기를 이용한 다양한 헬스케어 서비스들이 등장하였다. 특히 건강한 삶을 유지하는데 필수적으로 요구되는 수면에 관련 서비스들이 존재하지만, 사용자에게 실질적인 효용성을 제공하는 것에는 한계를 드러낸다. 본 논문에서는 사용자 자신의 수면 상태를 점검하여 올바른 수면 습관을 유도할 수 있도록 사용자의 수면주기를 시각화시키는 연구를 수행한다. 이를 위해 데이터 통계와 시각화에 적합한 언어인 R을 사용하여 사용자의 수면 데이터를 분석하여 시각화한다.
