  • Metaverse is a compound word of 'meta' and 'universe', which means transcendence and the world. It is a digital world where daily life and economic activities are possible. While the Metaverse is being actively used as an alternative space to enjoy leisure life since COVID-19, not much academic research on Metaverse in Korea has been done yet. Based on the previous research on Metaverse in Korea and overseas we conducted a typology analysis on cultural leisure-based Metaverse and a study on its key features. Considering the current situation in which the Metaverse era is blooming we also investigated the development trends of the Metaverse and related technologies at home and abroad. We also presented the direction of advancement of the cultural leisure-based Metaverse. This study differentiates itself from previous domestic and foreign studies by discovering and analyzing theoretical models, frameworks and features in terms of society, collaboration, and leisure use through case studies. It is meaningful that this research presents directions on further Metaverse research that reflect the current information technology (IT) and changes in life.

  • The film won the Golden Palm Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and received the Academy Award for a non-English-speaking film in February 2020, respectively. It has received a monumental evaluation in the world film history. Overall, this film is about class conflict, and critics evaluate the theme of the film as "badly twisted class gap" and "anger from class." The film expresses an intrinsic conflict embodied in culture as a "tragedy in which no bad person appears," rather than the dichotomous composition of the classical class struggle from Marxism. In other words, this can be seen as expressing the substrated class relationship of the modern society that Pierre Bourdieu had argued. This film has been focused as a controversial target under Korea society with excess of ideology. Politics used to adopt the keyword, 'parasite', for political disputes not only in culture contents world. Paradoxically socialism China did not allow to release film 'Parasite.' On the other hand, Lee O-Yong argues that the movie "Parasite" does not look at social phenomena through a dichotomous perspective, but is viewed through a "double perspective" and evaluates that it does not lose eyes looking at humans through tension. This view is based upon 'Vital Capitalism'. Lee. O-Yong looks at the movie "Parasite" from the perspective of "Vital Capitalism". The theory of Vital Capitalism does not seek to find the root of historical development in class struggle conflicts, but rather figuring out history and society pays attention onto the intrinsic characteristics of life, Topophilia, Neophilia, and Biophilia. Lee Eo-ryeong argues that the development of civilization theory evolved from the stage of Hobbes' Darwinism or predatism to the stage of host vs. parasite of Michel Serres, and onto the stage of Margulis's 'Win-Win (inter-dependence)'. In this paper, after overview of vital capital concept and preceeding research, re-interpretations were tried onto scenes based upon fields from habitus, culture capital. This exploration looks for a alternative for excess of ideology in Korea society.

  • The impact of environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance on investors' decision-making is growing. Investors' focus on the financial performance of firms in the past is expanding to the non-financial performance of the interests of stakeholders surrounding firms. Against this backdrop, this study conducted a panel regression analysis on firms evaluated by Korea Corporate Governance Service to analyze the impact of ESG performance, a firm's non-financial performance, on firm risk. According to the analysis, ESG performance has a negative (-) effect on all three firm risks (systematic risk, unsystematic risk, and total risk), indicating that the stakeholder theory and risk management theory are supported. The implications of this study are: First, ESG reduces not only unsystematic risk but also broad and indiscriminate systematic risk; Second, investors can reduce the risk of their investment portfolio by executing ESG investments; Third, companies can achieve stable financial performance even in adverse circumstances by utilizing the insurance function of ESG management; Lastly, the government can enhance the stability of the financial market while improving the financial soundness of firms through reasonable ESG-related regulations.

  • Shylock in Shakespeare's play, The Merchant of Venice has been considered as either a devilish villain, or as a victim who was persecuted unfairly by the Christian society in Venice. By focusing on the matter of the Other, which has been summarily overlooked in literary texts and the literary criticism, it is noted that the New Historical and Cultural criticism interpreted Shylock as the racial, religious, and economic Other in the Venetian society which at the time was dominated by Christian ideals. The purpose of this paper is to show how Shylock becomes an abjected Other, that is, the abject, based on Julia Kristeva's theory of abjection. According to Kristeva, an abjection is the process of expulsion of otherness from society, through which the subject or the nation tries to set up clear boundaries and establish a stable identity. Shylock is marginalized and abjected by the borders drawn by the Venetian Christian society, which in a strong sense tries to protect its identity and homogeneity by rejecting and excluding any unclean or improper otherness. The borders include the two visible borders like the Ghetto and the red hats worn by the Jews, and one invisible border in the religious and economic fields. By asking for one pound of Antonio's flesh when he can't pay back 3,000 ducats owed, Shylock tries to cross the border between Christians and Jews. Portia frustrates Shylock's desire to violate the border by presenting a different interpretation of the expression, 'one pound of flesh,' from Shylock's interpretation. And in doing so she expels him back to his original position of abject.
