Elementary School Teachers' and Company Teachers' Recognitions of the Informal Science Education Activity: 'Korea Junior Engineering Achievement' Case (비정규 과학교육 활동에 대한 초등 현직 교사와 기업 교사의 인식: '주니어 공학기술 교실' 사례를 중심으로)

  • Recent studies say that informal learning is influential to students as much as formal teaming. Nowadays we can see various informal teaming inside and outside of the country. In 2004, it was the first attempt in Korea that engineer had gone to the elementary school fur activity that included scientific experiment and engineering work with students. National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) progressed activity with companies and elementary schools for students' making sense of engineer and what they are doing. To do that, NAEK had developed the network that company could support its local school's science education circumstance by engineers' visiting program. In 2004, seventeen companies including both large and small ones took part in the program called' Korea Junior Engineering Achievement (KJEA)'. In this program, engineers played the role of teacher (we call them company teacher), elementary school teachers played the role of organizing classes as a mediator. Elementary school teachers and company teachers' recognition is very important to make students' activity meaningful. The aim of this study was to give implication for informal science education activity for which engineers visit their local school. We got the result by survey and interview of company teachers and elementary school teachers. This study's result shows that almost company teachers and school teachers were in favor of purpose of this informal science education activity and satisfied with their participation. But some company teachers were not satisfied with worksheets, materials provided and relationship between school and company). Elementary school teachers and company teachers, both of them believed students' program as the key factor of success of informal science education activity. To make informal science education grow, school administrator and teacher need to have a will to utilize the activities more actively.

Elementary School Students' Recognition of the Informal Science Education Program: 'Korea Junior Engineering Achievement' Case (비정규 과학교육 활동에 대한 초등학생들의 인식: '주니어 공학기술 교실' 사례를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the elementary school student's recognition of informal science education program : 'Korea Junior Engineering Achievement (KJEA)'case. The subjects were 807, 4th, 5th, 6th grade elementary school students who participated KJEA program. We developed questionnaires and explored the students' preference and the reason to KJEA (compared with school science lesson), attitude on informal elements of KJEA (non-school teachers and non-curricular content), interest in the each KJEA program, outcome of the KJEA. The result of this study showed that the students' recognition of the informal science education program was strongly affirmative. Students preferred KJEA program to school science lessons for that reason why they could make and do by themselves and the KJEA program had novelty. They expected more teaming opportunities by non-school teachers on non-curricular content. Though KJEA had little effect on career interests, students showed willingness to continue to participate. We could get implication for informal science education that the quality of the program is the most important factors than others. The novelty and the doing by oneselves were also important factors for students.

학교 및 대학 비정규직의 사학연금법 적용에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구는 학교 및 대학 비정규직의 증가 원인과 실태를 파악하고, 이들의 사학연금법 적용에 관하여 형평성과 보장성 측면에서 분석하였다. 1990년대 노동유연화의 일환으로 교육 영역에서 비정규직이 빠른 속도로 증가해 온 가운데 최근 강사법 개정 등 학교 및 대학 비정규직의 처우나 위상에서의 변화가 발생하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이들이 사학연금법에 적용될 경우, 퇴직급여 측면에서는 지금보다 유리해질 수 있으나, 직무상 재해, 실업, 그리고 모성보호 측면에서는 보장성이 떨어지거나 해당 제도의 부재로 인해 불리해질 수 가능성이 존재한다. 또한 장기재정추계를 실시한 결과, 단기적으로는 재정수지에 긍정적일 수 있지만 중·장기적으로는 점차 부정적으로 작용할 수 있음을 예측할 수 있었다. 이에 본 연구는 학교 및 대학 비정규직을 사학연금법에 적용하기에 앞서 사학연금 차원의 제도 개선이 반드시 선행되어야 함을 제언하였다.

An Appraisal of Drama 'KAIST' As an Informal Science Learning (비정규 과학학습으로 본 드라마 '카이스트' 평가)

  • KAIST' is the TV drama which has portrayed modem science & technology and the life of scientists & engineers for about one and half year. The purpose of this study is to appraise the drama 'KAIST' as an informal science learning. Using the interesting materials such as soccer robots, computer systems and satellites, the drama arouse students' interest and frequent watching. In general, the drama 'KAIST', as a source for informal science learning, played a positive role: it showed the image of scientists who have humane and sociable character being different from the students' image of real scientists, and changed positively the students' science-technology related attitudes, especially the attitudes towards scientists/engineers, science/technology, and the social nature of science/technology. Teachers commented that the drama 'KAIST' might arose students' interest in science, but the made-up contents and the genius-like characters could cause negative educational effects.

Comparative Analysis of Job Satisfaction Factors between Permanently and Temporarily Employed School Foodservice Dietitians in Gyeongsangnam-do (경상남도 일부지역 학교급식 영양사의 직무만족 요인 분석 - 정규직과 비정규직의 비교를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to compare job satisfaction and factors related to job satisfaction between permanently and temporarily employed dietitians in school foodservices in the Gyeongsangnam-do area. A total of 204 questionnaires were used in the final analysis. The average age, length of employment, and monthly wage of temporarily employed dietitians was significantly lower than those of permanently employed dietitians. However, there was no significant difference of overall job satisfaction between permanently and temporarily employed dietitians, although the average pay, welfare benefits, and promotion factors for permanently employed dietitians was significantly higher. Work and pay factors had significant effects on the overall job satisfaction of permanently employed dietitians, while work factors and work atmosphere had significant effects on the overall job satisfaction of temporarily employed dietitians. In conclusion, there was a significant difference in overall factors related to job satisfaction between permanently employed dietitian and temporarily employed dietitians. The pay, welfare benefits, and promotion condition of temporarily employed dietitians should be improved to ensure the efficient management of the school foodservice workforce in the future.

A Meta-analysis of the Difference in Job Satisfaction Levels by Type of Employee (근로자의 고용형태별 직무만족도 차이에 대한 메타분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect size of the difference of job satisfaction by type of employment by combining data from previous studies. For this purpose, the total of 95 articles analyzed. For the analysis of data, CMA(Comprehensive Meta-Analysis) 2.0 program was used and statistical significance was set at 5%(${\alpha}=0.05$). The main conclusions of this study are as follows. First, regular workers have higher job satisfaction than non-regular workers and the effect size of employment type is medium. Second, among five constituents of job satisfaction, the difference of wage and promotion satisfaction is greater than the difference of satisfaction in human relations, work and working environment satisfaction. Third, the job satisfaction of regular and non-regular workers differs according to the occupation areas. Fourth, there is a big difference in job satisfaction in financial, insurance, food and service occupation areas, and regular workers have higher job satisfaction than non - regular workers. On the other hand, non-regular workers have higher job satisfaction than regular workers in health, medical, social occupation areas.

  • Since Daejeon observatory has been built as the first astronomical science museum(ASM) whose theme is astronomy and space, many ASMs have been built or are being built by the governmental support. ASMs are requested to perform an important role as the educational venue that can be experienced the scientific activities for supplementing regular science education. This study investigated the analysis of the connection to astronomy-related contents of science curriculum revised in 2009 for exhibits of 17 ASMs. As a result, exhibits of ASMs show the low reflectivity to science curriculum and are very biased to standard of accomplishment. That is, they are not sufficient enough for the students to reach the learning objectives. However the astronomical scientific activities which are hard to be performed in regular school curriculum can be experienced at ASMs. Additionally, since exhibits of ASMs are easy to access and accept, they can provide the effective educational activities and learning effect. Therefore, ASMs have to be improved for supplementing regular science education through the informal curriculum of astronomical scientific activities by the producing and displaying good astronomy-related exhibits.

Content Standards for K-9 Engineering Education (초등 및 중학교 수준의 공학교육 내용표준 제안)

  • The purpose of this study was to conceptualize the idea of engineering between science and technology, to classify the types of K-9 engineering education, and to develop content standards for it. The primary goal for an engineer is to design, create, and produce new tools, machines, and systems for practical means of human by exploiting technology and science. Engineering is the professional art of using technology, and the practical application of science and mathematics to achieve the optimum conversion of the resources of nature for the benefit of humankind. We reviewed the literatures and documents for background research, had surveys, and interviewed with engineers and educators to set the frame of the content standards for K-9 Engineering education and to construct standards for each sub-component. We developed and suggested the content standards for K-9 engineering education by examining and revising it.

Development of Mathematics Class Model in Gifted Science Academy (과학영재학교 수학 수업모형 개발)

  • Considering the expansion of gifted education and the quantitative increase the Gifted Science Academy, it is important to seek the appropriate methods of mathematics teaching for gifted high school students. In particular, to reflect current trends in mathematics education that the mathematical creativity is being presented as an important educational goal, Now is the time we need student-centered discussion model for regular mathematics classes, not teacher-centered instruction in the way of knowledge transfer. In this study, class model of preparation-based discussion was designed and applied to the regular mathematics classes for the Science Academy. Students participating in this research had a lot of pressure in preparation activities for discussion, but they said that the discussion compared to traditional lecture was mathematically meaningful experience. These findings suggest the implication that class model of preparation-based discussion can be meaningfully applied to the regular mathematics class.

The Organization Commitment and Perception of Human Resource Management by Employment Types of School Foodservice Employees (학교급식 직원의 고용유형에 따른 인적 자원 관리 활동에 대한 인식과 조직 몰입도)

  • As the foodservice industry is labor intensive, the efficient management of human resources is an essential element for improving operational efficiency. This study was designed to investigate the performance level of human resource management in self-operated school foodservices and to examine the relationship between human resource management, organizational commitment, and productivity. Whether these factors rated differently by employment and job types was also examined. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 60 dieticians and 240 cooks in Seongnam and Yongin. Frequency analysis, factor analysis, the t-test and multiple regression analysis were tested using Minitab. Human resource management practices rated highly in the dimension of employee training (3.51), followed by working environment (3.39), and turnover management (3.37). In contrast, reward management (1.73) and working condition (1.56) received the lowest score. Organizational commitment scored 3.65 points, and showed that dedication (3.82) was the highest score; however, self-esteem (3.50) was the lowest score. For human resource management, there were significant differences between employment types as full time workers (3.85) rated management more highly than part-time worker (3.43). Overall productivity was fairly high, especially in high school foodservices. Only the performance appraisal had an influence on organizational commitment (${\beta}$=0.292, P<0.05). Productivity was positively correlated with human resource management (r=0.432, P<0.001) and organizational commitment (r=0.36, P<0.01). In conclusion, school foodservices need to establish objective performance standards, and increase employee morale by enhancing reward systems and working conditions. In particular, irregular employees require training with job performance standards and given a proper reward program, depending on their performance, to improve organizational commitment.
