The role of myokine(interleukin) and exercise for the prevention of scarcopenia and anti-inflammation (근감소 및 염증 예방을 위한 운동과 인터루킨(IL-interleukin)의 역할)

  • The purpose of this study was myokine product and role with physical activity and literature review. There is accumulating epidemiological evidence that a physically active life plays an independent role in the protection against type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, dementia and even depression. And myokine has been regarded an important factor of exercise training and brain growth factor for the prevention of Alzheimier's disease. During exercise the release of anti-inflammatory myokine from contracting muscle controled the metabolic response, and IL-4, IL-6, IL-7, IL-10, and IL-15 controled muscle hypertrophy, myogenesis and angiogenenesis. IL-6 promoted the lipid metabolism through AMPK activation. IL-1Ra, IL-10 and sTNF-R inhibited $TNF-{\alpha}$ as the pro-inflammatory cytokine. IL-15 increased the releasing volume from contracting muscle, and promoted the anabolic factor of muscle growth. IL-7 and IL-8 activated the angiogenesis through the more activation of C-X-C receptor signal transmission.

Vibrio anguillarum infection in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss during seawater adaption (해수순치 무지개송어 (Oncorhynchus mykiss)의 Vibrio anguillarum 감염증)

  • We examined the cause of a disease outbreak in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, which were adapting to a seawater in an aquaculture farm in Jeju on April, 2013. Most of the diseased fish showed a severe ulcer on the skin, enlarged spleen, expanded stomach and hemorrhage of abdominal and pyloric region. Although no parasites, fungi or viruses were isolated from diseased fish, over 200 same bacterial colonies were isolated from liver, spleen and kidney. Nucleotide sequences of the 16S rDNA gene of the bacterium in this study showed 100% identity with Vibrio anguillarum. This study is the first report of V. anguillarum infection in rainbow trout during sea adaption in Korea.

Anatomical Characteristics of Hyperhydric Shoots Occuring in In Vitro Culture of Peace Poplar (Peace포플러의 기내 배양시 발생하는 과수화 식물체의 조직적 특성)

  • We investigated the anatomical aspects of vitrification in peace poplar. Comparisons were made with regard to characteristics occurring between hyperhydric and normal shoots in shoot proliferation cultures on MS medium containing 0.2 mg/L BA. Compared with normal plants, hyperhydric plants had thick, curled, and dark green leaves. Hyperhydric stems were thicker and shorter than those of normal stems. When examined under the microscopes, the mesophyll palisade cells of hyperhydric leaves were vacuolated, whereas those of normal leaves contained normal and enriched vacuole with cytoplasm. Generally, the hyperhydric leaves showed poorly developed palisade parenchyma, and revealed irregular and bigger sized intercellular structures in both palisade and spongy parenchyma as well as epidermis cells compare to those of normal leaves. In addition, the hyperhydric leaves had lower stomatal density and bigger sized cell. Vascular tissues of hyperhydic stems were less differentiated because of poorly lignified xylem tissue. The greatly expanded cortical cells and pith appeared to be the main cause of thick stems as compared with normal stems.

Effects of Growth Regulators and Sucrose Concentrations on the Bulblet Formation through In Vitro Culture of Scale Segment in Nerine bowdenii (네리네(Nerine bowdenii)의 기내 인편배양시 자구형성에 미치는 생장조절제와 Sucrose 농도의 영향)

  • The twin-scale segments of nerine (Nerine bowdenii) were cultured to investigate the influence of NAA, BA and sucrose concentrations on in vitro bulblet formation. The formation of bulblets from twin-scale segments showed a good response both the percentage of bulblet formation and the number of bulblets per explant on MS medium supplemented with 1mg/L NAA and 2 mg/L BA. Formation of bulblet showed the highest efficiency on medium containing 30g/L, and the formation of bulblets was strongly inhibited on medium containing over 90g/L. When the twin-scale segments formed bulblets were subcultured three times to the same medium by 60 day subculture interval, the number of bulblets per explant was 6.5, 7.3 and 8.2 in order of first, second and third. The bulblets over 3mm in diameter were hypertrophied and rooted after transferring to the hormone-free MS medium. The plantlets over 50mm in height were successfully acclimatized in the soil mixed with the same volume of vermiculite and perlite, and the survival rate was over 95%.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of municipal sewage sludge on the growth and heavy metal content of rose and soil chemical properties. Municipal sewage sludge was applied to soil at rate of 0, 3, 5, 10 and 15 ton/10a, the plant height, flower number and stem size of rose were found to be increase in the treatments of sewage sludge. Contents of mineral nutrients in rose stem were determined to be higher at municipal sewage sludge application plots than those of no application. But, there were not any significant increases of heavy metal contents in soil and rose stem with the sludge applications. from the results of this study, it is apparent that the application of municipal sewage sludge would not increase available heavy metals in soil.

  • Curcuma alismatifolia is becoming popular for cut flowers and potted plants due to its long inflorescence with many showy pink flowers. It is propagated by rhizomes and inflorescences that are similar to those of lotus. However, initiation of inflorescence development of each bract and flower has not been investigated. Therefore, this experiment was conducted to study the inflorescence development of Curcuma alismatifolia 'Chiangmai Pink' by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). When new shoots grew to 15-20 cm in a greenhouse at $25^{\circ}C$, the first bract initiated with a dome-shaped inflorescence apex, followed by initiation of additional bracts, forming the shape of the flower head. Florets were subtended by the first bract when five to seven bracts were formed. Four to six florets were subtended by each bract. The floret positioned in the center initiated and progressed upward first. When the center florets in the upper bracts were formed, florets next to the center floret subtended by the first bract were formed, and formation of the axillary florets progressed upward in sequential order.

  • Pulmonary lymphangiomatosis is a very rare pulmonary lesion with an aggressive potential that occurs mainly in newborns, infants and young children of both sexes. It is characterized by pulmonary abnormalities of lymphatic system, showing an increased number of complex anastomosing lymphatic channels in the pleura, in the subpleural interlobular septa, and along the bronchovascular lymphatic route and uniformly fatal. We report a case of lymphangiomatosis behaving like lymphangioleiomyomatosis in a 26-year-old woman.

Pyruvic Acid Content according to Different Portions in Onion(Allium cepa L.) (양파의 부위에 따른 pyruvic acid 함량)

  • By analysis of pyruvic acid and sugar levels in bulbs, leaf sheaths, and leaves, and with regard to phyllotaxis, it was shown that the lower portion of each plant component had the greatest pyruvic acid content, the upper portion less, and the middle portion the lowest. When bulb scales were examined, pyruvic acid content was lowest in the second bulb scale from the papery scale. Pyruvic acid level increased toward the inner portion of the bulb. Pyruvic acid levels in leaf sheaths and leaves were greater than those in the bulb during the early stages of bulb growth. However, at harvest, the pyruvic acid content of bulbs increased slightly, whereas those of leaf sheaths and leaves decreased markedly. Tissue sugar contents were similar at the beginning of bulb growth. However, bulb sugar content increased greatly as the bulb grew, and sugar contents of leaf sheaths and leaves decreased. With respect to phyllotaxis, outer older leaves had the lowest total sugar and pyruvic acid contents. Young leaves showed a tendency to have less pyruvic acid and sugar compared with mature leaves.

  • The purpose of this paper is to define and describe a series of growth stages for maize. cv. MTC-l (early) and Suweon No. 19 (late) that are easily identifiable by both professional agronomists and farmers. Plants were grown at a density of 60cm row with plant spacing of 15cm at six different seeding times in 1980. Leaf development indices with ten grades (LDI) were identified and defined in accordance with the development of a leaf blade. Leaf appearance rate (LAR) was ca. 3 days and it was not influenced by the variety or seeding time. The elongation of the first internode above the ground level began in a month after emergence and it corresponded to the 8th or 9th leaf stage. Internodes elongated in regular sequence of node position. The morphological change of silks related closely with the development of kernel. The duration of generative development was not influenced by varieties and seeding time but that of vegetative growth was influenced. A new scheme for the maize which was made by the developed leaves, visible nodes above ground level, morphological change of silks and development of kernel was proposed.

  • Alstroemeria (Alstroemeriaceae) is one of the most important cut flowers in international market. But, its characteristics such as low multiplication rates, time consuming process and high risk of carrying viral disease, in vitro propagation techniques based on rhizome meristems culture have been developed. In this study, we conducted this experiment to investigate the effect of hormones and gelling agents on the growth for Alstroemeria in vitro tissue culture. The highest number of shoot and root formation were obtained from the growth medium contains BA 1.0 mg/L and NAA 0.1 mg/L. When 0.25% of gelrite was added up to 50% shoots and roots length were observed compared to other gelling agents. Using these results, it is expected to contribute to the establishment of mass production systems in Alstroemeria.
