  • The Critical Consciousness Scale (CCS) is a scale developed by Diemer and colleagues (2017) that can measure the capacity of the oppressed or marginalized people to critically analyze their social and political conditions, support societal equality, and take action to change the perceived inequities. In this study, we validated the CCS for Korea by adapting and localizing the scale and validating it among university students. Content validity was verified by having five individuals with master's and doctoral degrees in psychology evaluate the suitability of the translated items. Afterwards, reliability and validity were verified through a survey of 314 university students nationwide using the CCS, along with the opportunity inequality recognition scale, recognition of the need for environmental change scale, social participation scale, and belief in a just world scale. To verify the scale's validity, exploratory factor analysis was conducted, confirming three subfactors. Then, a confirmatory factor analysis was carried out, where 14 items out of the original 22 were retained. The construct validity and reliability of these 14 items were found to be satisfactory. Additionally, in the correlation analysis between the CCS and similar scales, a significant clear relationship was found. The CCS showed a positive correlation with scales such as opportunity inequality recognition, need for environmental change recognition, and social participation, and a negative correlation with the belief in a just world scale. Based on these results, the CCS can be considered valid and reliable. Finally, the limitations and significance of this study were discussed.

  • Previous studies on double scale models, visual models with two different scales (Chong, 2015), have focused on double number line and little research has been conducted on how to employ double scale models in the elementary mathematics textbooks series. Given this, we analyzed the characteristics of double scale models in the Japanese elementary mathematics textbooks in the following aspects: (a) the contents of units where double scale models were used; (b) the purposes of using such models; (c) the types of such models tailored to the contents and grade levels; and (d) the characteristics of problem contexts dealing with the models. The results of this study showed that double scale models were effectively used to connect the contents related to multiplication, specifically for the contexts of ratio. Such models were addressed for students in a systematic and gradual way as the grade levels went up. Based on these results, this paper describes implications on how to use double scale models in mathematics textbooks.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean self-compassion scale using data from 312 correctional workers. To validate the self-compassion scale using the collected data, correlational analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis were applied. To explore relationships between the self-compassion scale and related instruments, five instruments were used (the Korean occupational stress scale, the center for epidemiological studies depression scale, the Maslach burnout inventory scale, perceived stress scale, and the satisfaction with life scale). The results showed that the collected data better fit the 6-factor model than the 3-factor and 2-factor models. There were statistically significant relationships between the self-compassion scale and five other scales. These results suggest that the self-compassion scale is a good instrument to examine risk factors that can remain during continuous stress situations and to explore protective factors that can maintain the therapeutic relationship. The implications of this study and future research directions were also discussed.

  • The primary objectives of this study are twofold. One is to examine the psychometric properties of Family Empowerment Scale(FES) developed by Koren, DeChillo and Frisen(1992). The other is to develope a short-form FES. Data collected from 337 members of Parents' Solidarity of Children with Disabilities were used. FES had good internal consistency, but the results of confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) did not support the theoretical factor structure of the scale. Basic analyses such as correlation and descriptive analysis were performed to examine the characteristics of individual items and identify the limitation of the orignal FES. In addition, a series of CFA were carried out to develop a short-form FES. Finally 15 items were selected based on theoretical rationale and the results of CFA. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ and the model fit indices for the short-form FES indicated that this measure has good construct validity as well as internal consistency. In discussion, usefulness and potential contribution of this study were explored in relation to content development in the area of measuring instruments.

  • Size/scale is a central idea in the science curriculum, providing explanations for various phenomena. However, few studies have been conducted to explore student understanding of this concept and to suggest instructional approaches in scientific contexts. In contrast, there have been more studies in mathematics, regarding the use of number lines to relate the nature of numbers to operation and representation of magnitude. In order to better understand variations in student conceptions of size/scale in scientific contexts and explain learning difficulties including alternative conceptions, this study suggests an approach that links mathematics with the analysis of student conceptions of size/scale, i.e. the analysis of mathematical structure and reasoning for a number line. In addition, data ranging from high school to college students facilitate the interpretation of conceptual complexity in terms of mathematical development of a number line. In this sense, findings from this study better explain the following by mathematical reasoning: (1) varied student conceptions, (2) key aspects of each conception, and (3) potential cognitive dimensions interpreting the size/scale concepts. Results of this study help us to understand the troublesomeness of learning size/scale and provide a direction for developing curriculum and instruction for better understanding.

  • Recently, some bibliometric researchers tried to use the centrality analysis methods and the centrality measures which are standard tools in social network analysis. However the traditional centrality measures originated from social network analysis could not deal with weighted networks such as co-citation networks. In this study. new centrality measures for analyzing bibliometric networks with link weights are suggested and applied to three real network data, including an author co-citation network, a co-word network, and a website co-link network. The results of centrality analyses in these three cases can be regarded as Promising the usefulness of suggested centrality measures, especially in analyzing the Position and influence of each node in a bibliometric network.
