The purpose in having a control surface on ships is to control the motion of the ship. The control surface may be composed entirely of a single movable surface or of a combination of fixed and movable portions. A control surface has one sole function to perform in meeting its purpose, and that is to develop a control force in consequence of its orientation and movement relative to the water. The forces and moments generated as a result of this rotation and angle of attack then determine the manoeuvring characteristics of the ship. In this paper, two-dimensional flow characteristics of a flapped rudder and a water-blowing control rudder were accomplished respectively by PIV method in a circulating water channel. Model test has been carried out with different angles of attack of main foil (NACA 0012) and flap's deflection angles to predict the performance of the flapped rudder and the water-blowing control rudder. The 2-frame particle tracking method has been used to obtain the velocity distribution in the flow field. $Re{\fallingdotseq}3.0{\times}10^4$ has been used during the whole experiments and measured results have been compared with each other.

Currently, due to the serious world-wide air pollution by substances emitted from vehicles, emission control is enforced more firmly and it is expected that the regulation requirements for emission will become more severe. Anew concept combustion technology that can reduce the NOx and PM in relation to combustion is urgently required. Due to such social requirement, technologically advanced countries are making efforts to develop an environment-friendly vehicle engine at the nation-wide level in order to respond to the reinforced emission control. As a core combustion technology among new combustion technologies for the next generation engine, the homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) is expanding its application range by adopting multiple combustion mode, catalyst, direct fuel injection and partially premixed combustion. This study used a 2-staged injection method in order to apply the HCCI combustion method without significantly altering engine specifications in the aspect of multiple combustion mode and practicality by referring to the results of studies on the HCCI engine. And it is investigated that the effects of the engine rpm and load(or A/F) to emission characteristics.
Clogging in drainage pipe is one of the important problems, so it needs a remedy urgently. Recently, scale in drainage pipe is removed by water jet cleaning and other treatment. But these treatments need much cost and regular management. The principal component of scale in drainage pipe is $CaCO_{3}$. It was observed the setting of $CaCO_{3}$ by some kind of analysis such as SEM, XRD, visual and weight measuring analysis to solve these problems and prevent setting formation in drainage pipe. As a result, in case of magnetic, particle shape of $CaCO_{3}$ is changed Aragonite from Calcite. Also in case of Quantum Stick, the amount of scale is reduced by expert inspector's result. As a whole, Magnetic treatment and Quantum Stick have the effect for protecting of scale precipitation.

The dissolved air flotation(DAF) has been shown to be efficient process for the removal of algae ftom water. The efficiency of DAF can be affected by the volume ratio of pressurized liquid to sample, the pressure pressurized liquid, the contact time, the appropriate coagulant and its amount, the water temperature, the turbulence of reactor, the bubble size and rising velocity etc. The purpose of this paper is to compare the practical bubble rising velocity with the theoretical one, to investigate the adhesion phenomenon of bubbles and floc, and the influence of bubble size and velocity upon the process. The results through theoretical review and experimental investigation are as follows: Ives' equation is more suitable than Stokes' equation in computation of the bubble rising velocity. The collection of bubble and algae floc is convective collection type and resulted from absorption than adhesion or collision. The treatment efficiency is excellent when the bubble sizes are smaller than $l00{\mu}m$, and the turbulence of reactor is small. In the optimum condition of continuous type DAF the volume ratio of pressurized liquid to sample is 15%, the contact time in reactor is 15 minutes, the pressure of pressurized liquid is $4kg/cm^2$ and the distance from jet needle to inlet is 30cm.

Purpose: This study was conducted to identify the surface characteristics of titanium discs coated with MS275/PLGA by electrospray and which is effective to mesenchymal stem cell proliferation. Materials and methods: We used anodized surface coated with PLGA as a control group and anodized surface coated with MS275 $0.5{\mu}M$, $1{\mu}M$, $1.5{\mu}M$ as test groups. To examine that the coating particles are nanometer sized, FE-SEM was used and AFM was utilized to determine the difference of coating surface roughness. We checked the mesenchymal stem cell proliferation by using MTT assay on $1^{st}$, $4^{th}$, $7^{th}$ days. Results: There was no significant difference between control groups and test groups in AFM results (P>.05). In MTT assay results, mesenchymal stem cell proliferation was increased with time, at $7^{th}$ day, cell viability on discs coated with $1.5{\mu}M$ MS275 was significantly higher than control group (P<.05). As SEM showed, the number of cells on all discs was increased and the morphology of cell attachment was also wider and closer with time. Conclusion: Titanium surface coated with MS275/PLGA showed significantly higher cell proliferation and the more density of MS275 was dispersed on titanium discs, the faster cells grew.

In this study, the polymeric membrane module is used as a diffuser and an image analysis technique based on visual information is applied to get bubble characteristics. The bubble size generated passed through polymeric membrane module was smaller from 30 to 64% than that of air stone, and bubble volume over 70% was ranged from 0.2 to 0.82 mm. But over 80% the bubbles from air stone diffuser ranged from 0.77 to 1.08 mm. The air stone and polymeric membrane module used as diffuser for a flotation system. The floc size inside the flotation reactor using air stone diffuser was bigger than that of the polymeric membrane module, which means that the micro-bubbles generated from polymeric membrane module could provide better opportunities for collisions between colloidal particles than those from air stone diffuser. Therefore, there is a possibility to apply the polymeric membrane module as a diffuser to increase the removal efficiency in the flotation process. Also, the image analysis technique used in this study could be applied as a useful analytical tool for acquisition of an information about the bubble characteristic.
Negative-temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors based on nickel manganite spinel ($NiMn_2O_4$) are widely used for many applications, such as sensors and temperature compensators, due to their good thermistor characteristics and stabilities. However, to achieve thermistors with a high NTC B constant, which is an important figure of merit pertaining to the degree of temperature sensitivity, the activation energy should be high such that high resistivity at ambient temperatures results. To obtain a high B constant and low resistivity, Al and Si modified spinel structured $Ni_{0.6}Si_{0.2}Al_{0.6}Mn_{1.6}O_4$ hybrid thick films with the conducting metal oxide of $LaNiO_3$ were fabricated on a glass substrate by aerosol deposition at room temperature (RT). The NTC-$LaNiO_3$ hybrid thick films showed resistivity as low as < $100k{\Omega}\;cm$ at $90^{\circ}C$, which is one or two orders of magnitude lower than that of the monolithic NTC films, while retaining a high B constant of $NiMn_2O_4$ of over 5500 K when 20 wt% $LaNiO_3$ was added without a post-thermal treatment. These phenomena are explained by the percolation threshold mechanism.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of operational parameters such as rotation speed and vibrating milling time for the fabrication of photocatalytic $TiO_2$ thin film using aerosol deposition methods. $TiO_2$ powders produced in the range of 1,000-3,000 rpm of rotation speed of centrifugal separator are ineffective on the fabrication of $TiO_2$ thin film by aerosol deposition due to the problem of nozzle powder jam. $TiO_2$ powders controlled by vibrating milling had about 420 nm of average diameter after 2 hr of vibrating milling time. The result of XRD analysis indicated that $TiO_2$ powders had a anatase phase. Vibrating milling methods was considered to be an effective pre-treatment process for $TiO_2$ powder control. Consequently $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film with dispersion of anatase crystallites controled by vibrating milling was successfully fabricated by aerosol deposition. The permeation flux of $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film with the immobilized $TiO_2$ powder was higher than that of suspended $TiO_2$ powder. Therefore, $TiO_2$ photocatalytic thin film promises to be one of the effective methods for enhancing filtration performance for the treatment of organic pollutants.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of various surface treatment methods on the shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets in vitro. Ninety six specimens, 6 mm in diameter and 5 mm in height, were made with composite resin ($Filtek^{TM}$ Z350 XT, 3M ESPE, USA) and treated with an aging procedure. After aging, the specimens were randomly separated in six groups: (1) control with no surface treatment, (2) 37% phosphoric acid gel, (3) 4% hydrofluoric acid gel, (4) sodium bicarbonate particle abrasion, (5) diamond bur, and (6) 1 W carbon dioxide laser for 5s. The metal brackets were bonded to composite surfaces by means of an orthodontic adhesive (Transbond XT, 3M Unitek, USA). Shear bond strength values were evaluated with a universal testing machine (R&B Inc., Korea). Analysis of variance showed a significant difference between the groups. Group 5 had the highest mean shear bond strength (11.9 MPa), followed by group 6 (11.1 MPa). Among the experimental groups, group 2 resulted in the weakest mean shear bond strength (5.22 MPa). The results of this study suggest that the repair shear bond strength of the aged composite resin was acceptable by surface treatment with a carbon dioxide laser.

Purpose: The purpose was to compare shear bond strength (SBS) of three types of resin for temporary restoration to polyetherketoneketone (PEKK) depending on surface modification. Materials and Methods: Sixty disks made from PEKK were air-abraded with 110 ㎛ alumina particles (Cobra, Renfert GmbH, Hilzinge, Germany) and thirty specimens were divided into two groups each: PEKK without Visio.link (Bredent, Senden, Germany)(U) and with Visio.link (P). Resins for temporary restoration (polymethylmethacrylate; PMMA, polyethylmethacrylate; PEMA, bis-acryl composite resin) in the shape of a square with one side 3.2 mm were bonded to PEKK twenty respectively and classified into six groups (UM, UE, UC, PM, PE and PC). All specimens were stored in distilled water at 37℃ for 24 hours. SBS of each group was measured at a crosshead speed of 2 mm/min in universal testing machine. SBS was compared using one-way ANOVA and a Tukey HSD test (P = 0.05). Results: Group UM and group UE showed a significant difference in SBS with group UC (P < 0.05). Group PC showed a significant increase in SBS than group UC (P < 0.05). Conclusion: It is recommended to apply Visio.link to PEKK for adhering bis-acrylic composite resin, but not for PMMA and PEMA in clinical practice.
