  • This study explores the effects of rural migrant characteristics and conjugal communication on life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants. A total of 205 Korean baby boomers, who are living in rural areas in the year of 2013 that had migrated from cities back in 2003 with their families, were analyzed. Their age ranged from 49 to 57 years. The statistical methods used for data analysis were descriptive statistics, t-test, and hierarchical regression analysis, with SPSS Win 20.0 program. The results of this study are summarized as follows: the reasons these baby boomers chose a rural lifestyle were 'for life after retirement,' 'because rural life is good,' 'for health reasons,' and 'for chosen profession.' The level of conjugal communication (M=3.69) and life satisfaction (M=3.23) were higher than average (M=3.0). The variables influencing life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants were 'increased property size,' 'better conjugal communication,' 'better health condition,' 'lower levels of money,' and 'length of time spent farming.' Furthermore, in terms of life satisfaction, the relative contributions of these variables are as follows: general characteristics 20%, rural migrant characteristics 10%, and the level of conjugal communication 6%. These results show that conjugal communication is a very important variable, as well as a rural migrant characteristic when it comes to life satisfaction of these baby boomers. Therefore, to improve life satisfaction of baby boomer rural migrants, support programs need to focus on both farming and conjugal relationships.

Marital quality was measured in two aspects: marital satisfaction and marital conflict. At the first step of the regression analysis, socio-demographic variables were entered, at the second step, variables of personality characteristics, and at the third step, variables of personality characteristics of the spouse were added. Age group of 35 and under is higher in marital satisfaction or lower in marital conflict than that of 36 to 40. People who grew up in Chungchung area are lower in marital satisfaction compared to those who grew up in Seoul and adjacent area, and those who grew up in Chunla area are higher in marital satisfaction. Marital conflict increases when people are less educated. Marital conflict decreases when the husband has high income. Religion is related to marital satisfaction and marital conflict of the husband. Stability is related to both marital satisfaction and marital conflict. Sociability of the wife is related to marital satisfaction and marital conflict of the husband, and responsibility of the wife is related to her own marital conflict. Responsibility of the husband is related to marital conflict of the wife. This result shows that the husband is expected to perform the instrumental role and the wife the expressive role. In, conclusion, these results should be considered when family life education programs for couples are constructed. First, family life cycle needs to be considered when family life education programs are offered. Second, regional differences in family culture should be put into consideration. Third, the idea that conjugal role relationships can be flexible needs to be included in family life education programs. Fourth, programs to improve stability, responsibility and sociability are needed for wives. Fifth, programs to improve stability and responsibility should be offered in work settings for husbands.

  • This study was conducted with 193 pairs of mother-in-law and son-in-law to examine the mediating effect of marital satisfaction on the relationship between interpersonal differentiation and affectual solidarity. Using SPSS and PROCESS macro program, descriptive statistical analysis(frequency, ratio, mean, and standard deviation) and mediating effect analysis through bootstrapping were performed. The main research results are as follows. First, in the case of the son-in-law, his own marital satisfaction completely mediated the relationship between the sub-factors of interpersonal differentiation (fusion with others, emotional cutting) and affectual solidarity. Second, in the case of mother-in-law, the perceived daughter's marital satisfaction partially mediated the relationship between the sub-factors of interpersonal differentiation (connectivity, separability) and affectual solidarity. These findings suggest the functional importance of the marital system for a healthy relationship between mother-in-law and son-in-law.

The results of this study are as follows. First, mothers' solution-focused thinking had a significant direct and indirect positive influence on marital satisfaction through both father involvement in childcare and marital conflict. Second, the sequential mediating effects of father involvement in childcare and marital conflict were statistically significant in the relationship between solution-focused thinking and marital satisfaction. • This study attempted a convergence approach of family therapy and family coaching as the importance of convergence application of counseling and coaching has rapidly spread around the academic and clinical world with one individual client around the world since the 2000s. For this, based on previous domestic and foreign literature studies, coaching techniques that can increase clinical satisfaction and effectiveness by combining with coaching among the main theories of family therapy were presented. This researcher examined whether family therapy can be applied convergently with family coaching, and what benefits are available when the main theories of family therapy are combined with coaching in the clinical field. For this purpose, double binding and communication coaching, pseudo-mutuality and true rapport, marital schism and conflict mediation, differentiation and dissociation were compared and analyzed. Based on this study, it is hoped that a convergence approach of family therapy and family coaching will be attempted in the field of counseling and psychotherapy, and through this, it will contribute to establishing a new clinical treatment model and academic establishment of family coaching.

For domestic factors we included marriage process, reason for marriage, husbands' understanding of wife's native language, husbands' understanding of wife's culture, marital satisfaction, existence of children, head of the household, and parenting efficacy. Finally for social factors, awareness of welfare services and systems, use of public institutions and civil organizations, and participation in social groups were included. We recruited 256 immigrant wives who live in Asan City, Chungnam Province and the data were analyzed by multiple linear regression. The factors that statistically significant were: ego-resiliency, marital duration, acculturation to Korean culture and economic status among personal factors; parenting efficacy, marital satisfaction and marriage process (married without a matchmaker) among domestic factors; participation in self-help group of women from the same mother country, awareness of welfare services and systems, participation in hobby club, and participation in fraternal/religious society among social factors.
