The subjexts of this study were 625 students selected at random from first and second grade of high school in Daegu. A questionnaire was used as survey method. Factor analysis, MANOVA and cluster analysis for data analysis and Scheffe test for post-hoc analysis were employed. The man findings were as follows: Firs, there were significant differences in the degree of adolescent’s self-efficacy according to perceive father-adolescent communication style. In case that adolescents perceived their father’s communication style as reasonable, the degree of self-control, self-confidence and attribution were higher than those of other cases such as non-interferential or impulsive communication style. The adolescents who perceived the father’s communication style as reasonable showed higher preference of difficult task than those who perceived it as non-interferential style. The adolescents who perceived father’s communication style as reasonable and non-interferential showed higher attribution than those who perceived it as impulsive style. Second, there were significant differences in the degree of adolescent’s self-efficacy according to perceived mother-adolescent communication style. In case that adolescents perceived their mother’s communication style as reasonable, the degree of self-control was higher than that of other cases such as non-interferential and impulsive communication style. The purpose of the study is to examine the effects of adolescents' psychosocial characteristics and parental communication patterns on suicidal ideation. Participants were 520 first- and second- year high-school students in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas. Questionnaires included items on suicidal ideation, irrational beliefs, depression, hopelessness, and parental communication patterns. Data were statistically analyzed through a t-test, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS for Win version 12.0. The major results were as follows: 1) Female adolescents had higher levels of irrational beliefs, depression, specific types of communication patterns from the father(placating) and suicidal ideation more than their male counterparts. The male adolescents showed more communication patterns from the father(blaming) than their female counterparts. 2) Depression, irrational beliefs, mothers' communication patterns (blaming), gender and hopelessness were significant predictors of adolescent suicidal ideation. 3) The adolescents' irrational beliefs had a mediating effect on the relationship between their suicidal ideation and dysfunctional parental communication.

The purpose of this study was to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an educational program, based on the family life education theory and the needs of the adolescents, for the improvement of the relationship between adolescents and their parents. Aimed to be applicable in the actual school environment, the program was practiced and successfully proved its effectiveness. Named 'Parents and I : Is It Good This Way? Over the Generation Gap', the program is composed of themes such as 'Understanding the importance of the parent-child relationship', 'Understanding parents', and 'Having friendly communication with parents', and was practiced five times, once every week, at H girls' high school located in Seoul. An evaluation was done on adolescents to see the effectiveness of the parent-child relationship improvement program: there was a meaningful distinction between the results of the pre-test and the post-test. The participants responded that they could have a chance to understand their mid-aged parents and to express their feelings and thoughts, and evaluated that the anger-control program was a training for them to express their emotions in a rational way.
This study analyzed the satisfaction and utilization of the institutional applications used by child-education institutions from a parent's perspective. The research target is a parent who enlisted their children in private kindergarten institution located in Gyeong-gi province and final research outcomes are 443 in total. The difference in satisfaction and utilization have been identified with demographic descriptive statistics, students t-test, and F-test statistics analysis method. First, the result of T-test on the difference in satisfaction and utilization based on parents' employment status shows that statistically significant difference was found in convenience from overall satisfaction, communication from overall utilization and child-parent relationship. Second, the F-test of differences in satisfaction and utilization showed a statistically significant difference in education utilization variables, with all variables in educational background and motivation. In terms of utilization, parents' educational background and overall utilization, and children's age were confirmed to have significant differences in communication, children's relationship, and motivation in basic life. Third, the result of multiple regression analysis shows that all predictors, including ease of use, communication, and satisfaction with educational activities, have a statistically significant impact on utilization standard variables, relative contributions showed the highest level of communication satisfaction. Therefore this paper implicates that institutional applications can maximize educational effectiveness by checking the applicability of active communication and educational activities with parents and actively communicating with parents in early childhood through various educational content applications.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the predictors influencing on resilience in adolescents with cancer. Methods: The participants consisted of 107 parents and 107 adolescents who aged ten and eighteen diagnosed with cancer more than six months and currently receiving outpatient treatment or further management after off-therapy. Data was collected using self-report questionnaires and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. Results: Resilience was significantly different by religion (t=2.472, p=.045) and number of cancer treatment regimens (F=3.155, p=.047). Family problem-solving communication was also significant by number of cancer treatment regimens (F=3.582, p=.031). The higher social support showed the stronger family hardiness and the better family problem-solving communication. In addition, a positive relationship was found between Family Hardiness Index (FHI) (r=.193, p=.046), Family Problem Solving Communication (FPSC) (r=.226, p=.019) and resilience of adolescents with cancer. FPSC (${\beta}$=.356, p=.045) and religion (${\beta}$=.441, p=.002) were predictive factors at ages 10-12, FHI (${\beta}$=.509, p=.029) and FPSC (${\beta}$=.503, p=.037) were predictive factors at ages 13-15 on resilience of adolescents with cancer that explained 16.0% and 24.3% respectively. Conclusion: The findings suggest that nursing interventions should focus on enhancing family resilience and resilience of adolescents with cancer.
This study tries to analyse the relationship between sexual attitudes and behaviors on the one hand and parent-child relationships on the other among college students in Korea. 1,237 students from different areas were surveyed. Sexual attitudes are subdivided into four aspects, namely, permissiveness, instrumentality, emotional exchange, and responsibility, and sexual behaviors into indirect and direct ones. Results are as follow. First, sexual attitudes and behaviors among the subjects are found being different, depending on such variables as sex, religion and dating experiences. Secondly, while being related with both indirect and direct sexual behaviors, the variable of co-residence with parents is significantly related with the aspect of permissiveness, but not with the other three aspects. Thirdly, the parent-child communication is significantly related with sexual attitudes. One who has an open pattern of communication with parents tends to have more desirable sexual attitudes and is better able to control sexual behaviors.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of children's temperament, parent-child communication, peer relationships on children's cognitive and affective happiness. The participants consisted of 396 elementary school students aged 10-13 dwelling in Jeonbuk province. Data was analyzed through descriptive statistics, t-test, regression analysis using the SPSS 18.0 program. The most salient results from this study were as follows: first, there were statistically significant differences in the children's happiness according to academic performance and family's economic level; children who considered themselves to have good grades and to have a higher standard of living were happier than other groups. However, there was no significant difference in children's happiness in relation to gender. Second, children's temperament(sociability, activity), parent-child open communication and peer relationships were positively associated with the children's cognitive and affective happiness. Children's emotional temperament, parent-child problem communication were negatively associated with the children's cognitive and affective happiness. Third, as the results of regression analysis, parent-child open communication, children's temperament(activity, sociability), peer relationships were considered to be the most influential factors in explaining cognitive happiness. And parent-child open communication, parent-child problem communication, children's temperament(activity) were influential factors in explaining affective happiness. In conclusion, children's happiness is critically affected not only by internal variables but also environmental ones such as parents and peers.
This study is designed to find out the effect of communication between parents and adolescents, and their goal orientation on academic self-efficacy, especially among second-year high school students based on all their family and social environments. For such purposes, a variety of data regarding background variables, communication between parents and adolescents, goal orientation, and academic self-efficacy were collected in Seoul and Goyang-si, Gyunggi-do. The major results of this study are as follows: First, the female high-school students showed a higher efficiency than the male ones when it comes to the communication between parents and adolescents. For the goal orientation, the girl students marked higher levels than the male counterparts; speaking of self-regulated efficiency, the former illustrated a much higher level than the latter as well. Second, academic self-efficacy is greatly influenced by goal orientation. The higher mastery and performance-approach goals are, the higher academic self-efficacy is. It has turned out that mastery goals have significant relationship with task difficulty performance, one of the sub-scales of academic self-efficacy. In addition, performance-approach goals proved to be deeply connected with self-regulated efficiency, but performance-avoidance goals were negative predictors of task difficulty performance and self-regulated efficiency. In turn, academic confidence, one of the sub-scales of academic self-efficacy, is believed to be under the influence of mastery goals and communication between fathers and adolescents.
This study investigates the effects of parent-adolescent communication, adolescent self-esteem, and strategies in peer conflict situations on the satisfaction of adolescents with their peer relationships. The subjects included students attending a girls' and a boys' middle school in Gongju City. Random sampling was used to pick a class from each of the three grades in the schools. 233 students, who's both parents were living, were used in the final analysis in an effort to examine the impacts of student communication with parents on student satisfaction with their friends. The findings were as follows: the subjects most often used the yielding type of conflict-resolving strategy, followed by the cooperating, compromising, dominating, and avoiding strategy-type. The girls showed a higher level of parent-child communication than the boys. Girls had high self-esteem and mostly adopted the cooperating type of conflict-resolving strategies, followed by the yielding, compromising, dominating and avoiding strategy-type. The boys mostly employed the yielding strategy type followed by the cooperating, compromising, dominating, and avoiding strategy-types. The results indicate that the satisfaction level with friends was high among those who used the avoiding strategy-type less and yielding strategy-type more. Girls were found to have high self-esteem and engaged in communication with their parents. The compromising, cooperating, and dominating types of conflict-resolving strategies did not exercise significant influences on their satisfaction with friends.
The purposes of this study were to analyze the effect of perceived parent-adolescent communication on SNS addiction tendency among high school students and to investigate the mediating effects of self-control on the relationship between above variables. 567 students who were registered in three high schools located in D city completed a questionnaire on parent-adolescent communication, SNS addiction tendency, and self-control. Structural equation models were conducted to compare the research model (complete mediating effect) and the competing model (partial mediating effect), and bootstrapping was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of self-control with SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0. The results are as follow: First, while the parent-adolescent communication did not directly have an effect the SNS addiction tendency, the self-control had a direct effect on the SNS addiction tendency. Second, the research model was selected as a final model which implied that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect on SNS addiction tendency among high school students. Third, self-control had a significant mediating effect on the relationship between parent-adolescent communication and high school students' SNS addiction tendency. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that parent-adolescent communication had an indirect effect rather than a direct effect through self-control on high school students' SNS addiction tendency. This result indicates that the SNS addiction tendency rate of high school student can be lowered, by mediating self-control. Finally, this study suggests that the implicit points on counseling methods to remedy self-control of high school students, and shortcomings and limits of this study and advice for follow-up studies all be discussed.
