Analysis of Composite Sandwich Plates with a Local Shear Deformations (국부전단변형을 고려한 복합샌드위치 평판의 해석)

  • The composite sandwich plate is constructed by combining two laminated facings with high strength and a thick core of light weight material. The governing equations for the analysis of bending of simply supported sandwich plates with laminated facings are derived and analysed using the analytical method including the local shear deformations. The accuracy of the approach is ascertained by comparing solutions from the sandwich plate theory with composite facings to the laminate plate theory. Since the present analysis considers the bending stiffness of the core and also the transverse shear deformations of the laminated facings, it is expected that the analysis is capable to analyze the general anisotropic laminated plates with global shear deformations.

Manufacture and Evaluation of Small Size PEMFC Stack Using Carbon Composite Bipolar Plate (탄소복합소재 분리판을 이용한 소형 고분자전해질 연료전지 스택 제작 및 성능분석)

  • Small size polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stacks were prepared using carbon composite and graphite bipolar plates and their performances were evaluated on reactant gas and operating time. In comparison to single cell and stack, it was identified that home-made bipolar plate was well-designed to maximize stack performance as high as that of single cell. During long-term operation, the performances of stacks using two different kinds of bipolar plates were compared. The decrease of performance in both stacks was accelerated with increasing load current. It was observed from stack test that the stack performance using carbon composite bipolar plate was very similar to that using graphite bipolar plate.

Prediction of Fatigue life of Composite Laminates using Micromechanics of Failure (미시역학적 파손이론을 이용한 복합재 적층판의 피로수명 예측)

  • Many tests are required to predict the fatigue life of composite laminates made of various materials and having different layup sequences. Aiming at reducing the number of tests, a methodology was presented in this paper to predict fatigue life of composite laminates based on fatigue life prediction of constituents, i.e. the fiber, matrix and interface, using micromechanics of failure. For matrix, the equivalent stress model which is generally used for isotropic materials was employed to take care of multi-axial fatigue loading. For fiber, a maximum stress model considering only stress along fiber direction was used. The critical plane model was introduced for the interface of the fiber and matrix, but fatigue life prediction was ignored for the interface since the interface fatigue strength was presumed high enough. The modified Goodman equation was utilized to take into account the mean stress effect. To check the validity of the theory, the fatigue life of three different GFRP laminates, UDT[$90^{\circ}2$], BX[${\pm}45^{\circ}$]S and TX[$0^{\circ}/{\pm}45^{\circ}$]S was examined experimentally. The comparison between predictions and test measurements showed good agreement.

Car License-Plate Extraction using Color Information and Intensity Vector (색상 정보와 명암 벡터를 이용한 차량 번호판 추출)

  • 본 논문에서는 주차 단속의 자동화를 위해 입력된 차량 영상으로부터 번호판 영역의 복합 색상 정보와 명암 벡터를 이용하여 번호판 영역을 추출하는 알고리즘을 제안한다. 일반적으로 명암도 영상에서는 번호판 영역의 숫자나 문자와 배경간의 명암도 변화는 뚜렷하게 나타나고, 다른 영역에 비하여 명암벡터의 밀집도가 높다는 특징을 가지고 있다. 이러한 특징을 이용하여, 번호판 영상의 하측 라인부터 명암 벡터의 부호 변화가 임계치 이상으로 나타나고, 자가용 또는 영업용 번호판 색상이 일정 수준으로 검출되는 구간을 번호판 영역으로 검출하고 이를 기준으로 대략 박스를 설정한다. 정교한 번호판 영역은 수직 소벨 에지 영상의 프로젝션으로 추출한다. 제안한 알고리즘을 평가하기 위하여, 다양한 시간과 장소에서 촬영되고 차량 주변의 복잡한 배경이 충분히 포함된 총 100장의 주차 단속 영상을 사용하였다. 실험 결과, 명암벡터와 색상정보를 함께 사용한 제안한 방법 이 명암벡터만을 사용한 방법에 비해 약 10% 향상된 97%의 번호판 추출률을 보였으며, 차량 종류의 자동 구분도 가능하였다.

A New Method to Determine the Characteristic Lengths for the Failure Analysis of Composite Joint (복합재 체결부의 파손해석을 위한 새로운 특성길이 결정 방법)

  • Proposed is a new method to determine the characteristic lengths for the failure analysis of composite joint without experiments. New method uses the result that the stress distribution in the characteristic length specimens is linearly proportional to the applied load. The compressive characteristic lengths calculated by the present method are exactly same as the lengths obtained by the conventional method based on experiment. The new tensile characteristic length is defined using the strength of the notched laminate, while previous methods use the strength of the sound laminate. That change allows calculating the tensile characteristic length numerically without experiment like the compressive characteristic length. Finite element analyses are conducted by MSC/NASTRAN. The interface between the fastener and laminate is modeled by the contact surface element. The finite element results based on the new characteristic lengths show the excellent agreement with experimental results for the Graphite/Epoxy composite .joints.

Stacking Sequence Design of Fiber-Metal Laminate Composites for Maximum Strength (강도를 고려한 섬유-금속 적층 복합재료의 최적설계)

  • FMLC(Fiber-Metal Laminate Composites) is a new structural material combining thin metal laminate with adhesive fiber prepreg, it nearly include all the advantage of metallic materials, for example: good plasticity, impact resistance, processibility, light weight and excellent fatigue properties. This research studied the optimum design of the FMLC subject to various loading conditions using genetic algorithm. The finite element method based on the shear deformation theory was used for the analysis of FMLC. Tasi-Hill failure criterion and Miser yield criterion were taken as fitness functions of the fiber prepreg and the metal laminate, respectively. The design variables were fiber orientation angles. In genetic algorithm, the tournament selection and the uniform crossover method were used. The elitist model was also used to be effective evolution strategy and the creeping random search method was adopted in order to approach a solution with high accuracy. Optimization results were given for various loading conditions and compared with CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic). The results show that the FMLC is more excellent than the CFRP in point and uniform loading conditions and it is more stable to unexpected loading because the deviation of failure index is smaller than that of CFRP.

  • Because the attenuation of AE signal in composite materials is relatively higher than that of metallic materials, it is required to develop a damage assessment technique less affected by the attenuation property of composite materials in order to use AE sensing as a damage detection method. In the signal processing procedure, it is profitable to use the leading wave that arrives first because the leading wave is less influenced by the boundary conditions. Using wavelet transform, we investigated the frequency characteristics of impact induced AE signals focused on the leading wave in advance and chose the key factors to discriminate the damaged condition quantitatively. In this research, we established a damage assessment technique using the sharing percentage of the wavelet detail components of AE signal, and conducted a low-velocity impact test on composite laminates to confirm the feasibility of the proposed signal processing method.

A Study on the Stiffnesses of the Advanced Composite Laminated Plates (복합신소재 적층판의 강성에 대한 연구)

  • Compared with conventional construction materials such as steel and concrete, the advanced composite materials are corrosion-free, light-weight, and when used as construction materials, the construction period can be made less than one-tenth needed for conventional materials. However, because of the difficult theories and formulas, the ordinary construction engineers have difficulties in understanding and calculating formulas needed in construction. In this paper, calculation of the stiffnesses of the advanced composite laminated plates and compared with the result of stiffnesses.

  • A method is proposed which can be used to obtain the fibesr content distribution of compression molded long fiber-reinforced thermoplastic sheet for nonisothermal state. The fiber is modelled to be a sphere. Once the one-dimensional unsteady state heat conduction equation in solved, the mean temperature in defined across the thickness direction. The viscosity of matrix is determined with the mean temperature. Using the obtained viscosity, two-dimensional sheet0like part compression molding is simulated with the finite element method. Comparison with experiments shows that the method accurately predicts the distribution.

  • This paper presents the optimization of CFRP laminated rectangular plates using fuzzy theory. In optimization, thickness of CFRP lamina and fiber angle are taken as design variables, and total thickness of the plates is minimized under Tsai-Hill failure criterion. The uncertainties are entered by introducing fuzzy material strengths and then the objective and constraints are represented by a membership function of their own according to the intersection method. Various design results are presented for the CFRP laminated composites plates.
