  • In case that a general cusp-crack shaped inclusion expressed in a polynominal form of conformal mapping function exists in a two dimensional elastic body under uniform heat flow, the complex potential and thermal stress intensity factors are derived. Two thermal boundary conditions are considered, one an insulated rigid inclusion and the other a rigid inclusion with fixed boundary temperature. The previous solutions of the thermal stress intensity factors for symmetrical airfoil and lip type rigid inclusions are obtained from the general solution of the thermal stress intensity factors.

  • In general, a nonlinear system is linearized in the form of a multiplication of the 1st and 2nd order system. This paper reports a design method of a weighting matrix and control law of LQ control to move the double poles that have a Jordan block to a pair of complex conjugate poles. This method has the advantages of pole placement and the guarantee of stability, but this method cannot position the poles correctly, and the matrix is chosen using a trial and error method. Therefore, a relation function (𝜌, 𝜃) between the poles and the matrix was derived under the condition that the poles are the roots of the characteristic equation of the Hamiltonian system. In addition, the Pole's Moving-range was obtained under the condition that the state weighting matrix becomes a positive semi-definite matrix. This paper presents examples of how the matrix and control law is calculated.

  • This study derives the expressions of vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor due to an elliptical cylinder. The vector gravity for an arbitrary three-dimensional (3D) body is obtained by differentiating the gravitational potential, including the triple integral, according to the shape of the body in each axis direction. The vector gravity of the 3D body with axial symmetry is integrated along the axial direction and reduced to a double integral. The complex Green's theorem using complex conjugates subsequently converts the double integral into a one-dimensional (1D) closed-line integral. Finally, the vector gravity due to the elliptical cylinder is derived using 1D numerical integration by parameterizing a boundary of the elliptical cross-section as a closed line. Similarly, the gravity gradient tensor due to the elliptical cylinder is second-order differentiated from the gravitational potential, including the triple integral, and integrated along the vertical axis direction reducing it to a double integral. Consequently, all the components of the gravity gradient tensor due to an elliptical cylinder are derived using complex Green's theorem as used in the case of vector gravity.

  • The formulas taking into account the fundamental features of a meteoric radio propagation are obtained. Numerical simulation analysis has shown complex space structure of a field. Time behavior of intensity are researched taking into account nonstationary model. It is shown, this behavior essentially depends on parameters of a meteor trail, and that there is large variety of time dependencies of the signal intensity at the single scattering. In particular, at appropriate parameters of a meteor underdense trail it is possible large duration meteor bursts with which usually refer to an overdense meteor propagation.

  • For the aim of thin electromagnetic wave absorbers used in mobile telecommunication frequency band (0.8-2.0㎓), we investigate high-frequency magnetic, dielectric and microwave absorbing properties of iron particles dispersed in rubber matrix in this study. The major experimental variables are particle shape (sphere and flake) and initial particle size (in the range 5-70 $\mu\textrm{m}$) of iron powders. High value of magnetic permeability and dielectric permittivity can be obtained in the composites containing thin plate-shape (flake) iron particles (of which thickness is less than skin depth in ㎓frequency), which can be produced by mechanical forging of spherical iron powders using an attrition mill. This result is attributed to the reduction of eddy current loss (increase of permeability) and the increase of space charge polarization (increase of permeability). The optimum initial particle size is found to be about 10 $\mu\textrm{m}$ for the attainment of the material parameters (particularly, real part of complex permeability) satisfying the wave impedance matching. With the iron powders controlled in size and shape as absorbent fillers in rubber matrix, the thickness can be reduced to about 0.7mm with respect to -5㏈ reflection loss (70% power absorption) in mobile telecommunication frequency band.

  • In this paper, we propose the complex differential diagram to classify surface plasmon waveguide modes with single interface. To date, surface plasmon waveguide modes are classified using the sign change of the group velocity in the dispersion relation that describes the interrelations between the real wavenumber of the propagation direction and the photon energy. The surface plasmon waveguide modes have the wavenumbers of the direction perpendicular to that in which the wave propagates as well as of the propagation direction, so it is necessary to classify the modes using all of these wavenumbers. The complex differential diagram is a graphical representation with variables of the difference between the real component and the imaginary component of the wavenumber. Using this diagram, the specific mode classification is possible, and it is easy to comprehensively analyze the wavenumber as the function of the photon energy.

  • In this paper, the vector gravity and gravity gradient tensor of an elliptical disk are derived. The vector gravity of an elliptical disk is defined by differentiating the gravitational potential due to the elliptical disk expressed by a double integral with respect to each axial direction. The vector gravity defined by the double integral is then transformed into a line integral of a closed curve along the elliptical disk boundary using the complex Green's theorem. Finally, vector gravity due to the elliptical disk is derived by 1D parametric numerical integration along the elliptical disk boundary. The xz, yz, zz components of the gravity gradient tensor due to the elliptical disk are obtained by differentiating the vector gravity with respect to vertical direction. The xx, yy, xy components are derived by differentiating the horizontal components of the vector gravity in the form of a double integral with respect to horizontal directions and then using the complex Green's theorem.

  • Under uniform heat flow, the thermal stress intensity factors for the interfacial crack on a rigid cusp-type inclusion are determined by Hilbert problem expressed with complex variable. The thermal stress intensity factors are expressed in terms of the periodic function of heat flow angle. When the tip of the interfacial crack meets that of the cusp crack, the thermal stress intensity factors have singularities. The thermal stress intensity factors at the interfacial crack tip located in the distance from the cusp crack tip vary with the location of the interfacial crack tip. From the results of the analysis, the complex potential functions and the thermal stress intensity factors for the cusp-type inclusion without the interfacial crack are derived under the cusp surface boundary conditions insulated or fixed to zero relative temperature.

  • Complex modal testing is employed for the in-situ parameter identification of a four-axis active magnetic bearing system while the system is in operation. In the test, magnetic bearings are used as exciters as well as actuators for feedback control. The experimental results show that the directional frequency response function, which is properly defined in the complex domain, is a powerful tool for identification of bearing as well as modal parameters. It is also shown that the position and current stiffnesses can be accurately estimated using the relations between the measured forces, displacements, and currents.
