  • The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship between caregivers' characteristic variables and quality of child care and to investigate the magnitude of the association between variables and quality of child care according to children's age. The following factors were suggested as the caregivers' characteristic variables: Total years of caregiving experience, educational level, job satisfaction, amounts of turnover, time for commuting, salary, pay step, years of work in charge of current children, perception on the recommended caregiver/child ratio. The results of the study were as follows : First, it was found that caregivers' salary, total years of caregiving experience, pay step, perception on the recommended caregiver/child ratio, age, and amounts of in-service program were significant among caregivers' variables. Second, when the caregivers' characteristic variables were examined in terms of children's age respectively, the effects of teacher-related variables to influence the child-care quality were significantly different according to children's age group.

  • Objective: This study explores the correlation between adult attachment, empathy, and teacher efficacy among childcare teachers. Additionally, it analyzes the mediating effect of empathy on the relationship between adult attachment and teacher efficacy. Methods: The survey, conducted from July to August 2023, involved 198 childcare teachers as participants. Data Analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0 and the Process Macro. Results: First, a significant correlation was identified between childcare teachers' adult attachment (avoidance) and empathy, as well as between adult attachment (avoidance) and teacher efficacy among childcare teachers. Second, the study observed a partial mediating effect of empathy in the relationship between adult attachment (avoidance) and teacher efficacy. In essence, this research confirmed both the direct effect of avoidance attachment in childcare teachers on teacher efficacy and the indirect effect mediated by empathy. Conclusion/Implications: This research affirms the impact of adult attachment and empathy on teacher efficacy among childcare teachers, discussing implications for future training and development.

  • Objective: This study aimed to develop a parent play interaction observation scale (PPIOS-Toddler) and analyze it in terms of item discrimination, reliability, and validity. Methods: The subjects of the study were 97 toddlers and mothers. This scale consisted of three categories, six domains and 22 items on a 5-point scale. For the item discrimination of the observation scale, an independent standard t-test was conducted to analyze the significant difference in average between the upper and lower groups for each item. The reliability of the observation scale was calculated by Cronbach's α, the intra-item agreement, and the validity was examined through content validity, the correlation between subdomains and total scores, and official validity using PICCOLO. Results: In item discrimination analysis, all items exhibited differences between upper and lower groups. The overall internal agreement for the observation scale was 0.95, with factor-specific internal agreement ranging from 0.83 to 0.95. The observation scale demonstrated notable correlations between total scores and sub-factors (0.45 to 0.93) and significant correlations with PICCOLO total scores (0.66 to 0.86). Conclusion/Implications: The study successfully verified the item discrimination, reliability, and validity of the Parent Play Interaction Observation Scale (PPIOS-Toddler).

  • It is becoming common that the lack of child care due to changes in social structure and family function should be serviced at society and at the national level. Interest in child care services in child care facilities also increased. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of organizational culture on child care respect for young children's rights that is needed to improve the quality of child care services. The questionnaire was administered to 340 day care teachers working in day care facilities and statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 statistical program. An analysis of the impact of organizational culture on child care among infants and toddlers showed that development culture, rational culture, collective culture, and hierarchical culture, which are sub-factors of organizational culture, have statistically significant on day -to-day respect, and child- first interests. The degree of influence was shown in the order of development culture, hierarchical culture, and rational culture. In particular, the influence of group culture is very low, which has been proven to differ depending on the type of organizational culture. These results show that the organizational culture of child care facilities affects child care respect for young children's rights. In the end, we suggested the theoretical and practical implications of this study, presented limitations and future research directions.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate role perception, knowledge, self-confidence of practice, and educational needs of child daycare teachers' infectious disease management and to identify their relationship. A correlation study was conducted. Participants were 180 child daycare teachers. Almost eighty percent(78.9%) of participants did not received infectious disease management education. The mean percent of correct answers for infectious disease management knowledge of participants was 52.3% and their self-confidence of practice of infectious disease management was low. However, their role perception of infectious disease management and educational needs were high. Educational needs on 'hand washing and hygiene to prevent infectious diseases', 'blocking transmission of infectious diseases', 'infectious disease specific management and care', and 'infectious disease specific symptoms' were high. Child daycare teachers' role perception of infectious disease was positively correlated with their knowledge and educational needs. Development and evaluation of educational interventions to improve child daycare teachers' infectious disease prevention and management are recommended. • The purpose of this study was to compare the school readiness between children in low-income families and children in non-low-income families. In particular, it examined the influence of family's income levels child's age and gender upon children's school readiness. The subjects were 184 children that were 4~5 years. The collected data were analysed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA, two-way ANOVA, and Scheffe test. The results showed that the school readiness of children from non-low-income families's was higher than children from low-income families. The school readiness was explained significantly by the interaction effect of children's age and gender. However, there was no difference in children's school readiness according to the participation in Dream Start. The findings suggest that the level of income is the key factor in differences of children's school readiness. Finally, the importance of social support of low-income children and development of effective Dream Start programs was discussed.
