Influence of Indenter Tip Geometry and Poisson's Ratio on Load-Displacement Curve in Instrumented Indentation Test (계장화 압입시험의 하중-변위 곡선에 미치는 선단 형상 및 푸아송비의 영향)

  • The tip geometries of the pyramidal and conical indenters used for micro/nano-indentation tests are not sharp. They are inevitably rounded because of their manufacturability and wear. In many indentation studies, the tip geometries of the pyramidal indenters are simply assumed to be spherical, and the theoretical solution for spherical indentation is simply applied to the geometry at a shallow indentation depth. This assumption, however, has two problems. First, the accuracy of the theoretical solution depends on the material properties and indenter shape. Second, the actual shapes of pyramidal indenter tips are not perfectly spherical. Hence, we consider the effects of these two problems on indentation tests via finite element analysis. We first show the relationship between the Poisson's ratio and load-displacement curve for spherical indentation, and suggest improved solutions. Then, using a possible geometry for a Berkovich indenter tip, we analyze the characteristics of the load-displacement curve with respect to the indentation depth.

Estimation of Displacements Using Artificial Intelligence Considering Spatial Correlation of Structural Shape (구조형상 공간상관을 고려한 인공지능 기반 변위 추정)

  • An artificial intelligence (AI) method based on image deep learning is proposed to predict the entire displacement shape of a structure using the feature of partial displacements. The performance of the method was investigated through a structural test of a steel frame. An image-to-image regression (I2IR) training method was developed based on the U-Net layer for image recognition. In the I2IR method, the U-Net is modified to generate images of entire displacement shapes when images of partial displacement shapes of structures are input to the AI network. Furthermore, the training of displacements combined with the location feature was developed so that nodal displacement values with corresponding nodal coordinates could be used in AI training. The proposed training methods can consider correlations between nodal displacements in 3D space, and the accuracy of displacement predictions is improved compared with artificial neural network training methods. Displacements of the steel frame were predicted during the structural tests using the proposed methods and compared with 3D scanning data of displacement shapes. The results show that the proposed AI prediction properly follows the measured displacements using 3D scanning.

  • 유연도법 기반의 공식화에서는 변위영역의 형상함수를 라그랑지언(Lagrangian)보간법에 의한 곡률로부터 횡방향 변위를 유도한다. 곡률변위보간법으로 유도한 매트릭스를 사용한 기하학적 비선형 해석방법과 강성도법을 기반으로 한 비선형 기존의 유한요소 해석 프로그램의 결과를 비교하여 적용이 가능함을 확인하였고, Spacone의 이론을 확장시켜 기하학적 비선형 거동을 예측할 수 있는 유연도법의 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 예제를 통하여 실제 문제에 대한 기하학적 비선형 해석을 수행하였다.

A Surface Displaced From a Manifold (다양체 기반의 변위곡면)

  • 본 논문에서는 다양체 (manifold) 구조와 스칼라 변위함수 (scalar displacement function)에 기반한 새로운 변위곡면 (displaced surface)의 표현 기법을 제안한다. 변위곡면은 제어메쉬 (control mesh)의 각 정점에서 변위된 국소적 패치들 (displaced local patches)을 블렌딩 (blending)함으로써 생성된다. 제안된 변위곡면은 점 군 (point cloud)의 형태로 주어진 기하학적 모델을 근사하기 위해서 사용된다. 점 군의 데이터로터 제어메쉬가 생성되고, 점 군의 점들이 제어메쉬의 국소적 패치들 (local patches)에 사영 (projection)되어 각 패치들로 부터의 스칼라 변위함수가 구해지고, 이러한 변위함수들을 최적화 하여 높은 정밀도를 갖는 최종적인 곡면을 생성된다. 점 군의 형태로 주어진 다양한 모델에 대한 실험 결과를 통해서 제안된 근사기법의 효율성과 정밀도가 입증된다. 본 논문에서 제안된 표현기법은 다 단계 (multi-level) 변위함수를 통해 다중해상도 표현 (multi-resolution representations)과 골격기반 형상변형 (skeleton-driven deformation)등과 같은 다양한 응용들에 효율적으로 사용된다.

Shape Optimum Design of Cantilever with Weight and Journal Bearing Cap (자중을 고려한 외팔보와 저널 베어링 덮개의 형상 최적설계)

  • In the field of shape optimum design, much efforts are needed in regridding method and shape design sensitivity analysis. In this paper, Bezier curve is used to make the boundary of a structure and the improved direct differentiation method is used to calculate the shape design sensitivity. To regrid the finite element model, modified displacement field is presented in this paper. The modified displacement field makes more fine grid at large curvature. The purpose of this paper is to obtain the optimum shape of a cantilever with weight and a 3-dimensional journal bearing cap.

An Improved Method for Initial Shape Analysis of Subpension Bridges (현수교의 개선된 초기형상 해석법)

  • The extended tangent stiffness matrices and force-deformation relations of the elastic catenary element were initially derived through the addition of the unstrained length of cables to unknown nodal 'displacements. A beam-column element was then introduced to model the deck and pylon of cable-stayed bridges. The conventional geometric nonlinear analysis, initial force method, and TCUD method were summarized, with an effective method combining two methods presented to determine the initial shapes of cable-stayed bridges with dead loads. In this combined method, TCUD method was applied to eliminate vertical and horizontal displacements at cable-supported points of decks and on top of pylons, respectively. The initial force method was also adopted to eliminate horizontal and vertical displacements of decks and pylons. Finally, the accuracy and validity of the proposed combined method were demonstrated through numerical examples.

  • 장미과(Rosaceae)에 속하는 딸기(Fragaria ananassa Duch.)는 비타민 C가 풍부하고 독특한 향기를 갖는 과채류로서 겨울에서 봄까지의 기간 동안 대부분 생식으로 소비되고 있다. 국내에서 재배되는 품종으로는 설향, 매향, 장희 등이 있으며 품종에 따라 성분과 함량이 다양하지만 일반적으로 유기산이 많아서 신맛과 단맛이 조화로운 특징이 있다. 소비자들이 딸기를 구입할 때 딸기가 포장된 상자에 모양이 일정하고 붉은 색상이 선명한 딸기에 호감을 갖게 된다. 딸기는 품종에 따라 기준이 되는 모양이 다르기 때문에 숙련된 선별사에 의해서 대부분 육안으로 선별되고 있는 실정이다. 하지만 개인적인 선별 능력의 차이와 주관적인 판단으로 인해 규격을 벗어난 딸기가 혼입되어 전체적인 품질 등급을 떨어뜨리는 경우가 종종 발생하기도 한다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 품종별로 기준이 되는 표준 형상과 비정상적인 모양의 기형 딸기를 객관적으로 판별하여 선별할 수 있는 영상 시스템을 구축하기 위해 수행되었으며 표준이 되는 딸기의 3차원 형상을 구축하기 위해 2차원 레이저 변위 센서를 이용하여 딸기의 입체 영상을 구축하고자 하였다. 실험을 위해 사용된 딸기는 시중에서 구입한 설향 품종이었으며 2차원 레이저 변위 센서는 라인 스캔 방식으로 1회 프로파일 스캔에 1,280개의 데이터 포인터를 획득할 수 있으며 분해능은 0.095~0.17 mm이었다. 상부에 부착된 2차원 레이저 변위 센서와 하부에 놓인 딸기의 거리는 100 mm였다. 획득한 딸기의 2차원 영상은 높이 차이를 이용하여 색상 농도로 표현하였으며 이 영상을 다시 3차원 영상으로 구축하였다.

Characteristic Analysis of Displacement Behavior of Hollow Rollers with Cross Sectional Area Profiles (중공롤러의 절단면 형상변화에 따른 변형거동 특성해석)

  • In this paper, the displacement behavior characteristic of hollow rollers with various cross sectional area profiles and circular plate for load supporting capacity increment has been presented using a finite element method. The FEM results present that the hollow roller with X-shaped or Y-shaped columns between outer tube, middle tube and inner tube reduces a maximum displacement at the middle length of hollow rollers. And the circular plate, which is inserted at the middle of the hollow roller, is very useful to reduce the maximum displacement of hollow rollers with the plate thickness of 30~40mm. This paper presents the weight vs the maximum displacement ratio in which is represented for the optimized design as a function of a hollow roller total weight. The FEM analyzed results recommend the design model 4, 5 and 6 of hollow rollers for decreasing the ratio of maximum displacement and total weight of hollow rollers.

Minimization of the Bending Deflection of the Human-powered Aircraft Wing Induced by Change of an Incidence Angle (인간동력항공기의 붙임각 변화에 따른 날개 끝단 굽힘변위 최소화 연구)

  • Human-powered aircraft has wings with a shape of high aspect ratio which results in large bending displacement. This paper aims to improve the structural limitation by changing an incidence angle of the wings. The tendency change of bending displacement at the wing tip is observed assuming that airfoil and cross-sectional shape of the wing is fixed, and amount of the total lift generated is satisfied. Quasi-steady lift, drag and the aerodynamic moment are distributed with regard to sections of the wing. Those are analyzed using a numerical nonlinear lifting-line method and 'geometrically exact beam' (GEB) program in EDISON. 'Variational Asymptotic Beam Sectional Analysis' (VABS) program is used to check if the present wing is structurally solid. Furthermore, the predicted tip deflections are verified by comparing with DYMORE.

Optimum Cam Profile Design and Experimental Verification on an OHC Type Cam-valve System (OHC형 캠-밸브 기구의 최적 캠 형상설계 및 실험적 검증)

  • In this work, a 6 degree of freedom lumped mass model is constructed for an OHC-type cam valve train analysis, and the model is verified experimentally. Using the verified model, an optimum cam profile is designed to minimize the maximum contact force between cam and follower under the constraints such as cam lift and cam event angle. The designed cam was carefully machined and tested experimentally. As operating the designed cam shaft on the test rig, the valve motion was precisely measured with laser displacement meter and the contact force was indirectly monitored by measuring strain at a certain point of the finger follower. Judging from the model simulation and experiment results, the maximum contact force can be reduced as much as more than 16.7 percent under maintaining the original valve flow area by adopting the optimum cam profile.
