  • In this study, quantitative analysis on effect of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of concrete using BFS was studied. Especially, it analyze section data statistically which hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage rise, and it appeared the correlation of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage as well as quantitative coefficients of the main properties. As a result, the section which hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage of BFS-50 rise rapidly is delayed than OPC, but the slope of hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage in that section appeared similar shape in each mixing. Finally it will be possible to control the amount of autogenous shrinkage because hydration heating velocity and autogenous shrinking velocity are decreased by using BFS.

  • The purpose of this study to investigate the bond strength of recycled coarse aggregate concrete deteriorated by freezing and thawing. Concrete specimens with recycled coarse aggregate representing lower limit of the quality standard (water absorption : 3.0%, specific gravity : $2.5g.cm^3$) were manufactured and tested. The replacement ratio (0, 30, 60 and 100%) of recycled coarse aggregate and freezing-thawing cycles were considered in this test. From the test results, it was found that the bond strength of normal strength concrete is not affected by the replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate under freezing and thawing conditions. Also, the bond strength of the natural and recycled coarse aggregate concrete using AE admixtures was not decreased by frost action.

  • Recently, active researches are conducted on high performance concrete(HPC) exhibiting high strength and high fluidity. These researches are resulting in increased applications on real structures. In order to satisfy the required performances, HPC makes use of large quantities of binder and presents low water-cementitious material ratio. Such mixing is increasing significantly the autogenous shrinkage, which subsequently is likely to favor the potential development of cracks. Therefore, we investigated the effect of used materials and mix proportions on the shrinkage properties of HPC, and of the use of expansive additives and shrinkage reducing agents on the HPC. The autogenous shrinkage of HPC using blast furnace slag are tend to be increased, in some case have the potential development of cracks by only the autogenous shrinkage. Also the using method in combination with expansive additive and shrinkage reducing agent is more effective than the separately using method of that.

  • This study, with the purpose for early quality improvement of concrete which used large quantity of fly ash, changed various admixture material type and reviewed the basic characteristics. First off, the flow overall was highest when polycarb onic Acid high early strength AE water reducing agent was displaced, while air amount satisfied target level only in the case of plain, and setting time was shown best by getting 30 more minutes than plain and about 3 more hours than conventional when KOH is displaced. Compressive strength was shown best at age 1 day and 3 days when KOH was displaced, and at age 28 days when fine particle cement was displaced. By and large, this study concludes that concrete quality improvement admixture material that used large amount of fly ash showed worse effects than plain, therefore it is determined that there need be more study for development of concrete early quality improvement admixture material that used large amount of fly ash.

  • Direct tensile response of strain hardening cement composites(SHCC) depends primarily on the material's tensile response, which is a water cement ratio, direct function of fiber and matrix characteristics, the bond between them, and the fiber volume fraction. This paper discusses effect of aspect ratio of the direct tensile response of SHCC with PET and PVA fibers. The main variables considered include the aspect ratio of PET fibers(Aspect ratio, ${\ell}/d_f$ : 150, 300, 600). For the same mixture proportion, PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600(Aspect ratio 300, 600) showed better overall behavior(Pseudo strain-hardening, Multiple cracking) than specimens with PET1.5+PVA0.5-150(Aspect ratio 150). Tensile strain of PET1.5+PVA0.5-300 and PET1.5+PVA 0.5-600 at ultimate tensile stress were 0.5, 2.0% respectively.

  • The aim of this study is to look into the metakaolin replacement ratio of blast furnace slag based alkali activated slag mortar and its mechanical characteristics according to changes in stimulant concentration. Metakaolin has high fineness, and therefore the fluidity becomes lower as the replacement ratio becomes higher. So in this study, a sufficient value of mixing water was provided to secure fluidity for the characteristic experiment, and a different W/B was derived for each specimen in order to make the fluidity identical. A characteristic experiment was conducted according to the mol concentration of NaOH, which was used as the mixing water that affects fluidity. Additionally, compressive strength measurement, observation of inner microstructure through SEM, acid resistance experiment, and neutralization resistance was conducted. The results of this study revealed that for a high concentration NaOH solution to have even fluidity, a high W/B is necessary, and the functions were enhanced, not degraded.

  • Influence of blend mode of extender oil on the properties of thermoplastic vulcanizates (TPVs), based on an ethylene-propylene-diene copolymer (EPDM) and a polypropylene (PP), was studied. The EPDM/PP TPVs were prepared in an open roll mill using two different modes in blending sequence of paraffinic oil and phenolic curative, i.e., Oil-Cure and Cure-Oil modes. Degree of cross-linking by gel fraction and properties such as hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, and melt flow rate were investigated as a function of extender oil content for the two modes. Little influence of the blend mode of extender oil on the degree of cross-linking and mechanical behaviors was observed. However, the use of Cure-Oil mode in the preparation of EPDM/PP TPVs resulted in a marked increase in the level of processability as reflected by melt flow index, as compared to the use of Oil-Cure mode.

  • Prepacked concrete has recently been used in the special constructions fields such as underwater concrete work, heavy-weight concrete work, underground structure work, partial repair works for damaged reinforced concrete structures. and polymer-modified mortars have been employed as grouting mortars for the prepacked concrete. The purpose of this study is to recommend the optimum mix design of polymer-modified grouting mortars for prepacked concrete. Polymer-modified mortars using SBR and EVA emulsions as admixture of grouting mortars for prepacked concrete are prepared with various mix proportions such as sand-binder ratio, fly ash replacement ratio, polymer-binder ratio. and tested for flowability, viscosity of grouting mortars, bleeding ratio, expansion ratio, flexural and compressive strengths of grouting mortars and compressive and tensile strengths of prepacked concretes. From the test results, it is apparent that polymer-modified mortars can be produced as grouting mortars when proper mix design is chosen. We can design the mix proportions of high strength mortars for prepacked concrete according to the control of mix design factors such as type of polymer, polymer-binder ratio, sand-binder ratio and fly ash replacement ratio. Water-binder ratio of plain mortars for a constant flowability value are in the ranges of 43% to 50%. SBR-modified mortar has a little water-binder ratios compared to those of plain mortar, however, EVA-modified mortar needs a high water-binder ratio due to a high viscosity of polymer dispersion. The expansion and bleeding ratios of grouting mortars are also controlled in the proper value ranges. Polymer-modified grouting mortars have good flexural. compressive and tensile strengths, are not affected with various properties with increasing fly ash replacement to cement and binder-sand ratio. In this study, SBR-modified grouting mortar with a polymer-binder ratio of 10% or less, a fly ash replacement of 10% to cement and a sand-binder ratio of 1.5 is recommended as a grouting mortar for prepacked concrete.

  • This paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of substitution of recycled coarse aggregate(RCA) under 13mm on the engineering properties of the concrete using gap graded coarse aggregates. Concretes with 0.4 of water to cement ratio(W/C) were fabricated to achieve 30MPa of design strength with coarse aggregate over 13mm in size with the maximum size of 25mm. RCA was substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 10% to 50% and crushed coarse aggregate under 13mm was also substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 20% to 40%, respectively. Test results indicated that the replacement of RCA up to 20% resulted in an increase of fluidity and strength. It also caused a decrease in the drying shrinkage due to dense packing effect by achieving continuous grading of mixed aggregates. For practical application of RCA, when properly substituted, the use of RCA enabled the concrete to reduce water contents and sand to aggregate ratio in mixing design stage of the concrete. And, it can also enhance the compressive strength of the concrete.
