Development of Silent Discharge Chamber with Al2O3 Dielectric Pellet to Improve Ozone Generation Characteristics (오존발생특성 향상을 위한 강유전성 알루미나 무성방전관의 개발)

  • Recently deep interests have been paid on the effective generation of ozone, which has been widely used for water treatment, deodorization, color removal, and chemical processing of exhausted smoke. The silent discharge reaction has been proposed as the most effective one in the many ozone generation methods, because the silent discharge can be generated under the conditions of lower applied voltage and power consumption, compared other ones. In this paper, in order to improve the ozone generation and ozone generation efficiency, the conventional silent discharge chamber with $Al_2O_3$ dielectric layer and tubular ferroelectric bed discharge reactor packed with $Al_2O_3$ pellets were made, and the silent discharge of the reactors were studied experimentally. The ozone generation characteristics are also discussed based on the discharge characteristics, especially on the wall charge accumulation properties and power consumption. The results show that the electric charges of discharge tube with bead are around 2.5 times as large as those without bead. In the discharge chamber packed with dielectric beads, the ozone concentration and the energy yield characteristics were also improved, compared with those in the conventional silent discharge reactor.

  • 본 연구에서는 재실자의 밀도가 높은 지하상가는 공간의 특성상 화재가 발생할 경우 다량의 유독가스의 발생 및 연기의 이동경로와 인간의 피난경로 일치로 인하여 피난안전에 큰 위험성이 있다고 사료된다. 이에 지하철 역사와 연결되어 있는 지하상가를 선정 후, 일본 피난안전성평가수법과 FDS(Fire Dynamic Simulator) 및 SIMULEX를 이용하여 비교 분석을 하였으며, 그 결과, 화재발생 후 6분이 경과 시 위험한 것으로 판단되었다. 그에 대한 대책으로 자연 배연구를 설치하여 시뮬레이션 수행을 한 결과 가시도확보 및 각 출구에서의 온도가 하강하는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

Desirable pH of Slurry in Desulfurization Absorber for a 1000 MW Coal Fired Power Plant (1000 MW급 석탄화력발전용 탈황흡수탑의 적정슬러리 pH)

  • This research is an experimental investigation to find the desirable pH of slurry in the desulfurization absorber for a 1000 ㎿ coal fired power plant, operating in compliance with the Air Environmental Conservation Act and the plant's internal regulations. In case the average sulfur dioxide concentration in inflow flue gas, ${\bar{C\;in}}$ [ppm] changed to 500 ppm, 550 ppm, 600 ppm and 635 ppm after fixing inflow flue gas flow rate, generator output, pressure drop in the absorber, and oxidation air flow rate, the desirable pH of the slurry in the absorber, was 5.0, 5.2, 5.3 and 5.4. Thus, it is recommended that the desirable pH of slurry is calculated using the correlation equation, $RpH=0.0018{\times}{\bar{C\;in}}+4,2031$ when the average sulfur dioxide concentration in the inflow flue gas is in the range of 500 ppm to 635 ppm.

  • To reduce the environmental pollution by $NO_x$ from ship engine, International maritime organization (IMO) announced Tier III regulation, which is the emmision regulation of ship's exhaust gas in Emission control area (ECA). Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) process is the most commercial $De-NO_x$ system in order to meet the requirement of Tier III regulation. In generally, commercial ceramic honeycomb SCR catalyst has been installed in SCR reactor inside marine vessel engine. However, the ceramic honeycomb SCR catalyst has some serious issues such as low strength and easy destroution at high velocity of exhaust gas from the marine engine. For these reasons, we design to metallic structured catalyst in order to compensate the defects of the ceramic honeycomb catalyst for applying marine SCR system. Especially, metallic structured catalyst has many advantages such as robustness, compactness, lightness, and high thermal conductivity etc. In this study, in order to support catalyst on metal substrate, coating slurry is prepared by changing binder. we successfully fabricate the metallic structured catalyst with strong adhesion by coating, drying, and calcination process. And we carry out the SCR performance and durability such as sonication and dropping test for the prepared samples. The MFC01 shows above 95% of $NO_x$ conversion and much more robust and more stable compared to the commercial honeycomb catalyst. Based on the evaluation of characterization and performance test, we confirm that the proposed metallic structured catalyst in this study has high efficient and durability. Therefore, we suggest that the metallic structured catalyst may be a good alternative as a new type of SCR catalyst for marine SCR system.

Desirable pH of Slurry in the Desulfurization Absorber for a 200 MW Anthracite Power Plant (200 MW급 무연탄 발전용 탈황 흡수탑에서 적정 슬러리pH)

  • In this study, Seochon Thermal Power Plant No.1 for anthracite coal was tested to find the proper operation range of limestone slurry pH in the absorber tower which can be operated continuously in compliance with the Air Quality Preservation Act and Seocheon Thermal Power Division's internal regulation, sulfur dioxide average emission regulation. When operating the sulfur dioxide concentration [ppm] in the combustion gas flowing into the desulfurization absorption tower at 370, 400, 460 and 550 ppm while the main operating elements such as the flow rate of the combustion gas were fixed, the proper slurry pH Were 4.4, 4.5, 4.8 and 5.1, respectively. Therefore, it is recommended to operate with the correlation equation, RpH=0.004×Cin+2.93 derived using sulfur dioxide and the appropriate slurry pH.

  • Theoretical reviews of integrated gasification combined cycle one of the clean coal technologies and trends in the study and technology development for high temperature desulfurization sorbents were investigated. Reactivity, durability and abrasion resistance is an important key for development of high temperature desulfurization sorbents, the kind of things include calcium, zinc, manganese, iron and copper-based sorbents. Current status of high temperature desulfurization sorbents, manufacturing techniques of zinc-based sorbent in advanced countries has commercialized. In case of Korea, various research studies are underway to commercialize the Zn and non Zn-based high temperature desulfurization sorbents to cheaper and superior capability using various supports.

  • In this study, we investigated NO oxidation characteristic that depends on available chlorine concentration and temperature of seawater which is treated by un-divided electrolysis. Reactant gas passed through bubbling reactors which is filled with electrolyzed water and then NO concentration change was analyzed. In the closed-loop electrolysis system, concentration of available chlorine increased with electrolysis time. The higher oxidation rate of NO to $NO_2$ was obtained with the higher concentration of available chlorine. Oxidation of NO was fast when temperature of electrolyzed water was high, in the case of same concentration of available chlorine.

Numerical Analysis on the Flue Gas Flow and Slurry Behavior in the Absorber of a Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) System (배연탈황설비 흡수탑 내 연소가스 및 슬러리의 거동에 관한 수치해석적 연구)

  • Numerical analysis had been performed to understand flow characteristics of the flue gas and slurry in the absorber of a flue gas desulphurization (FGD) system using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) technique. Two-fluid(Euler-Lagrangian) model had been employed to simulate physical phenomenon, which slurry particles injected through slurry spray nozzles fall down and bump into the flue gas inflowing through inlet duct. It was not necessary to adopt pre-defined pressure drop inside the absorber because interaction between flue gas and slurry particles was considered. Hundreds of slurry spray nozzles were considered with the spray velocity at the nozzles, swirl velocity and spreading angle. The results note that the flow disturbance of flue gas is found at the bottom of the absorber, and the current rising with high speed stream is observed in the opposite region of the inflow duct. The high speed stream is reduced as the flue gas goes up, because the high speed stream of flue gas dumps falling slurry particles due to momentum exchange between flue gas and slurry particles. In spite of some disproportion in slurry distribution inside the absorber, escape of slurry particles from the absorber facility is not observed. The pressure drop inside the absorber is mainly occurred at the bottom section.

Prediction of Cleaning Time of Desulfurization Absorber in a Oil-Fired Power Plant through the Operation Data (중유화력발전소의 운전자료를 이용한 탈황 흡수탑의 세정시기 예측)

  • 중유를 연소하는 D 발전소 탈황설비는 운전시간의 경과에 따라 흡수탑 중간층에 석고가 쌓이고 가스분사 파이프 내에 경질석고 스케일이 부착됨으로써 발전설비 및 탈황설비의 정상적인 운전이 어렵게 된다. 흡수탑 내부에 발생된 스케일을 제거하지 않을 경우에는 탈황효율의 저하에 따른 SO2 배출농도의 증가로 발전가능 최대출력의 하향조정이 발생되고 나아가 발전정지를 초래한다. 스케일 제거를 위한 탈황설비 세정은 발전가능 최대출력의 하향조정이 발생하는 시점으로 결정할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 탈황설비의 운전 자료를 분석하여 발전가능 최대출력의 하향조정이 발생되기 6주 전은 탈황설비 출구 SO2 농도값이 130ppm을 초과하고 동시에 흡수탑 차압은 380mmH2O을 초과하며, 직전 흡수탑 세정 이후 44주가 경과된 시점이 됨을 확인하였다. 그리고 흡수탑의 세정시기는 세정준비기간 6주와 발전가능 최대출력 하향이 발생되기 6주 전까지의 운전경과일수 44주를 더하여 직전 세정시점으로부터 50주가 경과된 시점임을 예측하였다.

Standardization of the Performance Test Procedure for Smoke Control System (제연설비 성능시험방법의 표준화)

  • Since hot toxic gas included in the fire is the most principal reason of the death and has the fluid mechanical characteristics unlike air, smoke control method appropriate for the figure and structure of a fire room is needed and each unit of the smoke control system requests high performance according to this characteristics, for which performance test procedures and evaluation criteria must be established. Domestic criteria involved with the smoke control consist of the pre-investigation by documents and the part inspection, which has lots of problems because they are far from the performance based evaluation method compared with the references of developed countries. Consequently, domestic and international references were compared and analyzed, problems being emerged and standardization scheme of the test procedure was presented.
