  • In this paper, the anode for molten carbonate fuel cell have been prepared by doctor blade method and microstructure, pore distribution, sintering test of the electrode were investigated. Component analysis were done by Scanning Electron Micrograph, porosimeter and sintering test apparatus. As a result, median pore size was 11.mu.m order at the major specimen and porosity was about 70%. And thickness loss of the electrode was 1.5% at Ni-10Co anode after sintering test.

  • The high-velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying coating technique has been considered a promising replacement for traditional electrolytic hard chrome plating (EHC), which caused environmental pollution and lung cancer due to toxic Cr6+. In this paper, two types of cermet coatings were prepared by HVOF spraying: WC-CoCr and WC-CrC-Ni coatings. The produced coatings were analyzed extensively in terms of the micro-hardness, porosity, crystalline phase and microstructure using a hardness tester, optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy (including energy dispersed spectroscopy (EDS)), respectively. The wear and friction behaviors of the coatings were evaluated comparatively by reciprocating sliding wear tests at 25 ℃, 250 ℃, and 450 ℃. The results revealed correlations among the microstructures, metallic binder matrixes, porosities, and wear performance of the coatings. For example, WC-CoCr coatings showed better sliding wear resistance than WC-CrC-Ni coatings, regardless of the test temperature due to the more homogeneous microstructure, Co-rich, Cr-rich metallic binder matrix, and lower porosity.

  • Porous alumina ceramics with aligned plate-shaped pores were fabricated by using thermoplastic microsphere in order to show the anisotropy in thermal conductivity. The mixed powder of alumina and microsphere was pressed under 15 MPa till 20$0^{\circ}C$ to deform polymer into platelet-shape and sintered at 1,00$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. The sintered specimen with 10 wt% microsphere has 45.3% porosity and the bending strength of 44 MPa. The microstructural investigation confirmed the pore structure of platelet-shape, the thermal conductivities for vertical and parallel directions are 3.803 W/mK and 7.818 W/mK, respectively, the ratio between two directions exceeds 2.

  • In this paper, effects on the heat transport limitation of heat pipe by the wick structural factors were theoretically analyzed for the sintered-copper wick heat pipe. Uniformity of particle size and sintering process were acted as dominant factors on the pore distribution and wick porosity, and small deviations of the wick thickness and the pore size greatly affected the heat transport limitations of the heat pipe. Especially, slight variations of the wick thickness, mean particle radius and capillary radius along the vapor temperatures and inclination angles remarkably changed the capillary limitation of the heat pipe.

  • A series of micro- and mesoporous activated carbons were prepared from phenolic resin using a metal treated chemical activation methodology. $N_2$-adsorption data were used to characterize the surface properties of the produced activated carbons. Results of the surface properties and pore distribution analysis showed that phenolic resin can be successfully converted to micro- and mesoporous activated carbons with specific surface areas higher than $962.3m^2/g$. Activated carbons with porous structure were produced by controlling the amount of metal chlorides($CdCl_2$, $CuCl_2$). Pore evolvement was shown to be most effected by the incremental addition of metal chloride. From the thermodynamic DSC data, enthalpy formations(${\Delta}H$) of first endothermic reaction were increase with the incremental addition of metal chloride.

  • In recent years, while the importance of thermal management has been emphasized due to smaller electronic products, various materials have been used as heat sink. In this study, porous ceramic heat sink was developed with SiC, successfully separated from the slurry of SiC occurring in solar energy materials industry and the thermal performance of porous SiC heat sink has been compared with those of aluminum heat sink and pure SiC heat sink through experiment. From the experimental results, it was verified that porous recycled SiC heat sink has better thermal performance than aluminum heat sink since its micropores increase the heat transfer area. In addition, the effect of the micropores on thermal performance has been quantified by increasing convective heat transfer coefficient with numerical analysis.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the applicability of a Cu-supported honeycomb catalyst as a catalyst for decomposition of a low toxic liquid propellant based on ammonium dinitramide (ADN). A mixture of copper, lanthanum, and alumina was supported on the honeycomb support by wash coating to prepare a Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst. We elucidated that the effect of metal loading on the physicochemical properties of Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst and catalytic performance in decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant. As the number of wash coatings increased, the amount of active metal Cu was increased to 4.1 wt%. The BET surface area of the Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst was in the range of 3.1~4.1 ㎡/g. The micropores were hardly present in Cu-La-Al/honeycomb catalysts, however, the mesopores and macropores were well developed. The Cu (2.7 wt%)-La-Al/honeycomb catalyst exhibited the highest activity in the decomposition of the ADN-based liquid propellant, which is attributed to the largest surface area, the largest pore volume, and the well-developed mesopores and macropores.
