  • This study is objected to estimate the variation of the coefficient of leachate according to designs in landfill cover systems. Design (a) is the unsanitary landfill cover system with 50 cm soil. But Design (b), (c) are sanitary cover systems which are composed of soil top layer, drainage layer, barrier liner(Design (b): Geomembrane(1.5 mm) and compacted clay liner(30 cm), Design (c) compacted clay liner(45 cm)), gas venting layer. Quantity of leachate estimates Rational Method generally and depend on the coefficient of leachate, on one of the factors in Rational Method largely. The coefficient of leachate is defined as the leachate production ratio result from incident precipitation. To estimate the variation of the coefficient of leachate, the authors use HELP(Hydrologic Evaluation of Landfill Performance) Simulation and Pilot Test. As a result of HELP Simulation, the coefficient of leachate is 0.36∼0.42 in Design (a) and 0.03∼0.15 in Design (b), (c) according to designs in landfill cover systems and quality of barrier liner placement. These numerical values are similar to 0.13 with the coefficient of leachate in Pilot Test.

  • Rammed Aggregate Pier (RAP) method is intermediate foundation between deep and shallow foundation, and it has been built in world wide. RAP represents a relatively new method that has grown steadily over 19 years since Geopier of USA developed this revolutionary method in 1989. The investigation and research in domestic is not accomplished. In this paper, the examined details of different spacing of piles, bearing capacities, respectively, conclude with recommendations on how RAP can be used in future needs. This documentation further provides comparisons of the laboratory test results which were obtained from changing the spacing of piles, namely installed rammed aggregate pier. Laboratory model test was administered in a sand box. Strain control test was conducted to determine the bearing capacities of the piers; 20 mm, 30 mm and 40 mm RAP in diameter using drilling equipment to make holes were installed in sand at initial relative densities of 40%. By comparing different spacing of piles, in this experiment, piles are spaced structually span, form a ring shape, narrowing the distance of each other, to the center. the result shows that as diameter of pier is bigger in diameter, bearing capacity also dramatically increased due to raised stiffness. Also, as the space between each piers was closed, the settlement rate of soil was decreased significantly. From the test results, as the space between each piles were getting closer, it allows greater chances to have more resistance to deformation, and shows more improved stability of structures. After from the verification work which is continuous leads the accumulation of the site measuring data which is various, and bearing capacity and the settlement is a plan where the research will be advanced for optimum installed RAP.

  • Decomposed granite soil is a Granitic Gneiss, and it is a c Korean peninsula. It is known a changed significantly when it is aim of this study is to evaluat utility of the constitutive laws. Firstly, triaxial tests were pe sites prepared by the laborato scrutinized the characteristics results were analysed and the p evaluated. Finally, the predicted Even though the origins of slight difference in the angle of pression line( A) : both soils show In the effective mean normal uniqueness of the Normal Compr The relationships between the the decomposed granite soil tier OCR is larger than 2, the stress stress(MDS) or. even thous moved below the theoretical Ros was found to coincide with the (NC) soils, the pore pressure parameter, A,, increased up to 1.3. This phenomenon might be mainly due to the effect of the particle crushing during shearing, When the OCR value approaches 7, the negative pore pressure is developed in undrained tests and the dilatancy is observed in drained tests. The predicted and the observed behavior of drained tests showed relatively good fitting with the Cam-Clay model.

  • Sand compaction pile and stone column replacement methods have been commonly used for improving soft ground in the nearshore. Recently, DCM (Deep cement mixing) method, which can harden soft clays by mixing with cement, is more popularly used in such soft ground improvement. Sandy soils also exist in the seashore. Therefore, in this study, the effect of salinity in sea water and curing methods on the strength of cemented sand was evaluated in terms of unconfined compressive strength (UCS). The sand was mixed with five different cement ratios and distilled water or sea water, and then compacted into a cylindrical specimen. They were cured for 3 days under sea water for DCM construction condition and air cured for onshore curing condition. When a specimen was cured under sea water without confinement, it was easily collapsed due to initiation of cracks. When the cement ratio and curing method were the same, the UCS of the specimen without sea water was at maximum 3.5 times higher than those with sea water. The sea water used for mixing sand had more influence on strength reduction than the sea water used for curing. When the cement ratio was the same, the UCS of air-cured specimen was at average 2 times higher than those of water-cured specimen, regardless of water used.

  • In period of rapid economic development, as doing river conservation work by using harmful materials environmental pollution has adversely effected humans, animals and plants frequently. For recovery of environmental pollution it needs a lot of time and cost. Therefore, in this study, in order to take an environment-friendly method which is also economical and durable both results of the laboratory model test and field test were compared and analyzed. According to the results of the laboratory model test, those methods such as concrete paving, asphalt paving, bentonite mat, stabilized soil method and mixed soil method have small amount of seepage, but on the other hand compaction soil, grassland and permeable materials have considerable amount of seepage. The results of field test show a similar tendency with laboratory test and have been satisfied to assess standard of domestic water permeability below $1.0{\times}10^{-7}cm/sec$ and unconfined compressive strength is also than 1.0MPa so it has been satisfied about standard. In conclusion, as compaction rate increased, as unconfined compression strength increased and coefficient of permeability decreased.

  • In this study, a circular pipe can be installed by suction pressure for construction on soft ground with a low-water level. A series of laboratory-scale model tests were conducted in sandy ground to comprehend the suction pressure of the circular pipe in low-water levels. For repeated tests on saturated sandy soil, a container was mounted with three vibration generators on the floor. A repetitive vibration was applied using the vibration system for ground compaction. In the model tests, different diameters and thicknesses on saturated sandy soil with a water depth were considered. The result showed that the suction pressure increased with increasing penetration depth of the circular pipe. Moreover, the suction pressure required to penetrate the pipe decreased with increasing diameter. In the low-water level, the total suction pressure measured at the top lid increased because additional suction pressure is required to lift the water column. On the other hand, this led to a decrease in suction pressure to penetrate the circular pipe because the weight of the water column is applied as a dead load. Therefore, it is necessary to consider the water level to design the required suction pressure accurately.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure. When the artificial soil ground is planted, the technical factors to be considered will be the load for buildings and the growth of plants. There are no current studies of the effect of artificial soil ground on a structure and this study will analyze the load effects of artificial soil ground, which mixes both pearlite and natural soil on structures. The load affecting the structures due to artificial soil ground will be maximized when the artificial soil ground becomes saturated, and which would occur when the rainfall intensity exceeds the infiltration capacity of the artificial soil ground. In order to determine whether the artificial soil ground has reached saturation or not, a 10 years frequency and 10 minutes rainfall intensity which is used for in urban drain design, is utilized. The hydraulic conductivity of artificial soil and mixed soil has been changed depending on the proportion of the mix, It has a range of fluctuation in the degree of hardening, in particular, but does not exceed the 10 minutes rainfall intensity over 10 years frequency in the most cases. Therefore, it would be efficient to apply the saturated unit weight of artificial soil ground as the design load of a structure.

  • This experiment was conducted, making use of the 'NONG-RIM6' arecommended variety of rice for the year of 1968. Main purposes of the experiment are to explore possibilities of; a) ways and means of saving irringation water and, b) overcoming drought at the same time so that an increased yield in rice could be resulted in. Specifically, it was tried to determine the effects of the Rotation irrigation method combined with differentiated thickness of lining upon the growth and yield of rice. Some of the major findings are summarized in the following. 1) The different thicknesses show a significant relationship with the weight of 1,000 grains. In the case of 9cm lined plot, the grain weight is 23.5grams, the heaviest. Next in order is 3cm lined plot, 6cm lined plot, control plot, and wheat straw lined-plot. 2) In rice yield, it is found that there is a considerably moderate significant relationship with both the different thickness of lining and the number of irrigation, as shown in the table. 3) There is little or no difference among different plots in terms of a) physical and chemical properties of soil, b) quality of irrigation water, c) climatic conditions, and rainfalls. 4) It is found that there is a significant relationship between differences in the method of rotation irrigation and the number of ears per hill. The plot irrigated at an interval of 7 days shows 17.4 ears and plot irrigated at an interval of 6 days, 16.3 5) In vinyl-treated plots, it is shown that both yield and component elements are greatest in the case of the plot ith whole of $3cm/m^2$ Next in order are the plot with a hole of $2cm/m^2$ the plot with a hole of $1cm/m^2$ In the case of the plot with no hole it is found that both yield and component elements are decreased as compared to the control plot. 6) The irrigation water reqirement is measured for the actual irrigation days of 72 which are the number subtracted the days of rainfall of 30 from the total irrigation days of 102. It is found that the irrigation water requirement for the uncontrol plot is 1,590mm as compared to 876mm(44.9% saved) for the 9cm-lined plot, 959mm(39.7% saved) for the 6cm-lined plot 1,010mm(36% saved) for the 3cm-lined plot and 1,082mm(32% saved) for the wheat straw lined plot. In the case of the Rotation irrigation method it is found that the water requirement for the plot irrigated at an interval of 8 days is 538mm(65% saved), as compared to 617mm(61.6% saved) for plot irrigated at an interval of 7 day 672mm(57.7% saved) for plot irrigated at an interval of 6day, 746mm(53.0% saved) for the plot irrigated at an interval of 5 days, 890mm 44.0% saved) for the plot irrigated at an interval of 4 days, and 975mm(38.6% saved) for the plot irrigated at an interval of 3 days. 7) The rate of evapotranspiration is found 2.8 around the end of month of July, as compared to 2.6 at the begining of August 3.4 around the end of August and 2.6 at the begining of August 3.4 around the end of August and 2.6 at the begining of September. 8) It is found that the saturation quantity of 30mm per day is decreased to 20mm per day though the use of vinyl covering. 9) The husking rate shows 75 per cent which is considered better.

  • This study represents basic research into the utilization of mixed ash (fly ash and bottom ash) from the ash pond of the Taean Thermal Power Plant as a construction material. We conducted physical and mechanical experiments on the mixed ash and examined its engineering characteristics in terms of its use as a material for road landfill and structure backfill. We evaluated the physical and chemical characteristics of the ash by performing tests to determine specific gravity, maximum and minimum density, liquid limit and plastic limit, grain size distribution, composition (by X-ray diffraction), and loss on ignition. We also evaluated the mechanical characteristics by testing for permeability, compaction, CBR, and tri-axial compression. The experiments on the mixed ash yielded a specific gravity of 2.18-2.20, dry density of $9.38-13.32\;kN/m^3$, modified CBR of 16.5%-21%, permeability coefficient of 1.32 to $1.89-10^{-4}cm/sec$, and drained friction angle of $36.43^{\circ}-41.39^{\circ}$. The physical and mechanical properties of the mixed ash do not meet the quality standards stipulated for road landfill and structure backfill materials. Mixed ash with a high content of fly ash failed to meet some of the quality standards. Therefore, in order to utilize the mixed ash as a material for road landfill and structure backfill, it is necessary to improve its properties by mixing with bottom ash.
