  • One of important factors in designing array-type MEMS resonators is obtaining a desired frequency response function (FRF) within a specific range. In this paper Krylov subspace-based model order reduction using moment-matching with non-zero expansion points is represented to calculate the FRF of array-type resonators. By matching moments at a frequency around a specific range of the array-type resonators, required FRFs can be efficiently calculated with significantly reduced systems regardless of their operating frequencies. In addition, because of the characteristics of moment-matching method, a minimal order of reduced system with a specified accuracy can be determined through an error indicator using successive reduced models, which is very useful to automate the order reduction process and FRF calculation for structural optimization iterations.

  • This paper presents a comparison of antenna factor characteristics computed by the Method of Moments(MoM) and the electromotive force(EMF) method for a calculable dipole antenna with a hybrid balun. An expression for the antenna factor is formulated using the concept of power mismatch loss. The input impedance and effective length of the antenna, which are in the formula of the antenna factor, are calculated using the two methods. The results show that the antenna factors are agreed within 0.24 dB, although the maximum difference between the input impedances obtained from the two methods is about 17 ${\Omega}$.

  • For non-linear solution of the Boltzmann equation, the cumulant moment method has been studied. To apply the method to the normal shock wave problem, we restricted ourselves to the monatomic Maxwell molecular gases. The method is based on the iterative approach developed by Maxwell-Ikenberry-Truesdell (MIT). The original MIT approach employs the equilibrium distribution function for the initial values in beginning the iteration. In the present work, we use the Mott-Smith bimodal distribution function to calculate the initial values and follow the MIT iteration procedure. Calculations have been carried out up to the second iteration for the profiles of density, temperature, stress, heat flux, and shock thickness of strong shocks, including the weak shock thickness of Mach range less than 1.4. The first iteration gives a simple analytic expression for the shock profile, and the weak shock thickness limiting law which is in exact accord with the Navier-Stokes theory. The second iteration shows that the calculated strong shock profiles are consistent with the Monte Carlo values quantitatively.

  • Currently most practical vibration and structural problems in automotive suspensions require the use of the finite element method to obtain their structural responses. When the finite element model has a very large number of degrees of freedom the harmonic and dynamic analyses are computationally too expensive to repeat within a feasible design process time. To alleviate the computational difficulty, this paper presents a moment-matching based model order reduction (MOR) which reduces the number of degrees of freedom of the original finite element model and speeds up the necessary simulations with the reduced-size models. The moment-matching model reduction via the Arnoldi process is performed directly to ANSYS finite element models by software mor4ansys. Among automotive suspension components, a knuckle is taken as an example to demonstrate the advantages of this approach for vibration simulation. The frequency and transient dynamic responses by the MOR are compared with those by the mode superposition method.

  • Elastic-plastic methods have been used for the better prediction of the actual behavior of continuous-composite plate girder bridges in the overload and maximum load analysis. The structural evaluation using ALFD(Alternate Load Factor Design) uses the elastic-plastic analysis. The plastic rotations that remain after the load is removed can be occurred by the yielding locations of the maximum moment section. This situation can occur due to the residual stresses even if the moment is below the theoretical yield moment. The local yielding causes positive automoments that assure elastic behavior under subsequent overloads. In this study, the automoments at the piers occurred due to the unit plastic rotations and other locations were calculated by the conjugate-beam method and three-moment equation, using the nine design span with progressively smaller pier sections. The automoments were determined by the developed computer programs in this study in which the moments and plastic rotations from the continuity and moment-inelastic rotation relationships must be equal. And also the ratings of 3-span continuous composite plate girder bridges with non-compact section were carried out according to the Korean Highway Bridge Specification.

  • In this paper. the electric field intensity has been theoretically evaluated by the method of moments in a cavity by a external source. The numerical results show a good agreement with the results of other papers. It is found that the electromagnetic penetration through aperture in the cavity shows peak values at some frequencies dependent largely on the structure of the cavity and aperture.

  • The electromagnetic wave scattering problems from inhomogeneous material bodies are considered. The formulation is made in terms of mixed potentials for the moment methods (MoM). The surfaces of a three-dimensional inhomogeneous scatterer of arbitrary shape are divide into triangular patches for descretization. Application of the boundary conditions leads to the coupled surface integral equations to be satisfied for the unknown surface equivalent electric and magnetic currents. The radar cross-section (RCS) for some structures is computed and the results are compared with the reported data.
