  • Five concrete compressive stress-strain models have been analyzed to check the validity of the strength method for determining the nominal moment of strengthened members using commercially available computer language. The results show that the concrete stress-strain models do not influence on the flexural analysis. The moment of a strengthened member obtained from the flexural analysis at concrete compressive strain reaching 0.003 is well agreed with nominal moment using the strength method. The flexural analysis results show that when the steel reinforcement, FRP ratio, FRP failure strain, and concrete failure compressive strain are relatively lower, the strength method overestimates the flexural capacity of the strengthened members.

  • In this paper, the analysis of arbitrarily shaped microstrip antennas is described. The analysis method is based on the transmission - line matrix representation for the interior problem and the moment method for the problem along the peripheries of the patch. Using this method, the input impedance and other antenna parameters are calculated and compared with experimental results for a circular and an equilateral triangular microstrip antenna. For all of the results, theoretical and expreimental results are in good agreement and the validity of the method is confirmed. This analysis can also be used to analyze microstrip antennas with shorting pins.

  • The concrete structural design provisions in Korea are based on ultimate strength design. Up to service load stage, it is assumed a linear stress-strain relation, but there is no stress-strain relationship for a concrete material from service load stage to limat state. According to the current provisions, an independent method is provided for the each calculation of deflection and crack width. In EC2 provisions based on limit state design, however, a stress-strain relationship of concrete is provided. Thereby, it is able to calculate a strength as well as a deflection directly from concrete stress-strain relationship. In this paper the moment-curvature relationship is directly calculated from a material law using equilibrium and compatibility conditions. Then strength and deflection are formulated. These results are compared with the values from the current provisions in Korea. From the results, the deflection based on a moment-curvature relationship is well agreed with experimental results and it is appeared that the deflection after the yielding of steel is also possible.

  • The object of this study is to propose the Flexural moment-curvature relationship based on the bond property between concrete and steel for noncracking zone, to evaluate the flexural displacement of reinforced concrete member. The bond-slip relationship and the strain hardening effect of steel were taken into consideration in order to evaluate the spacing of the cracks and the curvature distribution. Calculated curvature distribution along the longitudinal axis was transformed into equivalent curvature distribution. The flexural displacement was calculated by means of double integrals of the equivalent curvature. Furthermore, 34 beams were tested in order to verify the proposed procedure Calculated values agreed well with the experimental data, and so it is pointed out that proposed method is widely acceptable for the practical evaluation of flexural displacement of reinforced concrete member.

  • In this paper a computer program for displacement control method was developed, in which a certain displacement of the structure is increased and the applied loads and another displacements are obtained. To simplify the nonlinear structural analysis, the relationships of moment-curvature were linearized as elasto-softening model for over-reinforced concrete beam and as elasto-plastic-softening model for under-reinforced concrete beam. Since the result of the analysis of reinforced concrete beam depended on the element size beyond elastic zone, the relationship of moment-curvature was modified for each element by using the concept of fracture energy approach. Overall, analytical results accurately predicted the load-displacement behavior of reinforced concrete beams.

  • Though there have been advances in the numerical analysis of the acoustic scattering by smooth objects, numerical analysis of the acoustic scattering by the objects that are partially exposed on the interface are still rare. In determining the backscattering amplitude by a partially buried cylinder on a seabed, reverberation by the interface changes the feature of the scattering form function. Current study adopted the Method of moments (MoM) to provide the numerical analysis on the backscattering amplitude for a partially buried cylinder on a flat interface. Suggested numerical analysis showed the good agreements with the measurements and the analytic solution obtained by the Kirchhoff approximation. Numerical analysis described in the current study can be applied to the backscattering problem of any shape of the objects partially imbedded on a seabed by combining the reverberation from the seabed with the scattered wave from the objects.

The Effect of ${\pi}$ Bonds on the Calculated Dipole Moments for Tetrahedral and Square Planar [M(Ⅱ)$O_2S_2$] Type Complexes [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II)] (사면체 및 사각형 [M(II)$O_2S_2$]형태 착물의 쌍극자 모멘트에 대한 ${\pi}$결합의 영향 [M(II) = Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) 및 Zn])

  • The effect of ${\pi}$ bonds on the calculated dipole moments for square planar and tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes has been investigated by two different approaches. One is the approximate molecular orbital method based on the assumption that the mixing coefficient CM of the valence basis sets for the central metal ion and the appropriate ligand orbitals is equal for all ${\sigma}$ and ${\pi}$ bonding molecular orbitals. The other is the more refined calculation based on the semiempirical LCAO-MO method. If ${\sigma}$ bonds only are assumed to be formed, the calculated dipole moments for square planar and tetrahedral complexes are lower than those of the experimental values. If the contribution of ${\pi}$ bonds to the calculated dipole moments are fully considered, the calculated dipole moments for both square planar and tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes are higher than the experimental values. However if ${\pi}$ bonds are assumed to be delocalzed, the calculated dipole moments for tetrahedral [M(II$O_2S_2$]] type complexes fall in the range of the experimental values, but those for square planar complexes deviate from the experimental values. These results suggest that [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes may have the tetrahedral structure in inert solvent solution. This structure is in agreement with the experimental one. The calculated dipole moments for tetrahedral [M(II)$O_2S_2$]] type complexes indicate that the contribution of ${\pi}$ bonds to the calculated dipole moments may not be neglected.

  • In this paper a frequency response analysis using Krylov subspace-based model reduction and its design sensitivity analysis with respect to design variables are presented. Since the frequency response and its design sensitivity information are necessary for a gradient-based optimization, problems of high computational cost and resource may occur in the case that frequency response of a large sized finite element model is involved in the optimization iterations. In the suggested method model order reduction of finite element models are used to calculate both frequency response and frequency response sensitivity, therefore one can maximize the speed of numerical computation for the frequency response and its design sensitivity. As numerical examples, a semi-monocoque shell and an array-type $4{\times}4$ MEMS resonator are adopted to show the accuracy and efficiency of the suggested approach in calculating the FRF and its design sensitivity. The frequency response sensitivity through the model reduction shows a great time reduction in numerical computation and a good agreement with that from the initial full finite element model.

  • A simplified analysis method is first proposed in order to determine an optimized initial shape of cable-stayed bridges including all unstrained element lengths without using complicated nonlinear FE analysis. The unstrained-length based FE method is then presented using the unstrained lengths by the simplified analysis. To demonstrate validity and accuracy of the proposed method, Incheon bridge model having the fabrication camber is constructed and initial shaping analysis is performed using the presented method and commercial finite element analysis program, MIDAS. Resultantly it is shown that the initial solutions by the proposed algorithm are well optimized and in good agreement with those by MIDAS except for axial displacements of the main member.
