  • A positioning based service uses one's position information with GPS. This application also use the position based characters and change the smart phone to the vibration mode at the registered position. If the user register some places to be vibrated in the smart phone, the smart phone will be automatically changed to the vibration mode as the registered position is same with the position of GPS in the smart phone. If the smart phone is being leaving some distance from the position, the phone will be released from the vibration mode. Therefore, this paper propose aims for intelligent smart phone.

  • In this paper, we propose a new adaptive intra coding technique using 1-D and 2-D integer transforms for improving coding efficiency of H.264/AVC. Proposed technique selects the most effective transform and prediction mode for each block after processing 1-D and 2-D transforms of all prediction modes. In case of using 1-D transform, $4{\times}4$ block is divided into four $1{\times}4$ or $4{\times}1$ subblocks and then each subblock is predicted and subtracted by using the decoded subblock located at the nearest position in the direction of prediction. After prediction error subblock is processed by 1-D transform and quantization, four subblocks are merged back into original $4{\times}4$ block and then, reordered as 1-D signal by a DC biased zigzag scanning pattern according to the prediction mode. Finally, comparing the coding efficiency between bitstreams based on 1-D transform and conventional 2-D transform, prediction mode and quantized coefficients for each block are decided and corresponding quantized coefficients are transmitted. Experimental results show that the proposed adaptive technique increases 0.34dB in BD-PSNR and decreases 4.03% in BD-Bitrate on the average compared with H.264/AVC.

  • In this paper, in order to improve efficiency performance of power amplifiers, a mode changeable autotransformer is proposed. Efficiency performance at the low-power mode can be improved by adopting the mode changeable autotransformer. A dual-mode autotransfomrer CMOS power amplifier using a standard 0.18-${\mu}m$ CMOS process is designed in this work. Number of turns in a primary winding is re-configurated according to mode change between the high-power mode and the low-power mode. Thus, the efficiency performance of the power amplifier at each mode is optimized. EM and total circuit simulation results verify that low-power mode power added efficiency(PAE) at 24dBm output power is improved from 10.4% to 26.1% using the proposed multi-mode operation.

  • In practical applications of guided wave techniques, it is very important but also difficult to identify the propagating modes, and it is preferred to generate and detect a single or less dispersive mode. Also the noncontact method is required in the automated field application. So this paper considers a non-contact guided wave technique with enhanced mode-selectivity, where a laser beam illuminated through arrayed line slits is used as the transmitter and the air-coupled transducer is used as the receiver. The line arrayed laser illumination is a wavelength matching technique that ran generate only a few modes. The air-coupled transducer detects the leaky wave of the propagated guided wave, and by tuning its detection angle we ran detect the selected single mode. Experimental results for a 1mm thick aluminum plate proved the usefulness of the proposed method, and especially it was shown that this method was powerful in the generation and detection of the $a_0$ mode.

  • This paper presents a high efficiency, PSM/DCM/CCM triple mode boost DC-DC converter for mobile application. This device operates at Pulse-Skipping Mode(PSM) when it enters light load, and otherwise operate the operating frequency of 1.4MHz with Pulse-Width Modulation(PWM) mode. Especially in order to improve the efficiency during the Discontinuous-Conduction Mode(DCM) operation period, the reverse current prevention circuit and oscillations caused by the inductor and the parasitic capacitor to prevent the Ringing killer circuit is added. The input voltage of the boost converter ranges from 2.5V ~ 4.2V and it generates the output of 4.8V. The measurement results show that the boost converter provides a peak efficiency of 92% on CCM and 87% on DCM. And an efficiency-improving PWM operation raises the efficiency drop because of transition from PWM to PFM. The converter has been fabricated with a 0.18um Dongbu BCDMOS technology.

  • HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) extension considers screen content as one of its main candidate sources for encoding. Among the tools already included in HEVC version 1, the technique of using transform skip mode allows transform to be skipped and to perform quantization process only. It is known to improve video coding efficiency for screen contents which are characterized to have much high frequency energy. But encoding complexity increases since its encoder should decide whether transform should be used or not in each $4{\times}4$ transform block. Based on statistical correlation between IBC (Intra block copy) and transform skip modes both of which are known effective in screen contents, this paper proposes a combined method of the fast transform skip mode decision and a modified transform skip signaling which signals transform_skip_flag at CU level as a representative transform skip signal. By simulation, the proposed method is shown to reduce encoding time of $4{\times}4$ transform blocks by about 32%.

  • In this paper, hem antenna composed of rectangular hern, circular polarizer and straight-type mode convertor is designed and fabricated. The circular polarizer is designed as a dielectric type having broadband characteristic, and it is inserted into the rectangular hem with $45^{\circ}$ inclination. The straight-type mode convertor has a terrace-type structure in order to convert the TEM mode signal of coaxial cable to the TE mode of rectangular waveguide, and this structure minimizes conversion loss. Fabricated hem antenna operates at $30.085\sim30.885GHz$ and has VSWR < 1.5, Axial ratio < 1.0dB and antenna gain of $6.7\sim7.0dBi$ in the band.

  • Dragomiretskiy and Zosso (2014) developed a new decomposition method, termed variational mode decomposition (VMD), which is efficient for handling the tone detection and separation of signals. However, VMD may be inefficient in the presence of missing data since it is based on a fast Fourier transform (FFT) algorithm. To overcome this problem, we propose a new approach based on a novel combination of VMD and hierarchical (or h)-likelihood method. The h-likelihood provides an effective imputation methodology for missing data when VMD decomposes the signal into several meaningful modes. A simulation study and real data analysis demonstrates that the proposed method can produce substantially effective results.
