Adaptive Service Mode Conversion to Minimize Buffer Space Requirement in VOD Server (주문형 비디오 서버의 버퍼 최소화를 위한 가변적 서비스 모드 변환)

  • Excessive memory buffer requirement in continuous media playback is a serious impediment of wide spread usage of on-line multimedia service. Skewed access frequency of available video files provides an opportunity of re-using the date blocks which has been loaded by one session for later usage. We present novel algorithm which minimizes the buffer requirement in multiple sessions of multimedia playbacks. In continuous media playback originated from the disk, a certain amount of memory buffer is required to synchronize asynchronous disk. Read operation and synchronous playback operation. As aggregate playback bandwodth increases, larger amount of buffer needs to be allocated for this synchronization purpose. The focus of this work is to study the asymptotic behavior of the synchronization buffer requirement and to develop an algorithm coping with this excessive buffer requirement under bandwidth congestioon. We argue that in a large scale continuous media server, it may not be necessary to read the blocks for each session directly from the disk. The beauty of our work lies in the fact that it dynamically adapts to disk utilization of the server and finds the optimal way of servicinh the individual sessions while minimizing the overall buffer space requirement. Optimality of the proposed algorithm is shown by proof. The effectiveness and performance of the proposed scheme is examined via simulation.

Selective Inter-layer Residual Prediction Coding and Fast Mode Decision for Spatial Enhancement Layers in Scalable Video Coding (스케일러블 비디오 부호화에서 선택적 계층간 차분 신호 부호화 및 공간적 향상 계층에서의 모드 결정)

  • In order to reduce the complexity of SVC encoding, we introduce a fast mode decision method in the enhancement layers of spatial scalability by selectively performing the inter-layer residual prediction of SVC. The Inter-layer residual prediction coding in Scalable Video Coding has a large advantage of enhancing the coding efficiency since it utilizes the correlation between two residuals from a lower spatial layer and its next higher spatial layer. However, this entails the dramatical increase in the complexity of SVC encoders. The proposed method is to analyze the characteristics of integer transform coefficients for the subtracted signal for two residuals from lower and upper spatial layers. Then it selectively performs the inter-layer residual prediction coding and rate-distortion optimizations in the upper spatial enhancement layer if the SAD values of residuals exceed adaptive threshold values. Therefore, by classifying the residuals according to the properties of integer-transform coefficients only with SAD of residuals between two layers, the SVC encoder can perform the inter-layer residual coding selectively, thus significantly reducing the total required encoding time. The proposed method results in reduction of the total encoding time with 51.5% in average while maintaining the RD performance with negligible amounts of quality degradation.

2-Channel DC-DC Converter for OLED Display with RF Noise Immunity (RF 노이즈 내성을 가진 OLED 디스플레이용 2-채널 DC-DC 변환기)

  • This paper proposes a 2-ch DC-DC converter for OLED display with immunity against RF noise inserted from communication device. For RF signal immunity, an input voltage variation reduction circuit that attenuates as much as the input voltage variation is embedded. The boost converter for positive voltage VPOS operates in SPWM-PWM dual mode and has a dead time controller to increase power efficiency. The inverting charge pump for negative voltage VNEG is a 2-phase scheme and operates in PFM using VCO to reduce output ripple voltage. Simulation results using 0.18 ㎛ BCDMOS process show that the overshoot and undershoot of the output voltage decrease from 10 mV to 2 mV and 5 mV, respectively. The 2-ch DC-DC converter has power efficiency of 39%~93%, and the power efficiency of the boost converter is up to 3% higher than the conventional method without dead time controller.

High Efficiency Resonant Flyback Converter using a Single-Chip Microcontroller (싱글칩 마이크로컨트롤러를 이용한 고효율 공진형 플라이백 전력변환기)

  • This paper presents a high efficiency resonant flyback converter using a single-chip microcontroller. The proposed converter primary performs the resonant switching by applying the asymmetrical pulse-width modulation (APWM) to the half-bridge power topology. And the converter secondary uses the diode flyback rectifier as its power topology and operates with the zero current switching (ZCS). Thus the proposed converter achieves high efficiency. The total structure of proposed converter is very simple because it uses a single-chip microcontroller and bootstrap circuit for its control and drive, respectively. First, this paper describes the converter operation according to each operation mode and shows its steady-state analysis. And the software control algorithm and drive circuits operating the proposed converter are explained. Then, the operation characteristics of proposed converter are shown through the experimental results of an implemented prototype based on each explanation.

  • The sensor configuration of the magnetostrictive guided wave system can be described as a single continuous transducing element which makes it difficult to separate the individual modes from the reflected signal. In this work we develop the mode decomposition technique employing chirplet transform, which is able to separate the individual modes from dispersive and multimodal waveform measured with the magnetostrictive sensor, and to estimate the time-frequency centers and individual energies of the reflection, which would be used to locate and characterize defects. The reflection coefficients are calculated using the modal energies of the separated mode. Results from experimental results on a carbon steel pipe are presented, which show that the accurate and quantitative defect characterization could become enabled using the proposed technique.

  • 본 논문에서는 단상 이중변환 UPS의 AC-DC 변환부를 위한 단일 스위치 배전압 방식의 단상 PFC 회로의 동작특성에 대해 기술한다. 이 PFC 회로는 적은 개수의 전력용 반도체를 쓰기 때문에 비용 절감에 도움이 된다. 동작 모드에 따른 회로 각부의 전압, 전류 파형과 출력 전압 제어, 입력 역률 보상, 입력 전류 제어의 THD 억제 성능을 시뮬레이션과 실험을 통해 보였다.

  • This paper presents a high performance DC-DC boost converter by current-mode control method. As load current change, the converter change PWM/PFM operation automatically. current-mode DC-DC boost converter is implemented in a standard $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process. The peak efficiency was 94 % with a switching frequency of 1.2MHz.

  • This paper proposes a single-mode Lamb-wave generation and detection system using a pulsed laser as a generator and an air-coupled transducer combined with the wavelet transform analysis, as the detector. The laser source with arrayed linear slits was used to generate Lamb-wave which is able to control the wavelength of Lamb-wave to be generated by changing the slits separation. An ari-coupled transducer was used to receive Lamb-wave, which can selectably receive a single mode of leaky Lamb wave by changing the oblique angle of transducer, since the leaky Lamb-wave has unique leaky-angle according to the mode. Also, the received signal was processed by wavelet transform for the analysis in domain of time-frequency. The theoretical dipersion curve and the experimetal result was compared to show good agreement.

진공청소기 모터의 가속시험법 개발

  • 진공청소기 제품의 시장불량을 조사한 결과 모터의 불량이 전체 불량 중 많은 부분을 차지하고 있으며 조금씩 증가추세를 보이고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 그러므로, 본 연구에서는 진공청소기 모터의 출하 전, 불량품 검출력을 향상시킬 수 있는 가속시험법을 개발하고자 하였다. 또한, 가속시험을 통해 사업부의 신뢰성시험 납기 단축 및 시험비용 절감 뿐아니라 모터에 대한 가속시험 기술력 확보를 목적으로 수행하였다. 가속수명시험 시 스트레스인자는 모터의 브러쉬 마모 가속을 위해 정격보다 높은 전압을 인가하였다. 가속모형으로는 전압스트레스를 인가하는 경우 일반적으로 사용되는 역자승(Inverse Power) 모형을 사용하였다. 가속시험 결과 정격의 120% 전압에서 가속계수 4.3이 얻어졌다. 이는 수출 모델의 경우 현재의 시험시간 42일을 10 일로 단축하여 76%의 시험시간이 절감되어 시험 가능 횟수가 4배로 증가되는 결과를 얻었다. 추가적으로 다양한 On/Off 시간 변환 시험을 실시하였으나 현시험법과의 고장 모드 (브러쉬 마모로 인한 회전정지) 및 고장유형이 일치하지 않음을 알 수 있었다. 이 결과는 On/Off 시간변환을 통한 가혹시험의 경우 주의를 필요로 함을 나타낸다.

In-plane Vibration Characteristics of Piezoelectric Ring Transducers (링형 압전 변환기의 면내 진동 특성)

  • This paper experimentally deals with the vibration characteristics of flat ring transducers used for ultrasonic sensors and actuators. Radial vibration mode, which is the fundamental mode of a thin piezoelectric transducer, was measured by a laser in-plane vibrometer. An impedance analyzer was used to measure natural frequencies. The results measured by experiments verified theoretical predictions. The vibration characteristics of ring transducers were identified according to the outer diameter size. The shape of the fundamental mode is almost uniform but slightly decreases from the inner to the outer circumferential surfaces. The natural frequency of the fundamental mode decreases as the outer diameter increases. It appears that the ring type transducer is suitable to excite uniformly distributed vibration on a flat surface.
