  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate dimensionality and psychometric properties of identified theoretical constructs of the 'Life Satisfaction Scale for Elderly(LSSE)', which was developed by Choi, Sung-Jae in 1986. Data was obtained from 'The survey of health and welfare status of the elderly aged 65 or older in Chung-Choo city'. The subjects were 275 elderly. Results showed that LSSE had a multi-dimensional structure with three theoretical constructs. Each theoretical construct was named as 'positive affect and subjective satisfaction', 'negative self image and affect', and 'self-value'. Three theoretical constructs had high levels of reliability and validity based on internal construct. 'Positive affect and subjective satisfaction' and 'negative self image and affect' showed high levels of convergent and discriminant validity. 'Self-value' had a high level of convergent validity but acceptable level of discriminant validity. Results of this study revealed that there was a difference in theoretical dimensionality of LSSE between this study and Choi's study, which explained the dimensionality of LSSE as a single dimension. However, the result of this study regarding theoretical dimensionality supported findings from existing studies which insisted that life satisfaction had a multi-dimensional structure.

  • This study was intended to develop and investigate reliability and validity of a scale that can measure linkage capability of community resources of counselors. This study prepared a preliminary question consisting of a total of 42 questions in 5 areas. Then, the content validity and facial validity were verified by the counseling experts with a first-degree qualification as a counselor in Korean Counselling Psychological Association, and a total of 20 final questions of 4 areas. The final questions were conducted on psychological counselors(N=306) to investigate reliability and validity. As a result of conducting an exploratory factor analysis, validity of the two-factor structure have been verified. And In the confirmatory factor analysis, two factors were shown to be appropriate. The two-factors were named 'The collection and utilization of information' and 'Association with the Organization of Information'. Also, the scale of final selection of questions were found to have a good degree of concurrent validity, interitem consistency and test-retest reliability. The implications of the present study is significant in that it is a measure of community resources linkage capability scale of counselors. In addition, this scale is expected to be useful in Wee Class, Wee Center, Youth Counseling Welfare Center, and other counseling sites.

  • Materialistic values can be a important variable to understand Koreans' psychological well-being and mental health. This study aimed to validate the Korean version of the Material Values Scale (K-MVS)(Richins & Dawson, 1992). In study 1, we performed confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) to ascertain the three factor model of the original MVS using 417 Korean undergraduate student data(sample 1). The CFA confirmed the three-factor model of the MVS. Yet, three items that yielded low factor loadings in this study as well as in other MVS validation studies were excluded from the final model. In study 2, content, construct, and concurrent validity of the K-MVS were examined with 650 undergraduate student data(Sample 2). We also tested measurement invariance across two groups(i.e., college student group of Sample 2 and employee group of Sample 3). The result revealed that the three-factor model of the K-MVS hold true across the two groups. Lastly test-retest reliability was calculated with 408 female college student data(Sample 4) that filled out K-MVS twice within 6 months. These findings suggest that the K-MVS is a reliable and valid measure for assessing materialistic values in Korea.

  • This study verified the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Student Career Construct Inventory(K-SCCI) that was translated into Korean language from the Student Career Construct Inventory (SCCI) developed by Savickas et al.(2018). To achieve this, this study conducted item content analysis, exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion-related validity in 530 university students. As a result of item content analysis and exploratory factor analysis, it was found that 4 factor models and 18 items were the most appropriate in K-SCCI. The 4 factors were named as crystallizing a vocational self-concept, exploring to gather information about occupations, deciding to commit to an occupational choic, and preparing to implement that choice. As a result of confirmatory factor analysis to verify the goodness-of-fit of the 4 factor models, it appeared to be appropriate. As a result of analyzing the correlation with related measures to verify the criterion-related validity of measures, it was found that student career construct was negatively correlated with employment anxiety but positively correlated with career adaptability.

  • The purpose of this study was to validate Preschool Child Observation Record-II developed by High/Scope for Korean preschool children. The subjects of the study were 255 children aged three to six attending child care centers and their head teachers. They were observed for at least two months and completed the Korean version of Child Observation Record-II(K-COR-II). K-COR-II consisted of six categories and 32 items which had five-level-rubrics. The results from an exploratory factor analysis identified one dimension of the scale, there was no evidence of discriminant validity even after face validity was examined. The concurrent validity and internal consistency of the revised scale were relatively high. Also, the mean between the upper and lower groups with regard to item discrimination showed significant difference. It was concluded that K-COR-II can be used as a valid and reliable instrument to various aspects of preschool children's development.

  • The purpose of this study were to factor analyze the 25-item Personal Resource Question-naire (PRQ)-Part II, a social support measure, and to establish construct validity for the instrument among adolescents by relationship found between perceived social support and the theoretically relevant variables of attachment, parent-child relationships, and coping, The sample was consisted of 451 college students, aged 18 to 24. According to the criteria used in this study a four-factor structure, which consisted of 15-items, resulting from a principal components analysis with an oblique rotation, best represented the multidimensionality of the PRQ-Part II of late adolescents in Korea. Evidence in support of construct validity for both the 15-item and 25-item PRQPart II was provided by statistically significant correlations found between the two scales and the theoretically relevant variable of attachment, parent-child relationships, and coping. With the findings of this study, the 15-item Korean version of the PRQ-Part II can be used in research and practice as a reliable and valid instrument measuring perceived social support for late adolescents in Korea.

  • Purpose: This methodological study was conducted to test the reliability and validity of an instrument that measures attitudes of advance directives (ADs) among nurses. Methods: 1) Sixteen items related to attitudes in the English version of the Knowledge, Attitudinal, and Experiential Survey on Advance Directives (KAESAD) were forward/backward translated into Korean. 2) The content was validated by an expert panel (three nursing professors and eight hospice nursing specialists). 3) The preliminary 12 items were selected as a tool to assess the Korean version of Nurses' Attitudes towards Advance Directives (NAAD-K). 4) The instrument was validated by a survey (n=216). 5) It was confirmed to use the 12 items for the final version of the instrument. Results: NAAD-K was shown to be valid in terms of factors, items and content. The three factors extracted from the factor analysis were named as follows: Caring for patients with an AD (factor 1), nurses' role in informing patients (factor 2) and patient right (factor 3). The three factors explained total variance 57.796%. Factor loadings of the 12 items ranged from 0.47 to 0.93. For the 12 items, Cronbach's alpha was 0.81, and Guttman split-half coefficient was 0.78. Conclusion: This instrument was identified to be applicable with satisfactory reliability and validity for further use in measuring nurses' attitudes towards ADs in hospice and palliative care.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate a take-out food safety perception instrument that could be used by foodservice establishments. A total of 324 responses was collected via online survey, and 299 responses (92.3%) were used for the statistical analysis. Data was randomly split into two groups. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) was performed on the first split-half sample (n=150) to identify a factor structure using standard principal component analysis. EFA revealed three dimensions, titled "Consumer food safety perception," "Take-out food handling," and "Elements impacting on purchase decisions." Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed on the remaining half sample (n=149) using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). CFA revealed acceptable absolute model fits for three dimensions and excellent comparative model fits for the instrument. These findings propose standardized measures that can be useful in assessing the take-out food safety perception.
