  • This study aimed to develop an operating manual on the voluntary activity to the library services with disabled people in the public libraries. Various domestic and overseas manuals on the voluntary activity to the library services with disabled people were analyzed. From the survey and expert interviews, five types of most frequently asked library services with disabled people, face-to-face reading, word input services, services to off-library users, mobility aids services and assistance of engineering devices were extraced. Five specific areas on the voluntary activity were chosen in terms of activity area, barrier type, specific activity field, activity purpose and checklist. Finally, contents of the operating manual was applied to the area of face-to-face reading.

  • In this study, we explored the characteristics of instrumental genesis in high school students' scientific inquiries. Twenty-three 10th to 11th graders in a science research club participated in this study. The students in 6 groups autonomously planned and performed their own scientific inquiries for one semester. Their activities were videotaped and recorded. Semi-structured interviews were conducted. Material request papers and group worksheets were also collected for analysis. The results of the study suggested that students' practices were categorized as instrument genesis. When instrument genesis did not occur, the cases at the beginning of and during the practice were described respectively. Instrumental genesis was found to appear in three categories: instrumentation; instrumentation and instrumentalization; and instrumentalization. The characteristics and details of case represented in each category were described and discussed related to affordance as the results of the study. On the bases of the results, the implications for the reconsideration of the instruments in school science inquiries are discussed.

  • The Air and Correspondence High School (ACHS) has played a key role as an organization of lifelong learning since 1974. However, extra-curriculum in ACHS has not been operated successfully due to lacks of educational supports and on-line contents. So we surveyed demands of the ACHS teachers and students for successful operation of extra-curriculum, found four subjects that students preferred in the developing activity area which is one of extra-curricular activities, and experimentally developed four on-line contents for extra-curriculum. And we also applied the developed on-line contents to the students of Chongju H.S. After the application, another survey and interview were carried out to measure learner's satisfaction, find out problems of learning with on-line contents and suggest the ways of improving extra-curriculum learning system.

  • The purpose of this study is to reveal the insights that teachers has learned through developing preschooler's classroom into field-trip-oriented ones with role play areas. The data of this study was collected from participatory observation and in-depth interviews, which included videos, photos, teachers' journal, descriptive questionnaire, and interview records. The whole process of organizing role-play oriented class was composed of four steps: activities before the trip, activities on-the-spot, activities after the trip, and its evaluation. Firstly, activities before the trip were making the lists of questions, deciding children who ask the questions, making rules on the trip, understanding the purpose of the trip. Secondly, on-the-spot activities included having a tour of the place and asking the questions. Thirdly, activities after the trip was constructing the classroom into small real world with various sections. This required the teachers to reflect the field trips, make plans how to construct, prepare for the data, and furnish the classroom with role-play areas. In the process of furnishing the classroom with small real world, the field trips played a big role as the learning opportunities for language development, and keeping public rules.

  • Many researchers have reported that 7th graders have severe difficulties in using letters and algebraic expressions. This study investigated the way Microsoft Excel contributes to student's understanding of letters and algebraic expressions. For six hours through two weeks, four 7th grade students experienced various activities with Excel after school and both before and after the experimentation, the interviews to check their understanding was conducted. The results were as follows; First, after the experimentation, students used various letters to express formulas and recognized that letters represent not only some objects but also changing objects. Also they accepted that same objects could be represented by different letters and different objects could be represented by the same letters. Second, Excel improved students' abilities to discriminate variables and invariables in the problem and to find mathematical relationships among variables. And with Excel students could divide the whole calculation procedure into several steps in order to handle it more easily. Also, Excel made immediate numerical feedback possible and it made students express the calculation in a more formalized way than a paper and pencil environment did.

The positive learning experiences found in the process of their inquiry into children's science ideas were as follows: (1) exploring children's ideas have brought the opportunity for enhancing pre-service teachers' science content knowledge. (2) the pre-service teachers developed their ability in creating questions that probe into children's understanding. (3) the pre-service teachers recognized that children have various incomplete and unstable science ideas. (4) the pre-service teachers could suggest teaching strategy based on their findings.
