System Developement of Iron Plate Defects Detection System using Image Processing and Multi Thread Method (영상처리 기법과 멀티 스레드를 이용한 철판결함 검출 시스템 개발)

  • The purpose of this research is to propose a system to detect a strip defect on a iron plate using an image processing, one way of finding defects on an iron plate. An existing way of image processing is using a light source which release a light energy in a certain frequency and a light absorbing display which responds to the light source. This research attempts to detect defects by using a image processing and multi-Tread which handles an illumination, without depending on characteristics of light frequency. One of the advantages of this method is that it makes up for the weakness of the existing method which was too difficult for users to notice a defect. Also this method makes it possible to realize a real-time monitoring on a plate of iron. The other advantage of this method is that it reduces the price of hardwares on demand to match the frequency of light emitting display and light absorbing display because this method only needs a hardware which is easy to buy in any market.

  • 이종 멀티코어 프로세서는 각기 상이한 마이크로아키텍처, 캐시 사이즈, 클록 주파수를 갖는 다수의 코어 또는 프로세싱 유닛으로 이루어진 마이크로프로세서이다. 저에너지 소비가 산업계의 키워드로 부상하고 있는 이 시기에 이종 멀티코어는 동종 멀티코어보다 더 낮은 전력을 소비하고 성능면에서도 더 나은 프로세서로 주목받고 있다. 하지만, 동종 멀티코어에서의 동작을 가정하는 현재의 운영체제의 작업 스케줄러로는 이종 멀티코어의 이종적인 특성을 잘 활용할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 이종 멀티코어 프로세서 작업 스케줄링에 관한 연구를 다면적으로 분석하여 각 방법의 장점과 단점을 개략적으로 정리하고 관련된 이슈들을 살펴보고자 한다.

QoS-Aware Power Management of Mobile Games with High-Load Threads (CPU 부하가 큰 쓰레드를 가진 모바일 게임에서 QoS를 고려한 전력관리 기법)

  • Mobile game apps, which are popular in various mobile devices, tend to be power-hungry and rapidly drain the device's battery. Since a long battery lifetime is a key design requirement of mobile devices, reducing the power consumption of mobile game apps has become an important research topic. In this paper, we investigate the power consumption characteristics of popular mobile games with multiple threads, focusing on the inter-thread. From our power measurement study of popular mobile game apps, we observed that some of these apps have abnormally high-load threads that barely affect the user's gaming experience, despite the high energy consumption. In order to reduce the wasted power from these abnormal threads, we propose a novel technique that detects such abnormal threads during run time and reduces their power consumption without degrading user experience. Our experimental results on an Android smartphone show that the proposed technique can reduce the energy consumption of mobile game apps by up to 58% without any negative impact on the user's gaming experience.

Hardware Design and Implementation of a Parallel Processor for High-Performance Multimedia Processing (고성능 멀티미디어 처리용 병렬프로세서 하드웨어 설계 및 구현)

  • As the use of mobile multimedia devices is increasing in the recent year, the needs for high-performance multimedia processors are increasing. In this regard, we propose a SIMD (Single Instruction Multiple Data) based parallel processor that supports high-performance multimedia applications with low energy consumption. The proposed parallel processor consists of 16 processing elements (PEs) and operates on a 3-stage pipelining. Experimental results indicated that the proposed parallel processor outperforms conventional parallel processors in terms of performance. In addition, our proposed parallel processor outperforms commercial high-performance TI C6416 DSP in terms of performance (1.4-31.4x better) and energy efficiency (5.9-8.1x better) with same 130nm technology and 720 clock frequency. The proposed parallel processor was developed with verilog HDL and verified with a FPGA prototype system.

Optimal Design Space Exploration of Multi-core Architecture for Real-time Lane Detection Algorithm (실시간 차선인식 알고리즘을 위한 최적의 멀티코어 아키텍처 디자인 공간 탐색)

  • This paper proposes a four-stage algorithm for detecting lanes on a driving car. In the first stage, it extracts region of interests in an image. In the second stage, it employs a median filter to remove noise. In the third stage, a binary algorithm is used to classify two classes of backgrond and foreground of an input image. Finally, an image erosion algorithm is utilized to obtain clear lanes by removing noises and edges remained after the binary process. However, the proposed lane detection algorithm requires high computational time. To address this issue, this paper presents a parallel implementation of a real-time line detection algorithm on a multi-core architecture. In addition, we implement and simulate 8 different processing element (PE) architectures to select an optimal PE architecture for the target application. Experimental results indicate that 40×40 PE architecture show the best performance, energy efficiency and area efficiency.

  • 본 논문에서는 MPEG-21 통합 멀티미디어 프레임워크에서 이용되는 기본 단위인 디지털 아이템(Digital Item)의 처리 방안에 대해 설명하고, 디지털 아이템 소비 시스템에 대해 논하였다. 현재 MPEG을 중심으로 표준화중인 디지털 아이템 프로세싱(Digital Item Processing; DIP)을 이용한 디지털 아이템 처리는 디지털 아이템에 소비 및 이용에 대한 기능을 부여한다. DUP 에 기반을 둔 디지털 아이템 처리 및 소비 구조의 적용을 위해 교육용 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 표현하는 디지털 아이템을 구조화하고 디지털 아이템 소비기를 구현하여 구조화된 디지털 아이템 처리 및 소비 시스템의 유효성을 입증하였다.

  • 네트워크의 비약적인 발전과 이로 인한 많은 서버들의 유휴 비용에 관한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 네트워크상에서 사용자 인중을 위한 실시간 영상처리 시스템의 경우에는 사용자의 수에 비례하여 서버의 부담이 급격히 늘어나게 된다. 데이터 전송 속도에 있어서 많은 발전이 이루어지긴 하였지만 프로세싱의 중앙집중화는 서버의 많은 부담을 줄뿐만 아니라, 서버로의 네트워크 병목 현상을 초래하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 서버의 부담을 줄임과 동시에 병목현상을 해결하기 위해 RMI 기술을 기반으로 분산처리 기술을 온라인 인증 시스템에 적용한 분산 필터링 시스템을 제안한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 high-quality의 멀티미디어 통신을 위한 전력 소모 프로파일을 도출하였다. 전력 소모 블록을 크게 세가지로 나누어 RF Front-end, baseband와 멀티미디어 신호처리를 위한 디지털 프로세싱, LCD등의 사용자 인터페이스로 크게 나눌 수 있다. 각 기능 블록들이 소모한 전력을 분석하였으며, 모바일 단말 채널 환경에서의 OFDM의 성능을 분석하여 멀티미디어 처리를 위한 괌대역 멀티미디어 단말에서의 전력절감 효율을 분석하였다.

  • Recently, The Analog TV has been being replaced by digital TV. This dues to the advantage of digital TV that sends data as well as audio/video stream to the receiver. But there are no standards or rules for processing the data. So, most companies or developers process the data in separate methods. This absence of standards or rules for processing the data causes many confusions and waste of time, money, man power. This Thesis proposes the solution of the problem not based on standardized respect but methodological respect. This solution is using XML in producing and playing the broadcasted multimedia contents and data. We believe that this solution saves much man power, time, money and increase reusability of expensive broadcasting contents.

Measuring ultrasonic TOF using Zynq baremetal Multiprocessing (Zynq 기반 baremetal 멀티프로세싱에 의한 초음파 TOF 측정)

  • In this research the TOF (time of flight) of ultrasonic signal is measured using Xilinx's Zynq SoC (system on chip). The TOF is calculated from the difference between periods during which RF (radio frequency) and ultrasonic signals come across a distance, and then travelling distance is obtained by multiplying the TOF by the ultrasonic speed in the air. For this purpose, a ultrasonic pulse is generated from a Zynq's internal ADC, a FIR (finite impulse response) filter, and a Kalman filter. And a RF reference pulse is generated from a RF interface. Based on baremetal multiprocessing, the Kalman filter and the RF interface are c-programmed on Zynq's dual processor cores, with other components fabricated on Zynq's FPGA. With this HW/SW co-design, both lower resource utilization and much smaller designing period were obtained than the HW design. As a design tool, Vivado IDE(integrated design environment) is used to design the whole signal processing system in hierarchical block diagrams.
