The purpose of this study was to know the differences in perceptual judgement for speech intelligibility in monosyllables by inexperienced listeners and vowel space area according to different dysarthric severity. Three dysarthric speakers with different severity(mild, moderate and severe) screened by 3 clinicians' screening tests before the experiment were conducted. Corner vowels (i, u, ae, a) in monosyllable level (CVC, 'p_p') and carrier phrases ('종이에_써') were chosen and analyzed for vowel space. Inexperience listeners (n=20) performed the intelligibility test for spoken syllables and carrier phrases by dysarthric speakers. The results show that there is a significant differences in both F1 and F2 values among 4 corner vowels. Vowel space area in the data of mildly impaired speakers was significantly higher than two others. In the scores of speech intelligibility judged by inexperienced listeners, the scores by a moderately impaired speaker were more higher than two other speakers. The discrepancy between perceptual judgement by inexperienced listeners and vowel space area will be discussed in this area.
Equine motor neuron disease (EMND) is a spontaneous neurologic disorder of horses, which results from the degeneration of motor neurons in the spinal cord and brain stem. An 8-year-old Jeju pony gelding presented with weight loss, muscle tremors, frequent recumbence, low head carriage, sweating, and standing with four limbs close together. The gelding has been on the same stable and limited access to pasture for several years. The gelding has been fed with dried hays and commercial concentrated feeds. Laboratory test revealed very low serum vitamin E level (0.14 ${\mu}g/mL$; reference range > 1.5 ${\mu}g/mL$), mildly elevated creatine kinase (402 IU/L; reference range 119-287 IU/L) and aspartate aminotransferase (876 IU/L; reference range 226-336 IU/L). Oral glucose absorption test showed decreased glucose absorption. Histopathologic examination using a biopsy specimen from sacrocaudalis dorsalis medialis muscle revealed atrophic and hypertrophic muscle fiber, centralization of nucleus, degenerating and necrotic muscle fibers. Taken together, the gelding was diagnosed as EMND. After oral vitamin E administrated for 5 weeks, the gelding showed normally improved stance, decreased periods of recumbency, improved head carriage and weight gain except consistent tremors. This is the first report that successfully treated EMND case occurred in a Jeju pony in Korea.
The purposes of this study were to determine recent trends of domestic and international studies for primary progressive aphasia (PPA) patient group and to identify areas for future research. For these purposes, 171 studies on communication disorders of a PPA were chosen and sub-categories for research methods and contents were also analyzed. The sub-categories for research methods include types of research subject, research purpose and research field. As the research subject, 'agrammatism' was most frequently dealt with in both domestic and international studies; as the research purpose, 'characteristics study' accounted for the largest portion; and with respect to the research field, the international studies have covered evenly language, speech and others, while the domestic studies have handled only the field of 'language,' paying no attention to 'speech' and 'others.' In the international studies, apraxia of speech was added to the conventional three sub-types of PPA classification, so distinction between the four symptoms has been actively studied; however, patient cases were difficult to find in Korea, so the symptoms the patients had, although centering around communication disorders, have been rarely researched in the domestic studies. The results suggested that there have been extremely few studies related and their research field has lacked diversity. We suggested a direction for future research on communication disorders with PPA.
In this paper, the causal relationships in Onward are compared and contrasted with the ones in Up. The characters in Up purposefully move to action for the given cause. The residents there accept the surreal beings as normal. Thus, the viewers understand such surreal beings in the scene as part of the fantasy world of Up. The protagonists in Onward also have purpose for the actions they take. For achieving their goal, they choose problem solving method from the magical world. However, there is no causal relationship between reality and their world. Thus, it fails to persuade its viewers.
Complex regional pain syndrome is pain disorder which is characterized by aching pain, marked painful sensation, hypothermesthesia, vasomotor dysfunction, hyperhidrosis, impairment of motor function, trophic changes of distal part of not-operated extremity after trauma and operation. Pain produce increased sensitivity to catecholamine and diagnosed by infra red thermography and Treatment consists of pain relief and rehabilitational therapy for functional restoration of affected limb. We experienced a case of complex regional pain syndrome in a 16-year-old man after wedge resection of pulmonary apex for bullae and report this case with a review of the literature.

Deaf mutism (a hearing-impaired person and speech disorders) communicates using sign language. There are difficulties in communicating by voice. However, sign language can only be limited in communicating with people who know sign language because everyone doesn't use sign language when they communicate. In this paper, a finger language translation system is proposed and implemented as a means for the disabled and the non-disabled to communicate without difficulty. The proposed algorithm recognizes the finger language data by leap motion and self-learns the data using machine learning technology to increase recognition rate. We show performance improvement from the simulation results.
Antibodies to hepatitis C drew attention because of high morbidity to chronic hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV was known to be transmitted by transfusion, sexual behavior and parenteral drug use. However, some kind of autoimmune mechanism was suggested to be involved in the genesis of HCV-induced liver diseases. We hypothesized the prevalence of having anti-HCV might be higher in psychiatric patients rather than general population because of the characteristic route of transmission. Using Abbott HCV BA kit, anti-HCV was detected in the sera of 113 psychiatric inpatients from early December in 1992 to late May in 1994. The Positivity of anti-HCY was significantly(P<0.05) higher among psychiatric inpatients(10.6%) than in healthy controls(3.0%). There were no disease specificity among psychiatric inpatients who had anti-HCV, though alcoholics tended to have more anti-HCV. We couldn't find any significant correlation of anti-HCV with age, seasons of birth, lymphocytes (%) and liver function.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the characteristics of the media contained in textbooks for students with disabilities based on the information processing model, and to find ways to utilize library materials for class improvement for them. To this end, the media included in the in-depth learning activities of the Korean language textbooks of the 2015 revised special education basic curriculum were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was found that students with disabilities received information mainly through vision, process information through understanding, and use language intelligence to produce results. Specifically, they accepts learning contents through illustrations and texts, processes the contents based on understanding such as reasoning and explanation, and then uses linguistic intelligence such as writing and speaking to produce results. Based on the results of this analysis, a practical method to utilize library materials in the Korean language class of students with disabilities was proposed as follows. Developing a variety of input mediums based on reading stages and collection mapping for students with disabilities. Providing book materials through reading and listening. Teaching appropriate methodological knowledge to self-directly solve advanced learning activities. In addition, developing types of writing and writing strategies that can help various production activities.
Somatization disorder is a chronic condition characterized by multiple somatic complaints that are not due to any apparent organic illness. Somatization disorder is related historically to hysteria and hysteria has been defined by the existence of somatic complaints for which no organic reason can be found. Therefore most theories of somatization have focused on the psychodynamic and sociological perspectives. However, the concept that the somatic presentation of emotional distress or psychiatric illness might have a neurobiological basis has also aroused considerable interest. Relative to this perspective, the case of Anna O. which has been considered the prototype of hysteria, was reformulated from a neuropsychological perspective. Several neurophysiological and neuropsychological studies, studies concerning hemispheric differences in symptom presentation of the patients with hysteria have been shown the evidences for the biological basis of somatization. Moreover, recent neuroimaging studies in somatization disorder also show that brain dysfunction in somatization. The author reviewed several candidate theories which could help to explain the process of somatization in the perspective of biological basis and proposed the new neuropsychological model of somatization. The author also examined the possible application of this model to the treatment of somatization disorder and discussed it's limitation and the future directions in this field.
This study analyzed the level of digital informatization and the level of human relationship satisfaction in the disabled group. The digital informatization level of the disabled refers to the level of smart access, smart capability, and smart utilization. For the sampling of persons with disabilities, the survey was conducted for persons aged 7 to 69 who were registered under the Welfare for Persons with Disabilities Act. Regression analysis utilized SAS 9.3.s through vitalization of local communities, and information education for the disabled is also important. The analysis results are as follows. First, the higher the digital access level of the disabled, the higher the level of interpersonal satisfaction. Second, the higher the digital information capability level of the disabled, the higher the level of interpersonal satisfaction. Third, the higher the level of digital information utilization of the disabled, the higher the level of interpersonal satisfaction. As a result, the higher the digital information level of the disabled, the higher the satisfaction level in the interpersonal relationship of the disabled. In addition, it was found that careful attention and policy review are needed to resolve the digital information gap of the government for the disabled who are marginalized groups. Therefore, it is necessary to provide the expansion of universal services of the marginalized groups including the disabled. In addition, it is important to form a culture in which the community embraces the marginalized class through vitalization of local communities, and information education for the disabled is also important.
