Rubber is one of the most commonly used materials in various fields because of its unique viscoelastic properties. Friction occurs when a tire constantly makes contact with the ground. As a result, friction causes wear. The frictional energy caused by friction is a primary factor in the wear mechanism. The frictional energy is affected by various conditions (temperature, roughness of ground, shape of rubber, load, and materials). In this study, the analysis was preceded by considering the vertical load and the horizontal velocity to the rubber using ABAQUS/explicit. The contact pressure, and friction energy are derived using the shear force and slip distance. The actual behavior of the rubber test data were compared with the analysis results.

This study presents the nonlinear dynamic analysis method of the multi-span continuous bridge considering the friction of the expansion bearings. Also the numerical analysis is performed for estimating the effect of the friction on the seismic response of the multi-span continuous bridge under the longitudinal ground motion compatible to Korean bridge design response spectra. It is found that even small friction coefficient of the expansion bearings has significant effect on reducing the superstructure displacement due to energy dissipation and distributing the inertia force of the superstructure to the substructures due to frictional force. It is observed that such favorable friction effects increase as the friction coefficient increases and the magnitude of the ground motion decreases. Therefore, the friction of the expansion bearings can be effectively used for the safe and economic design of the continuous span bridge with many spans and large superstructure weight under the small to medium scale longitudinal ground motions.

Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC) is distinguished from the normal concrete by outstanding compressive and tensile strength. Cracked normal concrete resists shear by aggregate interlocking while clamped by transverse reinforcement, which is called as shear friction theory. Cracked UHPFRC is expected to have a different shear transfer mechanism due to rather smooth crack face and post-cracking behavior under tensile force. Twenty-four push-off specimens with transverse reinforcement are tested for four different fiber volume ratio and three different ratio of reinforcement along the shear plane. The shear friction strength for monolithic concrete are suggested by limit analysis of plasticity and verified by test results. Plastic analysis gives a conservative, but reasonable estimate. The suggested shear friction factor and effectiveness factor of UHPFRC can be applied for interface shear transfer design of high-strength concrete and fiber reinforced concrete with post-cracking tensile strength.
This paper presents the slip behavior of composite fabrics by high speed resin flow in high pressure resin transfer molding. In order to observe the fiber deformation behavior, we constructed the measuring equipment for friction coefficient between fiber and mold, and the monitoring system for deformation of fiber preform in high-pressure RTM process. Coulomb friction coefficient and hydrodynamic friction coefficient between fiber preform and mold were measured and the external force induced by fluid flow causing the deformation of fiber preform was measured. Friction force calculated by friction coefficient and the external force upon fiber deformation were compared, which showed that preform deformation occurred when the external force was bigger than the friction force. The slip behavior of the fiber preform was mainly influenced by the volume fraction of fiber preform and the friction coefficient.
The purpose of this study is to examine the characteristics of science gifted students' understanding of friction acting on a rolling object, and to examine the implications of teaching methods that can be derived from them. For this purpose, 48 students in grade 3 students who take advanced physics classes at the science high school for the gifted were asked to answer three questions about the friction problems. As a result, students' responses were divided into three types: rule, none-rule, and calculation. In addition, students of the rule type have difficulty in reasoning about the friction by using friction rules. We believe that students will be able to reach a deeper understanding of friction if we teach them to correctly infer the direction of friction without using friction rules, along with a strategy to emphasize relative motion in contact.
A frictional coefficients of in-vivo skin characteristic is the most important factor of the cutaneous mechanical properties ant the method of evaluating skin care in the fields of cosmetics products. In-vivo skin characteristic varies in many different ways depends on what is applied to the skin, loading condition, shape, surface roughness, and material of the probe. In this research, we designed a system which can be measured frictional coefficients of a human skin on real time. It consists of multi-components load-cell, actuator, linear motor and arm fixator. This measurement system was automatically controlled by computer. We measured frictional coefficients between probe an4 skin using this system ant inquired adjectives for subjective evaluation while rubbing cosmetic product on skin. Lastly, we analyzed correlation between two factors by calculating Pearson Correlation Coefficient. As a result, we could know that frictional coefficients varied from 0.17-1.2 according to cosmetic products, normal forte, materials and surface conditions of probe. We also confirmed sensual feelings of cosmetic products have close correlation with frictional coefficients.

It was made a friction material of various kinds by adding 10%, 20% and 30% of reduced iron. It was obtained by a connected-reduced process in a blast furnace sludge and oxidized iron, instead of $BaSO_4$, which is already a used inorganic filling material among a component of a brake friction material. This was done by a basic physical property test, a friction performance test to use a brake dynamometer. Moreover, in case of an add in the friction material, instead of using $BaSO_4$, the more expensive filling material, the reduced iron was also better because it has an excellent a friction property of an exothermic temperature, wear, etc. was 10%. At G1 and G3 specimens, a shear strength and a bonding strength of the friction material was decreased to be able to increase an amount of the blast furnace sludge and the reduced iron, but an application of all friction materials appeared enough strength.

In the four-step demand model, a gravity mode is used most commonly at the trip distribution stage. The purpose of this study was to develop a new friction factor that can express the accessibility property as a single friction factor to compensate for the variable limits of the gravity model parameters (travel time, travel cost). To derive a new friction factor, a new friction factor was derived using the space syntax that can quantify the characteristics of the urban space structure, deriving the link-unit integration degree and then using the travel time and travel distance relationship. Calibration of the derived friction factor resulted in a similar level to that of the existing friction factor. As a result of verifying the various indicators, the explanatory power was found to be excellent in the short - and long - distance range. Therefore, it is possible to derive and apply the new friction factor using the integration index, which can complement the accessibility beyond the limit of the existing shortest distance, and it is believed to be more advantageous in future utilization.

We have developed the multi-functioned friction measuring instrument for the previous research. In here, we improved the performance of friction measuring instrument by applying the adaptive smoothing method and analyzed the friction of plate and monitoring function of friction surface through scratch tests. We substituted lubricant steel plate to lubricant oil used for reducing the friction when fabricating steel plate because lubricant oil was regarded as one of the major causes for the environmental pollution. In particular, the functions of various plate such as galvannealed steel sheets were analyzed because friction coefficient could be changed depending on the type of organic/inorganic plate or state of coating layer. Therefore, we demonstrated that adaptive smoothing method could enhance the accuracy of measuring instrument which eliminate the noise. As a result of using the method, it showed the reduction rate 0.0417% for the friction coefficient 0.16.
