A Study on the Reestablishment of the Drone's Concept (드론 개념의 재정립에 관한 연구)

  • Drone was originally developed for air force aircraft or missile exercise shooting targets, and is being considered as the entire unmanned aircraft to the public. The core concept of a drone can be divided into 'unmanned' and 'aircraft'. However, there are many questions about whether the Fourth Industrial Revolution, expressed as a convergence scientific innovation, is appropriate at a time when smart cities are proposed as a concept of new urban spatial formation, and the role of self-driving vehicles, including drones, is being emphasized within the new urban integrated transport system. In this study, the concept of the existing drones was analyzed for the development process, definitions in each country's laws, and the results of the preceding research to present a concept suitable for future society and a unified term. It is not desirable to define a drone for the purpose of a country, an institution, or an operating entity, depending on the circumstances of the era. It is more reasonable to find the concept of a drone based on human life than in the traditional way, and more reasonable considering the development of the drones in the future. Subsequent studies should be more detailed, more data and research results analyzed, and discussed areas that were not covered in this study. Based on this, research should also be conducted on a variety of topics, including legislation, preparation of operational regulations, and related industrial processes and regulations.

  • 널리 알려진 바와 같이 드론산업은 4차 산업혁명을 견인하는 13대 혁신성장 동력 산업 중 하나이다. 드론은 조종사가 탑승하지 않는 무인/원격조종 비행장치로 영상촬영, 감시, 조사, 물품배송 등의 서비스에 활용되고 있다. 드론을 이용한 서비스가 안전하게 상용화되기 위해서는 필수적으로 드론 자체 및 드론 기반 서비스를 보호하는 드론 보안기술이 적용되어야 한다. 드론은 피해자임과 동시에 가해자가 될 수 있는 양면성을 지니고 있기 때문에 이러한 특성을 고려한 보안기술이 필요하다. 최근 드론 보안의 양면성을 고려한 핵심요소로 드론식별모듈(DIM)이 개발되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 드론식별모듈 개념을 정의하고, 주요 기능 소개 및 국제표준화 추진 현황을 설명한다.

The Study on analysis methodology of optimal performance and quantity for Mission-Based drones (임무 기반 드론의 최적성능 및 소요량 분석 방법론 연구)

  • This paper addresses the analysis method about optimal performance and required quantity for Mission-Based drones. In the case of drones, although scientific verification of operational performance and quantity of demanded, such as total flight time, total operation time, and appropriate required quantity, is required depending on the operation concept, there is no methodology for analyzing them systematically. That is the reason this research was carried out. Through the suggestion and study about Mission-Based six step analysis method and, this study can present the optimal ROC (Required Operational Capability) and the required quantity based on the operational concept of drones, and technical and economic effects were suggested.

  • Due to the development of technology and popularization of drone, the so-called "dirty drone" that exploits drones for crimes and terrorism has become a social problem, and it is time to seriously consider the "revenge of drones." Indeed, the cases of threats posed by drones are expanding not only to threats to ground facilities, but also to aviation safety threats, more recently to large-scale events, demonstrations and crimes targeting specific personnel, and terrorism. This research clearly defined the concept of anti-drone when it emerged as a new type of social safety threat as it was abused in crime and terrorism, while response to it was not enough yet. Through this process, it was intended to present an effective anti-drones system. We analyzed the major controversial elements of anti-drone, and defined them as "comprehensive response activities at the legal, institutional and technical levels performed by law enforcement agencies, related technology and industrial entities in a way that prevents, detects, and blocks acts that violate public well-being and order, such as crimes and terrorism caused by the drones." To effectively respond to dirty drones, the authority of law enforcement agencies and the enactment of relevant laws were proposed. In the future, a comprehensive and systematic follow-up study of the anti system should be conducted.

The Definition and Regulations of Drone in Korea (韓国におけるドロ?ンの定義と法規制)

  • Under the Aviation Safety Act of Korea, any person who intends to operate a drone is required to follow the operational conditions listed below, unless approved by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism; (i) Operation of drones in the daytime, (ii) Operation of drones within Visual Line of Sight, (iii) Maintenance of a certain operating distance between drones and persons or properties on the ground/ water surface, (iv) Do not operate drones over event sites where many people gather, (v) Do not transport hazardous materials such as explosives by drone, (vi) Do not drop any objects from drones. Requirements stated in "Airspace in which Flights are Prohibited" and "Operational Limitations" are not applied to flights for search and rescue operations by public organizations in case of accidents and disasters. This paper analyzes legal issues as to definition and regulations of drones in Korean Aviation Safety Act. This paper, also, offers some implications and suggestions for regulations of drones under Korean Aviation Safety Act by comparing the regulations of drones in Japanese Civil Aeronautics Act.

  • IMO(국제해사기구)에서는 자율운항선박의 도입을 위해 현행 국제협약의 적용을 검토 중이며, 많은 회원국들은 Remote Operator(원격운항자)의 명확한 개념 정립의 필요성을 공감하고 있다. 그러므로 국제사회 대응을 위한 우리나라 현황을 반영한 Remote Operator의 개념 정립이 필요하다. 본 연구는 Remote Operator 개념 정립을 위해 앞선 신기술 사례를 분석하고 Remote Operator 개념 정립에 필요한 요소를 식별하고자 한다. 이를 위해 자율주행자동차와 드론 산업의 현황을 분석하고 도입에 따른 우리나라 정책 변화를 살펴보고자 한다.

Simulation Study on Search Strategies for the Reconnaissance Drone (정찰 드론의 탐색 경로에 대한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • The use of drone-bots is demanded in times regarding the reduction of military force, the spread of the life-oriented thought, and the use of innovative technology in the defense through the fourth industrial revolution. Especially, the drone's surveillance and reconnaissance are expected to play a big role in the future battlefield. However, there are not many cases in which the concept of operation is studied scientifically. In this study, We propose search algorithms for reconnaissance drone through simulation analysis. In the simulation, the drone and target move linearly in continuous space, and the target is moving adopting the Random-walk concept to reflect the uncertainty of the battlefield. The research investigates the effectiveness of existing search methods such as Parallel and Spiral Search. We analyze the probabilistic analysis for detector radius and the speed on the detection probability. In particular, the new detection algorithms those can be used when an enemy moves toward a specific goal, PS (Probability Search) and HS (Hamiltonian Search), are introduced. The results of this study will have applicability on planning the path for the reconnaissance operations using drone-bots.

Security Threats and Scenarios using Drones on the Battlefield (전장에서 드론을 활용한 보안 위협과 시나리오)

  • Since 1910s, the drones were mainly used for military purposes for reconnaissance and attack targets, but they are now being used in various fields such as disaster prevention, exploration, broadcasting, and surveillance of risk areas. As drones are widely used from military to civilian field, hacking into the drones such as radio disturbance, GPS spoofing, hijacking, etc. targeting drones has begun to occur. Recently, the use of drones in hacking into wireless network has been reported. If the artificial intelligence technology is applied to the drones in the military, hacking into unmanned combat system using drones will occur. In addition, a drone with a hacking program may be able to relay a hacking program to the hacking drone located far away, just as a drone serves as a wireless communication station. And the drones will be equipped with a portable GPS jamming device, which will enable signal disturbance to unmanned combat systems. In this paper, we propose security threats and the anticipated hacking scenarios using the drones on the battlespace to know the seriousness of the security threats by hacking drones and prepare for future cyberspace.

Design of Hybrid Communication Structure for Video Transmission in Drone Systems (드론 영상 전송용 하이브리드 통신 구조의 설계)

  • In modern society drones are actively utilized in the fields of security, defense, agriculture, communication and so on. Smart technology and artificial intelligence software have been developed with convergence, and the field of use is expected to expand further. On the point of the excellent performance of drones one of the essential technologies is the wireless communication that make the ground facility receive the video streaming obtained by the drones in the air. In the research the concept of communication region is proposed to cover the both the low altitude region for Wi-Fi communication and the high altitude region for LTE communication for the sake of video transmission. Also the hybrid communication structure is designed along the proposed concept and the proposed system is implemented as a communication system in the small size which can be mounted in a small size of drone. It is confirmed that the proposed system contains the effectiveness by showing the ability to successfully transmit HD video streaming in the range of 500 meters and the transfer time between two different communication systems is measured in 200msec by the experiments.

  • 수문조사를 통한 유량자료는 물의 이수, 치수, 환경 등 홍수피해 방지, 수자원의 관리 및 계획을 위한 기초자료로 이용되고 있다. 하지만 예산, 인력, 안전 및 하천공사 등의 문제로 매년 모든 지점에서 유량 측정을 실시하지 못하는 어려움이 있다. 특히 홍수기의 태풍 등 큰 호우사상 발생 시 수위-유량관계 변화 검토가 필요하지만 홍수기 계획지점 이외 지점에서 측정은 위와 같은 문제로 어려움이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 이런 문제점을 개선하기 위해 최소 인력이 단시간 간편하게 드론을 활용하여 유량을 측정할 수 있는 방법을 도입하였다. 드론을 활용한 유량측정방법은 드론 사진측량 개념에서 접근하였으며 드론 사진측량의 정확도는 다양한 분야에서 많은 연구를 통해 입증된 바가 있다. 본 연구의 대상지점은 중랑천 상류에 위치한 의정부시(신곡교) 지점에서 보급형 회전익 드론 (DJI, 팬텀4 pro)을 활용하여 검증 목적을 위해 측정하였다. 유량측정은 드론으로 촬영된 항공사진 상에서 지상에 위치확인 가능한 지상기준점(GCP, Ground Control Point) 4개점을 선점하고 RTK-VRS 장비를 이용하여 측량을 수행하였다. 항공사진 촬영은 드론을 일정높이의 공중에 정지되어 있는 호버링(Hovering) 상태에서 카메라 타임랩스 기능으로 3초 간격 하도 내 수표면을 촬영하였다. 항공사진 수표면에 유하하는 부유물의 3초 간격 이동위치와 GCP 자료를 활용하여 X, Y 좌표 분석을 통해 3초간 이동거리를 표면유속으로 산정하고 통수단면적을 적용하여 유량을 산정하였다. 이와 같이 드론 사진측량으로 산정된 유량과 일반적인 유량측정 방법을 통해 개발된 수위-유량관계곡선식과의 비교를 통해 드론을 활용한 유량측정 방법의 적용성을 확인하였다. 다만, 드론이라는 기계적인 장비의 한계로 야간, 바람 및 강우 등 환경적인 요인에 의해 측정의 제한이 있을 것으로 판단된다.
