  • As the business competition between firms is getting intense, one of the sources of competitive advantage is effectively and efficiently to create, share, and apply information/knowledge among employees. Most of the firms which conduct knowledge management are operating a Community of Practice(CoP) in order to create, share and utilize this kind of information/knowledge resource. Recently, the CoP is getting out of its informal and spontaneous manner and is beginning to be led by the top management, receiving official support, in order to achieve the organization's strategic goals. However, the corporation's strategic operation of the CoP is not only against its original characteristics but also hampers the spontaneity of its participants. Every participant has different motivation to participate and different preference for reward type. This study, with the survey of 114 respondents, found that intrinsic motivation as well as extrinsic motivation significantly affect the motivation-reward fitness. Also, the motivation-reward fit was found to influence CoP commitment which ultimately leads to knowledge sharing activity in the CoP context. This research will help knowledge management companies to figure out how the two things of participants' motivation and their reward types can fit together, and how such fitness ultimately affects the participants' commitment and their knowledge sharing activities.

  • Educational robots have various potentialities to support programming learners because it is interesting enough to improve the learners' participation and motivation. Nonetheless, some researches assert that the use of educational robot does not necessarily lead to effective and successful learning. With respect to these serious problems, the researchers are emphasizing that it is needed to overcome the probable 'Novelty Effect' by means of considering specific features of the robot programming environment and the participants. We analyzed and found some features of robot programming teaching and learning environment and professional high school students through reviewing of the literatures, and then conducted delphi research to abstract motivational strategies and to develop their applying methods with the specific features. We developed a robot programming teaching and learning model for stimulating and maintaining professional high school student's motivation, which includes 5 factors and 21 strategies.

  • This study aims to examine English learning beliefs of Korean college students enrolled in e-learning courses and to investigate the relationship between their beliefs and L2 achievement. Horwitz's Beliefs about Language Learning Inventory was used to elicit students' beliefs about English learning and their grades in a final exam were employed for the English achievement measure. The data from one hundred sixteen respondents were analyzed through a factor analysis and the analysis revealed 5 factors: Motivation, learning strategies, English aptitude, foreign language aptitude, and communication strategies. The results showed that the most of the e-learning students had a high level of motivation and expectation in learning English but they believed that they had a low language aptitude. Statistically significant correlation was found between students' beliefs in motivation and their L2 attainment.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how self-esteem, shopping motivations, and shopping tendencies affect the clothing purchase behavior of the so-called "MZ generation," a cohort that includes both millenials and Generation Z and exerts significant influence in various areas. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, it was found that extrinsic purchase motivations (purchased made due to the influence of other people), trend-seeking shopping tendencies, and pleasure-seeking shopping tendencies had a positive and significant effect on personal needs among the sub-factors of clothing purchase behavior of the MZ generation. Second, it was found that the MZ real purchase shopping motivations, trend-seeking shopping tendencies, pleasure-seeking shopping tendencies, and convenience-seeking shopping tendencies had a positive and significant effect on actual needs among the sub-factors of clothing purchase behavior among the MZ generation. Third, it was found that social self-esteem, extrinsic purchase motivations, and convenience-seeking shopping tendencies had a positive and significant effect on clothing marketing strategies among the sub-factors of clothing purchase behavior of the MZ generation. On the other hand, personal self-esteem was found to negatively affect the marketing strategies of clothing purchase behavior. In other words, the expectation that the MZ generation would buy clothes in accordance with their individual preferences and beliefs was not supported by the findings of this study. It would appear that the beliefs and behaviors of the digitally savvy MZ generation are changed by the fashion trend-related information they readily access when purchasing clothing. From the above research results, it can be concluded that there many variables that influence the clothing purchase behavior of the MZ generation and it is thus necessary to consider this cohort a new consumer segment and establish marketing strategies accordingly.

  • Many efforts have been made to prevent alcohol related harms such as health problems and socio-economic problems. Among them, the method of improving drinking behavior at the individual level is the most direct intervention. The effectiveness of the use of protective behavior strategies(PBS) has been widely known in Western countries. The purpose of this study is to empirically verify whether the use of PBS affects alcohol related harms in Korean adults. The survey has been conducted on 2,000 adult men and women. As a result, it is found that the use of PBS reduced alcohol related harms in adults. Among the PBS, the biggest impact on alcohol related harms is the area related serious harm reduction strategy, followed by restrictions on 'manner of drinking'. The effects of 'limiting/ stopping of drinking' is not significant. In addition, drinking frequency, binge drinking, and drinking motivations have significant positive effects on alcohol-related harms, and only social motivation has a negative effect. In this work, we propose follow-up studies on identifying relationships between protective behaviors and alcohol related factors through longitudinal studies and strengthening the use of protective behavior strategies that applied to the refined target populations.

  • In this study, the effects of visual organization and cooperative learning in problem-solving strategy were investigated. Three classes (N=127) at a high school were assigned to SV (Strategy-Visual organization) group, SVC (Strategy-Visual organization-Cooperative learning) group, and control group. After instructions, students' multiple-choice problem-solving ability, strategy performing ability, anxiety about chemistry learning, perception of involvement, and motivation to learning science were examined. Although multiple-choice problem-solving ability was not different significantly, there was a significant main effect in strategy performing ability. The scores of the SV and SVC groups were significantly higher than those of the control group, especially in the subcategories of problem understanding and recalling related principles. In the tests of perception of involvement and motivation to learning science, the scores of the SV and SVC groups were also significantly higher than those of the control group. However, problem-solving strategy using visual organization could not alleviate anxiety about chemistry learning.

  • This study investigated relationship between preservice kindergarten teachers' cognitive strategies and self-determination motivation types. Cognitive strategies were measured by 3 variables surface, deep, and metacognitive strategies; motivation for self-determination was measured by 7 variables; intrinsic motivation(IM) to know, IM to accomplish, IM to experience stimulation, external regulation, introjected regulation, identified regulation, and amotivation. The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire(Pintirch & DeGroot, 1990) and the Academic Motivation Scale(Vallerand et al., 1992, 1993) were administered to 82 subjects. Data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation, multiple regression analysis, and canonical correlation analysis. Finding were a positive correlation between IM to know and IM to accomplish. IM to accomplish positively predicted surface, deep, and metacognitive strategies, and identified regulation positively predicted deep cognitive strategy. Amotivation negatively predicted deep and metacognitive strategies.
