  • This study investigated the development of geometrical thinking levels of the under achievers at mathematics through supplementary classes according to van Hiele's learning process by stages using mathematical journal writing. We selected five under achievers at mathematics among the fourth graders. We examined their geometrical thinking levels in advance and interviewed them to collect basic data related to their family backgrounds and their attitude toward mathematics and their characteristics. Supplementary classes for the under achievers were conducted a couple of times a week during 12 weeks. Each class was conducted through five learning stages of van Hiele and journal writing was applied to the last consolidating stage. After 12th class had been finished, posttest on geometrical thinking levels was conducted and the journals written by the pupils were analyzed to find out changes in their geometrical thinking levels. The result is that three out of five under achievers showed one or two level-up in their geometrical thinking levels, though the other two pupils remained at the same level as the results by the pretest. Moreover we found that mathematical journal writing could provide the pupils with opportunities to restructure the content which they study through their class.

  • Digital watermarking is a technique embedding hidden information into multimedia data imperceptibly such as images and sounds. Generally an original image is transformed and coded watermark data is embedded in frequency domain watermarking models. In this paper, We propose a new data embedding method using Fresnel transform. A watermark image is fresnel-transformed and the intensity of transformed pattern is embedded into original image. Our watermarking model has the flexibility In data embedding. It is possible to get many embedding patterns from a single watermark image by using various distance parameters with Fresnel transform. All kinds of image models such af shape, letter and photo ran be used as a watermark data. The watermarking experiments were conducted to show the validity of the proposed method, and the results show that our method has the robustness against lossy compression, filtering and geometric transformation.

  • This study aims to investigate that scientifically gifted students have distinctive science related attitudes in comparison with general students. In addition, this study examines the relationship among science related attitudes, intelligence, and science process skills. Two hundred sixty-six middle school students (169 boys, 97 girls) who enrolled at the Incheon Science Elite Program and 220(133 boys, 87 girls) students in a regular middle school participated in the present study. Research findings support that gifted students have more positive science related attitudes than general students as well as higher intelligence and science process skills. At last, low and non-significant correlation coefficients with attitudes and cognitive factors were found in gifted groups, whereas some significant correlations were found in general students.

  • Linear stability analysis for combustion instability within a cylindrical port of solid rocket motor has been conducted. The analysis of acoustic energy has been performed by a commercial COMSOL code to obtain the mode function associated to each acoustic mode prior to the calculation of stability alpha. An instability diagnosis based on the linear stability analysis of Culick is performed where special interests have been focused on 5 stability factors(alpha) such as pressure coupling, nozzle damping, particle damping and additionally, flow turning effect and viscous damping to take into account the flow and viscosity effect near the fuel surface. The instability decay characteristics depending on the particle size is also analyzed.

  • A table as an effective arrangement tool of a set of data has not been focused on as a single research subject despite of the fact that the table has been clearly one of learning and teaching elements of national math curriculum for a long time. I hope this article gets to be a starting point for future studies of tables. For this, the Finland elementary mathematics textbooks which use tables so often for many various purpose are chosen and analysed. As a result, it confirms that tables can be practical tools for developing different mathematical ideas in mathematics textbooks. Its applicable area is not limited on statistics but numbers and operations, geometry, measurement, ratio and rate. In addition, some ideas of the outlook, the size and dimension of tables, and the context of datum and etc are induced from the Finland elementary mathematics textbooks.

  • Volume rendering is a powerful tool for visualizing sampled scalar values from 3D data without modeling geometric primitives to the data. The volume rendering can describe the surface-detail of a complex object. Owing to this characteristic. volume rendering has been used to visualize medical data. The size of volume data is usually too big to handle in real time. Recently, various volume rendering algorithms have been proposed in order to reduce the rendering time. However, most of the proposed algorithms are not proper for fast rendering of large non-coded volume data. In this paper, we propose a block-based fast volume rendering algorithm using a shear-warp factorization for non-coded volume data. The algorithm performs volume rendering by using the organ segmentation data as well as block-based 3D volume data, and increases the rendering speed for large non-coded volume data. The proposed algorithm is evaluated by rendering 3D X-ray CT body images and MR head images.

  • The mobile robot which accomplishes a work in explored region does not know location information of surroundings. Traditionally, simultaneous localization and mapping(SLAM) algorithms solve the localization and mapping problem in explored regions. Among the several SLAM algorithms, the EKF (Extended Kalman Filter) based SLAM is the scheme most widely used. The EKF is the optimal sensor fusion method which has been used for a long time. The odometeric error caused by an encoder can be compensated by an EKF, which fuses different types of sensor data with weights proportional to the uncertainty of each sensor. In many cases the EKF based SLAM requires artificially installed features, which causes difficulty in actual implementation. Moreover, the computational complexity involved in an EKF increases as the number of features increases. And SLAM is a weak point of long operation time. Therefore, this paper presents a symmetrical model based SLAM algorithm(called M-SLAM).

  • It is so sensitive that the wetland ecosystem very weak in artificial interference and environment change. wetlands are a transitional zone between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. This natural property is important to people and life. It is necessary to preservation and protection of the wetland with a countermeasure. we really need to Environment-GIS (E-GIS) and digital map which is included correct position, attribute data and range of the wetland. In this study, we take priority of making a database of wetland management. Moreover, we standardize a digital map production of wetland in our research and we improve accuracy of control survey using GPS surveying. The main purpose of this study is to suggest a pre-estimated wetland that have not yet been discovered. by analysing terrain, geological feature, a geographical distribution of plants and animals using GIS.

  • In the applications like automatic masks generation for semiconductor production, a drawing consists of lots of polygons that are partitioned into trapezoids. The addition/deletion of a polygon to/from the drawing is performed through geometric operations such as insertion, deletion, and search of trapezoids. Depending on partitioning algorithm being used, a polygon can be partitioned differently in terms of shape, size, and so on. So, It's necessary to invent some comparison algorithm of sets of trapezoids in which each set represents interested parts of a drawing. This comparison algorithm, for example, may be used to verify a software program handling geometric objects consisted of trapezoids. In this paper, given k sets of trapezoids in which each set forms the regions of interest of each drawing, we present how to compare the k sets to see if all k sets represent the same geometric scene. When each input set has the same number n of trapezoids, the algorithm proposed has O(2$^{k-2}$ $n^2$(log n+k)) time complexity. It is also shown that the algorithm suggested has the same time complexity O( $n^2$ log n) as the sweeping-based algorithm when the number k(<< n) of input sets is small. Furthermore, the proposed algorithm can be kn times faster than the sweeping-based algorithm when all the trapezoids in the k input sets are almost the same.

  • In this study, connections between the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children and the contents of teacher's manual books according to it and the contents of elementary 1st grade mathematics curriculum and textbooks was analyzed to find the implications that can help to link the two curricula in the development of kindergarten and elementary school mathematics curriculum. The five following implications could be obtained from the analysis. First, it is necessary to connect the contents of the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children which were completed in that curriculum like 'spatial relation'in geometric figure domain and 'data collection'in probability and statistics domain to the contents of the 1st grade curriculum. Second, in the case of the contents not connected between the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children and the contents of elementary 1st grade mathematics curriculum but connected between the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children and the contents of elementary 2nd ~6th grade mathematics curriculum, it is necessary to re-adjust the hierarchy based on one of the curricula. Third, it is necessary to check whether $\ll$K-teacher's manual book$\gg$ obey the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children or not. Fourth, it is necessary to review the related elements of the NURI curriculum for 5 years old children and elementary 2nd ~6th grade mathematics curriculum in [activity] in $\ll$K-teacher's manual book$\gg$. Fifth, it is necessary to handle the mathematics contents explicitly and systematically in [activity] in $\ll$K-teacher's manual book$\gg$.
