Curing behavior and interfacial properties were evaluated using electrical resistance measurement and tensile/compressive fragmentation test. Electrical resistivity difference (${\Delta}R$) during curing process was not observed in a bare carbon fiber. On the other hand, ${\Delta}R$ appeared due to the matrix contraction in single-carbon fiber/epoxy composite. Logarithmic electrical resistivity of the untreated single-carbon fiber composite increased suddenly to the infinity when the fiber fracture occurred under tensile loading, whereas that of the ED composite reached relatively broadly up to the infinity. Comparing to the untreated case, interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of the ED treated composite increased significantly in both tensile fragmentation and compressive Broutman test. Microfailure modes of the untreated and the ED treated fiber composite showed the debonding and the cone shapes in tensile test, respectively. For compressive test, fractures of diagonal slippage were observed in both untreated and the ED treated composite. Sharp-end shape fractures exhibited in the untreated composite, whereas relatively dull fractures showed in the ED Heated composite. It is proved that ED treatments affected differently on the interfacial adhesion and microfailure mechanism under tensile/compressive tests.

In this paper we analyze the performance of an adaptive sector cell system, which is adopted to maintain the traffic balance between sectors and to utilize the cell resources effectively, using the data collected from real channel environments. In the data measurements, we transmitted the QPSK modulated signal with carrier frequency of 1.95GHz and received the signals using the 8x4 array antenna equipped on the top of buildings in the urban area. We analyzed the angular distribution and the delay spread of a user signal and analyzed angular distribution of mobile users in a cell using the collected data. Also, we propose the vector channel modeling using the estimated pdf(probability distribution function) of the analyzing results. Through the proposed channel modeling the improvement of the call blocking rate was analyzed when using the adaptive sector cell system, and computer simulations show that the call blocking rate of the adaptive sector cell system was much lower than that of the fixed sector cell system. Additionally, it shows that the call blocking rate increases severely in the fixed sector cell system while the difference of the call blocking rate was smaller in the adaptive sector cell system, as the user density of the spatial distribution increases.

The formidable barrier property of the stratum cornemum and the high hydrophilicity of active ingredient make it difficult to permeate through the skin and reach to its site of action. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of chemical penetration enhancers on the skin permeation of a hydrophilic cosmetic active ingredient, such as arbutin. The enhancing effects of N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) on the permeation of a hydrophilic cosmetic active ingredient were evaluated by using Franz diffusion cell. The study indicated that NMP has considerable influence on the skin permeability. NMP was not only the most effective enhancer but also increased the skin permeability of arbutin approximately 1.3~1.5 fold compared with control without penetration enhancer. The lag time did not change with NMP, which suggested no effect of NMP on skin lipid fluidity. This suggest that arbutin co-permeated with NMP. The results indicate NMP is effective enhancer of a hydrophilic cosmetic active ingredient in penetration, with potential applications for drug delivery system.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of capsulated slurry phase change material (PCM) on the thermal crack in mass concrete by experimental work and FEM analysis. In this study, three conditions of samples were prepared for evaluating the level of hydration heat, i.e., a material condition, a cement paste condition and a concrete condition. Also, a compressive strength test was conducted for FEM inverse analysis. Based on the results of the experiment, exothermic function coefficients of concrete with encapsulated slurry PCM were deducted by the inverse analysis. After that, they applied to FEM analysis of the mass scale concrete structures. From the results of this experiment, $31^{\circ}C$ capsulated slurry PCM had no super cooling phenomenon in the material condition. In the cement condition, hydration heat decreased by 34.61J when PCM of 1g was mixed. In the concrete condition, PCM of 6% was deducted as the best level in hydration heat absorption. In FEM inverse analysis, rate coefficient of reaction gradually decreased when PCM mixing ratio increased. But, temperature-rise coefficient increased when PCM mixing ratio exceeded 6%. For the inversed exothermic function coefficients applying to large scale concrete structures, a thermal cracking index increased by 0.05 when PCM of 1% was mixed.
The quality attributes of frozen dough mixed with milk proteins (casein: C and whey protein: W) and polysaccharides (sodium alginate: A and ${\kappa}-carrageenan:$ K), and with 1.6% (w/w) wheat flour, were investigated to improve the quality of dough. Addition of milk protein-polysaccharide mixtures increased water absorption, as assessed by farinography, compared with control material. Dough prepared with CA and WA mixtures showed longer development times and increased valorimeter values compared with control samples. However, addition of milk protein-polysaccharide mixtures decreased dough stability, elasticity, and strength. Gelatinization temperature and the temperature at maximum viscosity, as measured by amylography, increased on addition of milk protein-polysaccharide mixtures, but the maximum viscosity decreased compared with control samples. The control showed a lower dough volume than did dough prepared with CA and WA mixtures. These results indicate that addition of milk protein-polysaccharide mixtures, especially CA and WA, improved the quality of frozen dough, and could be useful to prevent bread becoming stale.
This study analyzed the effect of flood level reduction in the case of creating and operating offline storage for the Jangdong district, which can be used as a flood buffer space for the Geumgang River, through one-dimensional unsteady flow numerical simulation. In particular, the sensitivity analysis of changes in the height and width (length) of transverse weirs on flood level changes was performed to provide quantitative information necessary for flood control facility (embankment) design. As a result of analyzing the flood control effect of the offline storage based on the peak flood discharge and level, spatially, the flood control effect at the planned flood buffer space site and the downstream end was confirmed, and it was confirmed that the flood reduction effect at the downstream occurred the most. By design conditions of the transverse overflow weir, the greatest flood reduction effect was found under the condition that the overflow weir height based on the 50-year frequency flood level and the transverse overflow weir width (length) of 125 m were considered. The effect of delaying the time to reach the maximum flood due to the operation of the offline storage site was also presented based on unsteady flow modeling.
In this paper, a new audio reproduction system was developed in which the cross-talk signals would be reasonably cancelled at an arbitrary listener position. To adaptively remove the cross-talk signals according to the listener's position, a method of tracking the listener position was employed. This was achieved using the two microphones, where the listener direction was estimated using the time-delay between the two signals from the two microphones, respectively. Moreover, room reverberation effects were taken into consideration where linear prediction analysis was involved. To remove the cross-talk signals at the left-and right-ears, the paths between the sources and the ears were represented using the KEMAR head-related transfer functions (HRTFs) which were measured from the artificial dummy head. To evaluate the usefulness of the proposed listener tracking system, the performance of cross-talk cancellation was evaluated at the estimated listener positions. The performance was evaluated in terms of the channel separation ration (CSR), a -10 dB of CSR was experimentally achieved although the listener positions were more or less deviated. A real-time system was implemented using a floating-point digital signal processor (DSP). It was confirmed that the average errors of the listener direction was 5 degree and the subjects indicated that 80 % of the stimuli was perceived as the correct directions.
Background: Extubation is recommended to be performed at minimum pressure support (PSmin) during the pressure support ventilation (PSV). In field, physicians sometimes perform additional 1 hr T-piece trial to the patient at PSmin to reduce re-intubation risk. Although it provides confirmation of patient's breathing reserve, weaning could be delayed due to increased airway resistance by endotracheal tube. Methods: To investigate the effect of additional 1 hr T-piece trial on weaning outcome, a prospective study was done in consecutive 44 patients who had received mechanical ventilation more than 3 days. Respiratory mechanics, hemodymic, and gas exchange measurements were done and the level of PSmin was calculated using the equation (PSmin=peak inspiratory flow rate $\times$ total ventilatory system resistance) at the 15cm $H_2O$ of pressure support. At PSmin, the patients were randomized into intervention (additional 1 hr T-piece trial) and control (extubation at PSmin). The measurements were repeated at PSmm, during weaning process (in cases of intervention), and after extubation. The weaning success was defined as spontaneous breathing more than 48hr after extubation. In intervention group, failure to continue weaning process was also considered as weaning failure. Results: Thirty-six patients with 42 times weaning trial were satisfied to the protocol. Mean PSmin level was 7.6 (${\pm}1.9$)cm $H_2O$. There were no differences in total ventilation times (TVT), APACHE III score, nutritional indices, and respiratory mechanics at PSmin between 2 groups. The weaning success rate and re-intubation rate were not different between intervention group (55% and 18% in each) and control group (70% and 20% in each) at first weaning trial. Work of breathing, pressure time product, and tidal volume were aggravated during 1 hr T-piece trial compared to those of PSmin in intervention group ($10.4{\pm}1.25$ and $1.66{\pm}1.08$ J/L in work of breathing) ($191{\pm}232$ and $287{\pm}217$cm $H_2O$ s/m in pressure time product) ($0.33{\pm}0.09$ and $0.29{\pm}0.09$ L in tidal volume) (P<0.05 in each). As in whole, TVT, and tidal volume at PSmin were significantly different between the patients with weaning success ($246{\pm}195$ hr, $0.43{\pm}0.11$ L) and the those with weaning failure ($407{\pm}248$ hr, $0.35{\pm}0.10$L) (P<0.05 in each). Conclusion : There were no advantage to weaning outcome by addition of 1 hr T-piece trial compared to prompt extubation to the patient at PS min.
Enalapril maleate tablets of two different producers were tested for bioequivalence. Enalapril is rapidly metabolized to an active metabolite, enalaprilat which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). The pharmacokinetics of enalapril maleate and the time course of inhibition of plasma ACE activity after administration of the drugs were studied. Two single doses of 10mg each of enalapril maleate were administered orally to twelve male volunteers in a balanced, randomized, two-way crossover investigation. Plasma enalaprilat concentrations were determined over a 23-hour after the dose by enzyme inhibition assay and enalapril by the same method following in vitro hydrolysis. Urinary recoveries of enalapril and enalaprilat were determined for the calculation of renal clearance. Plasma ACE activity was determined by an enzyme assay. Peak plasma levels of enalapril were observed about 1 hour after the doses, and practically all enalapril had disappeared from plasma within 6 hour. Peak enalapril concentrations of both formulations were almost identical ($Vasotec^{\circledR}$, 61.38 ng/ml; $Beartec^{\circledR}$, 64.27 ng/ml). The values of the pharmacokinetic parameters of enalaprilat computed for $Vasotec^{\circledR}$ and $Beartec^{\circledR}$ tablets are presented in that order; area under the curve=330.63:320.96 $ng{\cdot}hr/ml$; peak concentration=38.63:39.43 ng/ml; time to peak=3.83:4.08 hour; elimination half-life=3.95:3.92 hours. No statistically significant difference was detected when area under the curve and all other parameters were compared. Using criteria of 95% confidence interval for the comparison of these parameters, only the upper limits of area under the curve and time to peak of enalapril were over 120%. All the parameters of enalaprilat were acceptable. Percent inhibition of plasma ACE to plasma enalaprilat concentration showed the sigmoid concentration-inhibition relationship. Time courses of plasma ACE inhibition after the administration of both formulations were quite similar. The formulations were found to be equivalent when compared on the premise that no significant difference was detected when pharmacokientic parameters and inhibition of ACE activity were compared, based on the confidence limits analysis.
