Analysis on the Principles for Teaching Algebra Revealed in Clairaut's (Clairaut의 <대수학 원론>에 나타난 대수 지도 원리에 대한 분석)

  • by A.C. Clairaut was written based on the historico-genetic principle such as his . In this paper, by analyzing his we can induce six principles that Clairaut adopted to teach algebra: necessity and curiosity as a motive of studying algebra, harmony of discovery and proof, complementarity of generalization and specialization, connection of knowledge to be learned with already known facts, semantic approaches to procedural knowledge of mathematics, reversible approach. These can be considered as strategies for teaching algebra accorded with beginner's mind. Some of them correspond with characteristics of , but the others are unique in the domain of algebra. And by comparing Clairaut's approaches with school algebra, we discuss about some mathematical subjects: setting equations in relation to problem situations, operations and signs of letters, rule of signs in multiplication, solving quadratic equations, and general relationship between roots and coefficients of equations.

A Study on the Logarithmic Counting Ratemeter (대수계수율계에 관한 연구)

  • This paper describes a new simplified logarithmic counting Tatemeter for the measurement of wide range counting rates without selector switch. Theoritical analysis of the proposed circuit and synthesis technique for designing a multi.decade instrument using this configuration are given. It has a linear response on the logarithmic scale for random pulses of Poisson's distribution as well as for periodic pulses. The experimental circuit designed by the proposed technique has a good logarithmic response over 5 decades covering the counting rates from 1 pps to $10^5$ pps. Also the causes of inaccuracy in the low and high range are examined and effestively removed.

  • CRESST(the National Center for Research on Evaluation, Standards, and Student Testing at UCLA) is now carrying out the research, which was scheduled for a five year period from 2007 to 2011. This research aimed at testing the effectiveness of the formative assessment program by continuously conducting the program on the target group and steadily applying the recurring feedback, in order to reform the teachers' teaching and to facilitate students' learning. To do this, CRESST has set out to develop the material for 7th graders since January 2007, and KICE(Korea Institute of Curriculum and Evaluation) have been running a collaborated research since July 2007, while sharing the instructional materials developed by CRESST. In 2008, the pre-test was conducted prior to this study in 2009. Especially, this paper deals with the Korean 8th graders' scholastic achievements in algebra domain measured by PowerSource(c). In addition, this study would examine the responses of teachers and students on its application.

The Study on Elementary Preservice Teachers' Content Knowledge in Arithmetic and Algebra Word Problems Solving Strategy (산술과 대수 영역의 문장제 문제해결 전략에 대한 초등 예비교사의 내용지식 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze that The arithmetic and algebraic word problem solving skill, strategy preference, and assessment ability of elementary preservice teachers is investigated using a statistical methodology. The research findings are as follows. First, elementary preservice teachers demonstrated logical and delicate problem solving behaviors in arithmetic and algebraic word problem solving. And elementary preservice teachers prefer to create a formula and table strategy in problem solving of the arithmetic question. Second, there was meaningful difference in the math and english elementary preservice teachers' appreciations with significant level of 0.05. And there was not meaningful difference in the 1 and 4 grade elementary preservice teachers' appreciations with significant level of ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results of the study suggest that teachers education course need to improve elementary preservice teachers' word problem solving skill, strategy preference, and assessment ability in the arithmetic and algebraic.

The analysis for mathematics education system, algebra curriculum and textbooks of Chinese Taipei and Korea by TIMSS 2007 results (대만과 우리나라의 수학 교육체계 및 대수 교육과정과 교과서 비교 -TIMSS 2007 결과를 중심으로-)

  • Chinese Taipei won the first place at the mathematics achievement of TIMSS 2007. Especially, there was a significant difference in the percentage of correct answers between Chinese Taipei and Korea, and Chinese Taipei' percentage of correct answers was higher than Korea. This study compared the education system, mathematics instruction environment, and instructional activities of two countries. And for algebra, curriculum and textbooks were compared between two countries based on TIMSS 2007 framework. It was found that Chinese Taipei emphasized homework and test, and MCFL of that was low. Their textbook was formal, and induced the hasty abstraction, Also, some themes were introduced earlier than Korea and repeated across different grades.

  • 80년대 후반부터 90년대 중반까지 NCTM을 비롯한 여러 수학교육 관련 기관 단체에서는 많은 규준(standards)들을 내 놓았다. 그 내용은 대체적으로 어떠한 수학을 어린이들이 학습해야할지, 교실 수업은 어떠한 모습으로 이루어져야하며, 어린이들이 수행하는 것과 수학프로그램들의 효율성을 판단하고 평가하기 위해 어떠한 지침이 사용될 수 있는지에 대한 권고 사항들로 이루어져 있다고 볼 수 있다. 본 고에서는 이러한 규준들의 내용 중 수 와 연산 영역에서 제시된 규준들을 토대로 우리의 7차 교육과정과 관련지어 알아보고 아울러 대수적인 관점에서 이 영역을 지도하는데 있어서 몇 가지 간과하기 쉬운 유의점(교사의 관점에서)들을 살펴보았다.

  • This paper is based on theory of Usiskin who defined inclusively the various concepts of algebra among many theories classifying a type of the algebra. For this purpose, we examined the curriculum of the algebra of Korea, America and Japan, then analyzed where the problems in "Letter and Formula" of the textbooks fall under Usiskin's concepts of algebra.

대수층을 통한 해수침투의 정량적 평가를 위한 전기비저항 탐사 적용

  • 변산반도 서부 해안지역의 소규모 유역에 대하여 대수층을 통한 해수침투의 범위를 공간적으로 규명하기 위하여, 시추자료를 포함한 전기비저항 탐사와 지하수의 수질분석을 실시하였다. 전기비저항 탐사는 다층 구조로 되어있는 대수층 내 지하수의 수질변화 특성을 효과적으로 탐지해 낼 수 있는 수직탐사법을 이용하였으며, 탐사결과 겉보기비저항 곡선은 H type에 해당함을 알았다. 시추에 의해 3층 구조로 밝혀진 연구지역에 대하여 총 30 지점에 대한 H type 수직탐사 자료의 1차원 역산결과, 중간층과 상/하부층의 비저항 크기 차이가 크게 나타남에 따라 이 연구에서는 고전도도 지역, 중간지역, 저전도도지역 등 3가지의 영역으로 구분하였다. 15개 지점의 천부 지하수 관정에서 채취된 지하수 시료 분석결과를 TDS에 대한 HCO3/Cl과 Ca/Na 몰비로 도시하였는데, 그래프의 기울기에 따라 크게 2가지 그룹으로 구분되었다. 수직탐사의 3가지 영역과 지하수 수질 분석에 의한 2가지 그룹을 비교한 결과 낮은 농도의 HCO3/Cl과 Ca/Na를 나타내는 관정은 고전도도 지역에 위치하며, 높은 농도의 HCO3/Cl과 Ca/Na를 나타내는 관정은 저전도도 지역에 위치하는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 이 연구에서 제시한 바와 같이 전기비저항 수직탐사 결과와 지하수 수질분석 결과를 복합 해석하는 경우 시추자료가 제한적인 해안지역 대수층을 통한 해수침투 범위를 효과적으로 규명할 수 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
