Analysis of Mistakes in Photosynthesis Unit in Biology II Textbooks and Survey of Biology Teachers' Recognition on them (생물 II 교과서 광합성 단원의 오류 분석 및 생물 교사의 오류 인지 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to know whether or not any wrongful description or simple errors were in photosynthesis unit of Biology II textbook under 7th national curriculum and if so, to know whether or not high school teachers recognized and corrected properly the mistakes. The mistakes in photosynthesis unit of text books were determined by the comparison with several reference books and through examination by three plant physiologists in 8 different Biology II textbooks. After the mistakes were analysed, the survey using contents of textbook containing the mistakes was conducted on high school teachers teaching Biology II. As a result, 48 mistakes were determined in 13 subjects. As many as four mistakes were found even in one subject in a certain textbook and a same mistake was found repeatedly in several textbooks. The survey result showed that the teachers who pointed exactly the mistakes out corrected properly, however, the percentage of these ones out of 35 teachers replied to survey was less than 50%. The ratios of correction out of total number of responses were high in question #6 (43%), #4-3 (40%), and #1-2 (32%) which were containing a simple mistake in graph, a wrong word and a wrong picture, respectively. But, no one pointed out and made correction in question #5-1 and #5-2 which were containing Z scheme of light reaction without the legend of vertical axis that should be explained as electron energy or standard reduction potential. The result indicates the possibility that the mistakes in photosynthesis unit of Biology II textbook can be corrected and teached properly by teachers may be low. In order to reduce the possibility that students may have misconceptions about photosynthesis, the list of print's errors should be provided to the teachers and/or the training program and/or workshop for in-service high school biology teachers was recommended.

  • 과학교육에서는 과학과 기술과 관련된 사회적 또는 환경 문제의 증가를 더 이상 간과할 수가 없게 되었고, 이로 인해 과학-기술-사회-환경(Science-Technology, Society-the Environment: STSE)교육을 통한 실천적 과학 소양의 중요성이 대두되고 있다. 본 연구는 환경 내용을 다룬 초등학교 6학년 2학기 과학 단원, 3. 쾌적한 환경을 학습하는 과정에서 환경 중심 STSE 교육의 어려움과 그 가능성에 대하여 고찰하고자 하였다. 초등학교 6학년 두 개의 반 아동 86명은 단원 학습에 참여하는 동안 설문, 그리기와 쓰기, 면담에 참여하였다. 수집된 자료는 아동들의 과학-기술-사회-환경의 관련성에 대한 인식과 과학 지식의 실천적 소양이라는 측면에서 분석되었다. 결과로는 첫째, 과학-기술-사회-환경의 관계에 대한 아동들의 인식은 현대 사회가 가지고 있는 가치관과 복잡하게 얽혀 있었으며, 이 안에서 과학/기술의 발전은 사회 발전과 환경 문제의 두 측면에서 다소 상반적인 관계를 보였다. 둘째, 환경 문제에 대한 아동의 인식은 높은 반면 실천적 소양의 측면은 상대적으로 낮았다. 셋째 과학-환경 지식은 환경 문제 인식과 문제 해결에 그다지 영향을 미치지 않았다. 이러한 결과들을 바탕으로 본 논문은 실천적 과학 소양을 위한 과학-기술-사회-환경 교육의 문제점과 어려움에 대해 논의한다.

The Development of a Tool and Its Application to High Schools for the Assessment in Trigonometry (삼각함수 단원의 수행평가 도구 개발 및 적용)

  • This article was to develop a tool and apply it to the high school classrooms for the performance assessment in trigonometry Bloom(1956)'s cognitive domain and holistic rubric and analytic rubric(NCTM, 1999) were used to guide the development of 12 problems. To find validity and credibility of this developed tool, Cronbach n and Rasch's BIGSTEPS were used with the samples of high students, 208, using SPSS 10.0K. The results from the investigation, indicated that the tool was very worth assessing students' achievement and there was no difference between the areas where students lived, but were differences between genders as well as between a specialized high school and preparatory high schools.

  • For a meaningful learning of the Construction Unit in 7-B Grade, this study aims to develop teaming materials on the basis of Clairaut's $El{\`{e}}ments$ de $G{\`{e}}om{\`{e}}trie$, which is grounded on a natural generation derived from the history of mathematics and emphasizes students' inquiry activity and reflective thinking activity, and to analyze the characteristics of learning process shown in classes which use the application of teaming materials. Six students were sampled by gender and performance and an interpretive case study was conducted. Construction was specified so as to be consciously executed with emphasis on an analysis to enable one to discover construction techniques for oneself from a standpoint of problem solving, a justification to reveal the validity of construction, and a step of reflection to generalize the results of construction.

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of individualized instruction on students' achievement, course interest, attitude in Homepage Development lesson. A total of 204 eighth-graders in a girls' middle school participated in the study. The results showed that the individualized group made significantly greater achievement and revealed higher course interest than the traditional group. Subjects in the individualized group also had more positive attitudes toward the instructional program than did the traditional group. Prior computer experience didn't have significant interaction effects between the teaching methods.

초등학교 5학년 학생들의 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식 상태의 분석

  • 새로운 것을 학습할 때 학생들은 자신이 어떤 지식 상태를 갖고 있는지에 따라 상당히 다른 이해의 정도를 나타낸다. 유의미한 이해를 이끌어 내기 위해서 교사들은 학생들의 사전 지식상태를 파악하고 그것에 근거하여 학습과제를 제시할 필요가 있으며, 어떤 단원을 학습한 후에 학생들의 지식상태를 파악해 보는 방법도 모색되어야 할 것이다. 본 연구는 충청북도 C도시 4개 초등학교 5학년 학생 285명에게 수학 5-가 6단원을 학습한 후 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식상태 검사를 실시하고 그 결과를 Doignon & Falmagne(1999)의 지식공간론을 활용하여 분석하였다. 학생들의 답안에서 평면도형의 넓이 측정과 관련된 지식의 상태를 파악하고 세 가지 범주-측정의 의미 파악, 공식 활용, 전략의 사용-에서 지식 상태의 위계도를 작성하였다. 첫 번째 범주인 측정의 의미 파악과 관련하여 학생들은 둘레나 넓이의 속성 파악에서 혼동을 보이거나 직관적으로 넓이를 비교해야 하는 과제에서도 계산을 시도하는 지식 상태가 반 이상인 것으로 드러났다. 두 번째 범주인 공식 활용과 관련해서는 학생들의 상당수가 부적합한 수치를 넣어 무조건 넓이 계산을 시도하고 있었다. 또한 세 번째 범주인 전략 사용에 관해서는 분할이나 등적변형 등의 전략을 알고 있는 학생 중에도 40% 가량은 문제를 표상하는데 어려움이 있어 해결하지 못하는 것으로 드러났다.

Development of a Measure for the Dance Giftedness (무용영재성 판별도구 개발)

  • Based on the qualitative analysis, 4 factors of dance giftedness were operationally defined and test items were initially developed accordingly. The preliminary test data obtained from 206 dancers was analyzed, using item analysis and a series of reliability analyses. In order to dancer the construct validity, four exploratory factor analyses were conducted for 54 items, resulting in 20 items of 4 factors; physique, dance attitude Expressiveness and creativity, movement ability. A confirmatory factor analysis conducted for 292 dancers to test the goodness-of-fit of 4 factor model revealed a satisfactory level of $x^2$, Q, root mean square residual(RMR), goodness of fit index(GFI), Tucker-Lewis index(TLI), comparative fit index(CFI), root mean square error of approximation(RMSEA). The concurrent and cross validity indices proved the validity of 20 items of 4 factors.

Developement and Application of Interactive type WBI on the Unit of 'Moon Motion' in Middle School Science (중학교 과학 '달의 운동' 단원의 상호작용형 WBI 개발 및 적용)

  • This study has developed an interactive WBI to enhance learning effects on 'the Moon motion' for middle-school students. The quality of this examined by applying it to 20 science teachers and 49 middle school students 49. As a result, over 85% of the test subjects gave an affirmative response in the interest induction, the curiosity solving, and the degree of learning participation category, the degree of difficulty item. Response of the students with negative perception on science have changed positively(p<.05) after this WBI learning. In addition, we compared the learners' of knowledge prior and subsequent to 'the Moon motion'. As a result, it was found that the case of 'no concept' was enhanced more than the case having 'partly or ambiguously concept' for 'the Moon motion'.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze characteristics of PCK before class, investigate how these characteristics are enacted in classrooms when beginning and experienced teachers teach mathematical functions, and provide pedagogical implications. Two beginning teachers and two experienced teachers participated in the study. In order to analyze characteristics of PCK before class, interviews and survey research were conducted. An investigation of classroom discourse was used to examine how the PCK characteristics appear in classrooms. Results show that experiences teachers enacted their PCK about learner, curriculum, teaching methods, and teaching environment in classrooms, whereas beginning teachers could not show their PCK. These results suggest practical implications for the developments of teacher education curriculum and teacher training program.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop practical problem-based home economics teaching.learning process plans about a unit 'the youth and consumer life' of middle school eighth-grade Technology and Home Economics by applying blended learning(BL) strategy. According to ADDIE instructional design model, this study was conducted in the following procedure: analysis, design/development, implementation, and evaluation. In the stage of design and development, the selected unit was converted into a practical problem-based unit, and practical problem-based teaching. learning process plans were designed in detail by using BL strategy. An online study room for practical problem-based home economics instruction grounded in BL strategy was prepared by using Edunet(http://community.edunet4u.net/${\sim}$consumer2). Eight-session lesson plans were mapped out, and study aids for students and materials for teachers were prepared. In the implementation stage, the first-session teaching plans that dealt with a minor question 'what preparations should be made to become a wise consumer' were utilized when instruction was provided to 115 eighth graders who were in three different province, and the other one was in a middle school in the city of Daejeon. The experimental teaching was implemented for two weeks in the following procedure: preliminary program, pre-online learning, main instruction and post- online learning. The preliminary program was carried out in a session in the classroom, and pre-online learning was provided before the main instruction was given in a session in the classroom. After the main instruction was completed, post-online learning was offered. In the evaluation stage, a survey was conducted on all the learners and teachers to find out their opinions and suggestions.
