  • This study investigated the effects of dual task training on balance, upper extremity motor function and activities of daily living in patients with chronic stroke. The study subjects were 14 chronic stroke patients. dual task training groups(n=7), and single task training groups(n=7). The intervention period was conducted for 3 times a week, 30 minutes per session, and 4 weeks for all groups. To measure the BT4, JTT, K-MBI were used before and after the intervention. Dual task training groups showed a significant increase in BT 4 and JTT scores(p<.05). The difference between the two groups was significant in the BT4 and JJT scores(p<.05). There was a score improvement in K-MBI, but there was no statistically significant difference(p>.05) Dual task training was effective in facilitating balance, upper extremity function and activities of daily living in patients with chronic stroke.

  • Objective: This study is executed systematic review targeted at international journals intended to investigate on effect of peripheral sensory nerve stimulation on upper extremity function for stroke patients. Method: After literature search, researchers selected for 10 studies registered up to October 2015 based on PubMed database, using the following search terms: peripheral nerve stimulation, electrical stimulation, sensory stimulation, somatosensory stimulation, stroke, hemiplegia, hemiparesis and hand, arm, upper limb. Result: There were significant improves of upper extremity function and positive effect on the cortical activation in the use of peripheral sensory nerve stimulation. Conclusion: domestic studies in future requires a study of the method for measuring more accurately the effect of peripheral sensory nerve stimulation in RCT studies applying various intervention.

  • Objective : To synthesize and identify the studies that delineated the relationship between quality of life and other factors in stroke patients in South Korea. Method : Electronic databases were searched, including KISS, NDSL, National Assembly Library and KmBase. The search terms included stroke, quality of life and correlation, relationship. Only papers published in Korean were included. Results : Twelve studies, from 256 references screened, were included. All studies were non-experimental and correlational analysis. A correlation coefficient between Quality of Life and ADL .293~.622, Depression -.804~-.533, Cognition .090~.610, Quality of Sleep .107, Quality of Satisfaction .367, Fatigue -.260, MAL(Quality of Movement .208, Amount of Use .364), Family Support .824, Pain -.306, Motivation for Rehabilitation .51~.86, Balance .740, Self-efficacy .388 were analyzed respectively. Conclusion : The quality of life of stroke patients was influenced by multiple factors. Occupational therapists need to consider the functions of upper extremity and activities of daily living as well as depression, cognition, sleep, family support, pain, and self efficacy to improve quality of life of stroke patients.

  • The Purpose of this study was to examine, the effects of depression, family Support, and medical suport on rehabilitation motivation among stroke patients. Participants in this cross- sectional, descriptive study were 206 stroke patients who completed a self-report structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, correlation and stepwise multiple regression analyses with IBM SPSS Win 22 Program. Family support, medical support, education and age were strong predictors of rehabilitation motivation in stroke patients. These variables explained 58.3% of the variance in rehabilitation motivation. Depression was not a predictor of rehabilitation motivation. A higher level of rehabilitation motivation was associated with lower levels of depression and higher levels of family support and medical support. These results show that effective strategies for improving family support and medical support. are needed to improving rehabilitation motivation among stroke patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine whether abdominal pressure belt has an immediate effect on pulmonary function, balance and gait ability for stroke patients. Twenty subjects measured pulmonary function and the COP, BBS, TUG, 10m walk test, and FGA prior to belt wearing. Immediately all subjects were post-tested after wearing abdominal pressure belt of elastic components. Except for forced vital capacity (FVC) and forced experimental volume in the 1 second (FEV1), there were significant differences after belt wearing. This study suggests that the application of abdominal pressure belt enhanced balance and gait ability. However, improving pulmonary function requires several efforts, such as changing the pressure level, posture.

  • This study was to investigate whether a trunk correction taping plus scapular setting exercises has an effect on trunk muscle activation and trunk balance and upper extremity function in patients with stroke. Twenty stroke patients were randomly divided into a trunk correction taping with scapular setting exercise group (n=10) and a scapular setting exercise group (n=10), and each group performed given interventions for 30 minutes for 4 weeks. In the experimental group, there were significant increases in muscle activation, K-TIS, and MFT (p<.05), and a significant improvement was detected in K-TIS and MFT compared to the control group (p<.05). This study suggests that a trunk correction taping with scapular setting exercises was more effective on trunk muscle activation, trunk balance, and upper extremity function in stroke patients compared to a scapular setting exercise. It could be clinically more significant if the change in the onset time of muscle activity is confirmed in the further researches.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of video observation training on neglect and ability to perform activities of daily living of stroke patients. Methods : Patients diagnosed with stroke were selected as subjects according to criteria to select the research targets. The additional video observation training besides OT and PT was carried out to 15 patients in an experimental group and sham therapy besides OT and PT was performed to 15 patients in a control group. Line-bisection test were conducted to compare the neglect before and after therapy intervention and FIM was conducted to compare the ability to perform the activities of daily living. Results : The result of this study that we found out that degree of neglect in an experimental group where video observation training was carried out improved neglect and the ability to perform activities of daily living. Conclusion : The video observation training the video observation training is expected to be useful in clinics.

  • The purpose of this study to compare the effect of physical therapy interventions on the improvement of ankle joint range of motion with stroke patients. Total subjects were 45 stroke patients, who were divided into a group using inclined boards(n=15), a group of receiving stretching(n=15), and a group of receiving joint mobilization(n=15). The experiment was performed for 8 weeks. The plantar flexion showed significant differences both groups and by periods. The dorsiflexion showed significant differences between groups and by periods, and the group in changes within groups by periods. This study found that stretching and joint mobilization are effective as an intervention method to increase the range of motion on ankle joint. Future study is expected to investigate other effects of increased ankle range of motion in stroke patients.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of virtual reality game based training on balance and upper limb function in subacute stroke patients. Thirty patients with subacute stroke were randomly assigned to experimental groups(n=15) and control groups(n=15) applying virtual reality game-based training programs. Intervention is applied three times a week for 6 weeks, 30 minutes for 1 time. In the study group, there was a significant improvement in balance ability, upper extremity function, and trunk impairment scale(p<.05), and the difference between the two groups was significant in the BBS, TUG, TIS(p<.05). Based on these results, the virtual reality game based training program is clinically useful exercise program for subacute stroke patients.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how the combined intervention of occupation-based intervention and computerized cognitive rehabilitation treatment affects the psychosocial function, cognitive function, and depression of stroke patients. 23 stroke patients were divided into experimental group(n=11) and a control group(n=12), and the experimental group and the control group received CoTras for 4 weeks and 30 minutes each, and additionally the experimental group received task-based intervention for 30 minutes before the start of CoTras. It was conducted 20 times for a total of 4 weeks. Self-efficacy scale, stress scale, depression scale, neurobehavioral cognitive status examination were used. As a result of the study, the experimental group showed significant improvement in improvement of self-efficacy, stress, and depression than the control group, and the experimental group showed a small effect difference in magnitude of effect from the control group in cognitive function. Based on this study, it is possible to utilize the simultaneous task-based intervention with CoTras to improve psychosocial function, depression and cognitive function in stroke patients.
